The Work 12-18

if we're looking at taking another offensive lineman, then why a project? why not go hard after a better prospect?

You'll get negged for this, but I agree with you. We need to be landing more 4/5 star talent on the lines, and not filling our roster with projects and reaches.

Kool gets a pass because he's proven that he can identify talent like no one else and he's proven than he's a better evaluator of talent than 247, Rivals, or the ESPN people.

But coach Searles is still a question to me. He needs to lock down Reed and then add another jumbo 4/5 star IMO, not mess around with projects.

Frankly our offensive line lacks the talent a Miami o line should have right now

still don't see how we could get surtain by Campbell and Samuel would be amazing and would certainly be our best DB class that I could ever remember (been following recruiting hard since like '03)

But,.. (Playing devils advocate).. If he does develop,..he very possibly becomes a 5yr player,..nice to have that kind of stability, as opposed to some of the 4 n 5 star talents that are 3 n gone!!

Goss looks to be from Lowndes County. That's South Georgia. I think there would have to be extenuating circumstances for a kid from South Georgia to pick UM over a SEC school like Auburn. Maybe Richt is that circumstance. LOL

Deejay, Zalontae, and Chris say hi...

Goss isn’t your normal “project”. He would be a highly rated 4* if he wasn’t 265...his issue is his weight and if he was 290-300 pounds coming in, he would be a day 1 starter.

OL is tough because historically the area isn’t the greatest for the positions. Then the one year I‎t was the guys just didn’t live up to the hype.

I agree with you in general but consistently being a top program is the only way we will lure top OL from around the country. I think the recruiting has been pretty decent but I‎t just takes so **** long to really find out about these guys.

That's a big "if." At 265 he probably lacks the strength to play the position and he might get pushed around.

Not saying he can't develop, but it's a risk at a position we're already thin at.

Good point. But it seems like under Richt, we've been recruiting the rest of Florida much better than we had been in the past. Jacksonville, central florida, etc. It also seems as if we're pulling 1 or 2 studs out of Georgia every year.

If we can land the best OL in South Florida, one 4/5 star from central/northern Florida, and one from OOS, then we'll be OK. Maybe get a pipeline going with IMG and grab an OL from there every year. Just need to get on the guys early and recruit your butt off.

No he doesn’t. He plays good competition in GA and his highlights are filled with pancakes. Me and gogeta4 have both talked about this guy in the thread about him. He just lacks weight...his strength isn’t the issue and he’ll obviously gain strength as he gains weight. There’s a reason Michigan and Auburn have been on this kid for months before we did.

The kids talented but we need help at OT now not 2-3 years down the line. We took Zalonte Hillary last year who was very similar athletically and weight wise. We can't do that every year. Great plan B option but if we still have a chance with Barnes that's where our focus should be. Richt wants a power run game and it's not going to happen recruiting 260-270 OT's every cycle.

We should literally bring in a Hillery / Goss type every single year.

If you need help on the OLine immediately, you don't do it by bringing in true freshmen...you rely on the development of the guys in front of them. If our oline is going to improve in a meaningful way next year, it is going to be because Herbert, Gaynor and Donaldson got better, someone like Hillery or Dykstra takes a step forward, Gauthier and St. Louis play like men all the time and maybe an EE like Scaife is able to chip in when called upon.

Arguing that we shouldn't take Goss because he isn't ready as an 18 year old is cutting off your nose to spite your face..

1) Richt doesn’t want a power run game. He trying to combine Bowden’s offense from the 90’s with Miami’s championship defense.

2) The kid could come in around 280 in June no problem. He can absolutely log minutes and play at 280-285 in his freshman year and continue to put on weight. You guys are seeing 265 and saying he can’t play right away without even realizing that’s weight from the camp scene.
