The Switch from Zone to Man

Go zone get beat short. Go man get beat deep. Zone blitz get beat both short and deep. Can’t win for losing

The uncatchable one was bad, but there was pass interference on the other two. Both are open to interpretation though and can go either way.

Worst call of the entire game was Braxton's block in the back on the kicker. That was such a load of steaming horse**** I probably would've shot the ref had I been there.
We got interfered with twice with no call also

Maybe we did crib. But atleast the Qb had to be more accurate with his throws tighter windows
When we brought constant pressure blitzing we were a lot better. Our dt’s are mediocre , de’s were backups so blitzing was the inky way to generate pressure.

Not true at all. But okay
Soft zone gets beaten all kinds of ways
Man same way but in man you can have help over the top to not get beat deep. You act like we would be doing zero blitzes in man every time.

We definitely played better in man.
At least throws were contested, unlike our zone.

It's not really a zone versus man thing though. It's THE WAY WE PLAY ZONE that makes it so bad. We don't play a "match" zone, we just drop to a spot and wait for the ball to be thrown.

It makes me want to throw up. Yardage in chunks for whomever when we play "our" base defense.

If by flourished you mean gave up 2TDs and a FG and nullified a turnover in the OKST redzone on one of 5000 PI calls .... then yes you are on point.
They had 206 yards and three touchdowns in the first quarter when we played soft zone. They had 16 pts and 212 yds the last three quarters when we played man. It was a big improvement. That pi on couch for the int was horrible call and one other pi was not.
That soft zone makes every QB we face look like Mahomes.

And our man or press coverage is still lacking a jam. Free release is a free feast.
Don't understand why we don't use bump n run with ivey and blades. Rumph lived of that when he played

2 half we pretty much play man across the board and flourished. Why Baker Insist on playing this passive *** zone is beyond me. You have miami athletes use them. Zone should be used to keep teams off balance a switch hitter.
Its Manny's Garbage *** Defense....not Bakers...
You know...the Defense that got his No coaching *** fired from Texas.....

Part of my point. Imagine if we played like this on defense all year with our starting DE's. Why we pay passive on the back end with such a disruptive front is counter intuitive. You throw a receivers timing off and get hands on him with a front that doesn't allow much time to throw, you get positive results. I seen Ivey and Couch actually getting hands on their wideouts.

Maybe Rumph isn't teaching it because Manny doesn't want it.....
Idk for sure but thats the only thing that makes sense to me.

My guess is it’s probably not his call. It’s someone else’s defense and they’re probably dictating how it’s played.

Couch got called for a bunch of DPIs but the one that led to a pick was not one at all.
**** if these are SEC refs, you'd think they would allow them to play a little. I watched SEC football and what Couch got called for was pillow fighting compared to **** I've seen from Marco, Surtain, Campbell and others

Our defense played much better 2nd half. They got a short field for one TD, but 16 points, and under 200 yards was a solid performance. The first quarter and a half was awful in zone.

Reminded me of ACC title game where we started in Zone, got down 21-0, then went man and forced like 4-5 straight punts.

1st four drives for Oklahoma State:

35 plays for 265 yards-7.57 yards per play 21 points

last eight drives:

46 plays for 189 yards-4-11 yards per play
16 points
