hen Denzel Perryman steps on the football field, he doesn't hold much back.

He plays with fire and emotion, rallying teammates when things get tough and celebrating their successes as much as he enjoys his own. The bone-crushing hits he often lays on opponents elicit equal parts cheers and groans from those who know just how powerful those blows can be.

But when he walks into the locker room Saturday evening after having played his final game as a Hurricane when Miami takes on South Carolina in the Duck Commander Independence Bowl, Perryman hopes that for once, he's able to keep his emotions in check.

"When I walk on the field and play that first play of the series, it'll probably hit me. Or in the fourth quarter when the clock says 0:00 and coach [Al] Golden asks in the locker room if the seniors have anything to say," Perryman says of the realization his Miami career is almost over. "It'll probably hit me then. Hopefully I don't cry."

It'd be hard to fault the 6-foot, 242-pound linebacker if he does get caught up in the moment a little bit.

I still can't believe how a team with players like Perryman, Duke, Walford and Kaaya ended up 6-6. You have to really ***** up something or not have a clue to fail that badly. These guys deserved to go to a huge bowl game. Instead we're in the swamp or something in a dump of a stadium. I hope Perryman gets out without any injuries and has a huge NFL career.

Helluva lot better career than the middle earth character that goes by the same nickname.

I agree with everything you said except listing Kaaya as a game changer. Hopefully soon, but he's not at those other guys level yet.

Can't blame this kid one bit for leaving....best thing he can do is get as far away from this staff as possible...and as quickly as possible.

Guys like this are the reason I want to smack dumb ***** up side the head when they attempt to cite that Golden and his merry band of bafoons didn't have enough talent to beat the Louisville, Pitt, Virginia, and Georgia Tech's of the world.

Go get paid homeboy. There's nothing for you here unless that fat piece of **** gets fired and we get a competent coaching staff in here.

Who are you talking about? DP is a senior. He doesn't have a choice.

Maybe he was thinking Duke?

Yeah for some reason I thought both Duke and Perryman were both Juniors.

Either way...as many of these kids that can go and get relatively decent pay days should go....this staff is a lost case and will simply stunt their growth and not give them an opportunity to come back for anything meaningful (wins).

Would love to see him lose about 5-8 pounds and get drafted by the Dolphins.
