The Switch from Zone to Man

Agreed. Last night we were without 2 DE that will go 1st and 2nd round. If we play more man like we did last night throughout the season with those guys on the edge I think our defensive numbers are better. Of course I could be dead wrong but id like to see us play more aggressive in the secondary. Its what these kids know in SOFL its in the DNA of the Region. Im not saying never play zone but let the kids do what they have their entire lives is all.
OSU’s QB and Offense isn’t that good. Phillips and Roche play and they still put 30+ on us, easily. The scheme is the issue rather than Miami’s talent.

We definitely played better in man.
At least throws were contested, unlike our zone.

It's not really a zone versus man thing though. It's THE WAY WE PLAY ZONE that makes it so bad. We don't play a "match" zone, we just drop to a spot and wait for the ball to be thrown.

100%. Our back 7 looks like pylons spot dropping in their zones. 11 personnel and a slot WR in motion exposes us often and badly, as do simple slant routes when we play in that defense. At least in man coverage there is usually a defender within 3 yards of the ball to make some attempt at contesting the catch. Did our guys get beat in man coverage last night? Sure, sometimes they did (everyone does). But at least they were in the play and won a couple of those (maybe more if the refs weren't trying to paint the field yellow).

Some pattern match zone would be nice a philosophical change, but I don't think it jives with the blitzkrieg "havoc" defense Manny/Baker are married to.

2 TDs and a FG in 6 2H possessions (excluding the kneel down drive) is not good.

That also doesn't consider that we essentially tied the game and just like nearly every game the last 15 years the defense then proceeded to give up a 90 yd TD drive (after being 1st & 20 at the 10 yd line). The defense then gave up another 80 yd drive that made the trek back too hard to climb.
250 yards in the first quarter. 400 in the whole game. Short field for on of those 2nd half TD's because of fumble. They played much better. Scoring always is the biggest metric and you are right, we have up 17 2nd half points.

Our pass rush and dl is meh. The dt’s never push the pocket, Very meh. We miss Willis , Norton and McIntosh badly. We have jno game changers inside.
Indeed and what we saw last night on the DL is what's coming back next season for the most part. Hopefully Roberts, Chantz Williams and Leonard
Taylor provide some instant talent lift or it's going to be a long 21 season...

We'll agree to disagree on this one.

The defense was less atrocious in the 2H but they still gave up scores on 50% of the possessions. You're putting lipstick on a pig b/c they had 2 three and outs making it seem like they actually weren't trash.

The uncatchable one was bad, but there was pass interference on the other two. Both are open to interpretation though and can go either way.

Worst call of the entire game was X’s block in the back on the kicker. That was such a load of steaming horse**** I probably would've shot the ref had I been there.

FIFY

Wow you really are tone deaf. I conceded your overall point and you can not see that we gave up 250 of the 400 yards in the 1st quarter, less than 130 yards in the 2nd half. Wow, glad you dont do analytical work for me.

LOL. If you call your bull**** backhanded "you're right they scored 17 in the 2H" a mea culpa after three sentences of how "analytically" they were better in the 2H, then my bad. The defense was TERRIBLE the 1H and slightly less TERRIBLE the 2H.

You are wrong. Sorry. Bye

You wouldn't shoot anyone. Stop lying...

Maybe Rumph isn't teaching it because Manny doesn't want it.....
Idk for sure but thats the only thing that makes sense to me.
That's something that would help a guy like ivey who doesn't have speed. At least let him get hands on a guy like dyami brown

so we agree then....

exactly he doesn’t have the hips to mirror him so why make him?! Let him be big and physical get his hands on him

It'd also help rushers get to the qb by slowing the recievers up. They might as well play with hands behind their back

I just always prefer man-to-man because it relies mostly on the players physical ability. Zone can cause too much thinking and confusion. But then again, there's a reason why I'm not a coach lol.
