The problem with coaching

You continue to compare the UM roster from 2021 with the results of the 2022 team. The 2022 UM roster would likely have looked way worse than it did. Would Manny have landed Mesidor? Who would Manny have hired to replace Lashlee as OC? One has to be able to qualify the value of different data points to come up with a qualified opinion.

Oh and to add more fuel to the fire, I fully expect Manny to win the Broyles award for top coordinator this season. :11263365343-2b1651dd24-o:

Maybe he lands Mesidor, we don't know. He landed some solid portal guys, even some on our DL.

OC, not a clue. He would've been hard pressed to find one worse than Mario did.

Lots of people want to label this team as a bunch of quitters, losers, or JAG's. Why it happened last year and not before with Manny, I don't know. He had them playing and scrapping most of the season. They believed in whatever he was preaching.

Mario and company took a lot of those very same players and got far worse results. Yes, the roster changed up some and it isn't an exact comparison, but it still begs the question why.

Would it have looked worse? Doubtful, this year was historically bad even with the additions Mario brought in.

Since its all hypothetical, my guess is that Manny would have ended up with Gattis as his OC. lol

Makes sense though.

How do you explain Manny, with much less talent and not as accomplished assistants and resources.. getting way more out of his players?

Manny’s teams didn’t look like this.. they were bad.. but his teams fought hard for him..

There is absolutely no excuse for the L’s we took to some of the teams we did this season. And that falls squarely on Mario.
This is the worst I have ever seen Miami in 35 years.

Why are we comparing Manny last year to Mario in the short term? If Manny stays we finish with a recruiting class in the 60’s making the rebuild harder for the next guy. In the short term we likely are better this year with manny but the core is still rotten. The same issues are still there it’s just a year worse.
Manny without Lashlee this season might have been worse than the season we just had.

So, Mario was was a by their standards a successful coach at FIU , was hired by Saban who called him one of his best recruiters, goes to Oregon where he goes 35-13 including 2 1st place finish's, Kevin Steele a long time successful defensive coordinator, Josh Gattis the broyles award winner, Alex Mirabel one of the most successful offensive line coaches all forget how to coach. Its the talent 5 years of horrific recruiting and star watching instead of actual player evaluation brought us to this point. Look at the transfers so far, Most 4 star who never sniffed the field. Yea its all Marios fault.
Trim the fat, coaches, players, analysts, etc. Build it back better.

SMU head coach is the reason he won. That’s it

Mario + Gattis > Manny minus Lashlee

Agree offense couldn’t have been much worse than this year, but I’ll take Mario’s proven head coaching experience, elite recruiting and the financial buy-in (both internal + external) his hire has created over a future tied to Manny.

16y culture of .500 ball isn’t getting fixed in a single off-season regardless of who was hired

Facts. I can give Manny a modicum of props for the Lashlee hire but that's it. He's a big reason the culture is so trash here. Players will easily play harder for their little beta buddy who let's them run amuck with 0 accountability. How people don't see this is odd.
It's tough going from that to a more in your face coach. Richt and Manny were both players coaches, haven't had a coach like Mario since Butch. Combine that with a team that's been recruited for more spread plays and trying to play smash mouth football you get the garbage we see on Saturday's.

Way more?

We went 7 - 5 last season with a healthier roster and better WRs; if it wasn't for Tyler catching absolute fire it would have been a lot worse.

In the world of college football, 5-7, 6-6, and 7-5 all sleep in the same bed.

The years of trying to patch up the roster with transfers that made up for the horrendous recruiting caught up to the University of Miami. There was no next-man-up in many key spots where we lost a lot of production and what little we did get on both sides of the ball was still mostly transfers.

Leading rusher, a transfer. 48% of our rushing total came from transfers.
WR1, a 2-star JUCO transfer. WR3, a transfer. 30% of our receiving total came from transfers.
A transfer led the team in sacks and TFL (many consider him the best player on the team)
Transfers had 46% of our sacks. 30% of our team tackles.
A transfer led our team in passes defended.
We had 4 transfers or former transfers playing on the offensive line.

Couple the injury to the starting QB.

People might want to write some fan fiction that says we would be a better team under X, Y, and Z circumstance, but thats just nonsense to help people cope and try and lay blame on a bad season.

Heads will roll...justifiably. But this was team was never going to be good...unfortunately, thats a hindsight take for most.
100% correct... You can only stockpile bags of crap for so long before you realize your house is full of crap....

Manny without Lashlee this season might have been worse than the season we just had.

Highly doubt it. Defense - possibly or more likely the same. Offense - he would've known what works. Highly doubt that he would've hired someone that deviated from the Lashlee offense, especially when he had Enos as his first OC. Would the offense have replicated last year's efficiency - maybe, maybe not - but it wouldn't have been this bad.

Check what the did during that offseason in terms of hires and responsibilities.

Right, and the result is that a playoff team is a playoff team and the team that scored 42 now scored 45. Where is the huge leap in results?

Manny would have sucked this year without Lashlee too. C'mon man... at least Mario is an elite recruiter.
Lets revisit after Manny after Mario's 3rd year. I was on the Lane train, but put my support behind Mario. He sucked year 1, no two ways about it. Some was out of his control, some was not. He's got a ton to prove... have to win more than the offseason.
