The Work 3-2

Just because Ridley and SBB as package deals to UM doesnt seem like the full lock of the century right now doesnt mean we have to worry. Pete still said SBB has us up top and "was wearing Miami shorts" even thought I dont see that as a big deal others do. I still expect both here

What % of "package deals" actually materialize? I'm not saying one way or another with these two but it just seems like a very popular concept early (relatively speaking) in the recruiting process with highly rated friends that often ends up not happening.

That to me is like the idea of a recruit wearing a schools clothing or something its something thats more of a big deal if you look into it a certain way. Some players can never talk about being a package deal but be close friends throughout the process and influence in each to attending the same school. Package deal? Technically no because they never said that was their plan but they impact each others decision making so if you want to say that they became a package deal you can say that. **** Courtel Jenkins was big in bringing in Kiy Hester but nobody will call them a package deal but Jenkins himself basically knew the day Hester left Rutgers he was going to be outs so basically my point is those 2 saying they'll play with each other to me wont be the deal breaker but one will convince the other IF it comes to that not exactly that they have to play along side one another

I watched both Ridleys when they were at Chaminade and Cavin was more explosive than his brother. I have been told by many that if you thought Calvin's grades were bad you must not have seen Cavins.

Have to be pretty bad if he wasn't eligible last year. Long time to fix them though.

These are some of the most godawful names I've ever heard. Binjimen? Seriously mom and dad? Toddy??! smh

Kato Nelson is 178lbs now. He's the best QB in South Florida and he's only a sophomore. All this kid does is win. Kato is undefeated this year as a QB 14-0 during the season and 15-0 during 7 on 7 season.

I like J. Way's (Belle Glade) highlights better than Benji Victor's. Way seems more explosive and turns his feet over "lot" faster. I'm sure the Canes like everybody else will offer Cavin Ridley, to lure Calvin, plus he is said to be just as good. We'll end up with them all, SBB, Cavin and Calvin if money or promise of material things are not the lure elsewhere. My friend whose son is a VERY Highly recruited player, told me that although they don't come out a say it, they, an SEC powerhouse told him and his son that they "would make sure he is very well taken care. We'll provide all the clothing he needs and make sure his college experience will be as comfortable as any student". Said they asked if his son had a car? And went on to say there are students that'll allow him to use their car as often as he likes so he can go places and do the things he likes".

I always wondered how they enticed kids and let it be known what they'll do without actually offering money. They do provide lots of athletic clothing so that's covered. The money, wink wink, is what's allowed by the ncass and using another students car as if its practically your own is like borrowing your buddy's car.

As a coach wouldn't it be smart for golden to jump on this situation and help them both him get their grades together while its early, this is also a good way to form a bond with the athlete.

Goldens done this with kids many times before but its up to the kids themselves to get their **** together

I'm amazed nobody has criticized him yet for not personally tutoring some of these kids. He must be too busy bowling with D'Onofrio and eating Italian food.

Agreed. Not saying it isn't a huge potential benefit but I guess I've just seen too many bff's that say they want to play together and then actually don't. Would be really cool to actually lock these two down somewhat early and have that serve as a magnet for other kids but I guess that's extremely optimistic thinking.

2 elite prospects like thenm are always extremely hard to lock down no matter what. Good thing with Calvin though is with his grades he'll be told to get it done early to focus on it so most likely he wont wait

**This edition of The Work will be centered around the 7-on-7 event that I attended yesterday. Florida Fire, Team Strong Arm, Baller Nation (Palm Beach), and Glades Central were amongst the teams playing and it was stacked with talent. Here are some players who caught my eye.

**2016 Carol City WR Steven Newbold is one of the most exciting prospects I’ve seen in a while. A few people I spoke to at the event compared him to Stacy Coley and I wouldn’t say that is far off. He’s not as tall as Coley yet, but has the same fluidity and smoothness that makes it seem like he is toying with defenders. He also plays with the same nonchalant attitude that many people berated Coley for when he was in high school. Looks like he will grow a couple more inches and is about 5-10 right now. I will have a full story on him this week, but he says that Miami and Nebraska are already in contact with him.

Pete is correct, this kid is someone to keep an eye on. Fyi...Newbold comes from a family of taller people; his Dad and Uncle are legit 6'3.

Also, the nonchalant attitude is nothing more than bravado from a confident athlete. It's similar to an honor student being bored in regular classes; so i hope people don't categorize this kid as bad and/or un-coachable...

Carol City isn't Boca Raton...when you grow up in the hood, you learn not to talk unnecessarily. However, he's a good kid.

That's nice and all, but I'm not expecting any Champagnat kid to end up in Gables, ever.

BOL to this kid.
