The Only Lesson Mario Needs to Learn from This Season

Not at all trying to defend Mario here as he ****ed me off plenty throughout the season, but the simple fact remains that we beat ND head to head and that the CFP committee is corrupt as ****, THAT is why we are on the outside looking in.........
I agree with the premise that the committee is corrupt. But the phrase "leave no doubt" needs to be repeated to Mario so much that he says that **** as much as he says "get back to work"

How different is the CFP conversation if we won that game by 21 instead of 3? Or would it still not matter?
i've wondered this too. maybe this is coping, but i feel like they believe this is a new and improved ND team and the on field result of game didn't matter, regardless of how much we won by. they haven't even referenced it at all, nevermind saying it was a close win, and just say how good ND has looked over the last 10 weeks

There were 3 glaring issues this year.

1. Penalties. Whatever he did the week leading to Pitt game needs to be emphasized going forward. We finally looked like a disciplined team. We beat SMU handily without penalties.

2. Taking the foot off the gas. He learned that lesson and fixed it. Should not be a problem going forward.

3. Bye week woes. Use that week to throw some wrinkles in the first couple drives just like Brohm did. Get up quickly. Likewise, be ready for trick plays for opponents coming off bye week. How we weren’t ready for the fake field goal against Lville is beyond me.

Beat the living **** out of everyone for 4Qs. Brutalize them. No more going conservative and just trying to hold on in the second half and at the end of games
Knowing who his college coaches were, I wouldn't think this would be an issue. This is my only gripe with him. The nd game shouldn't have been close, but that set off the tone for the rest of the year

Yeah. College football is a beauty pageant, you gain more from beating a team by 40 points than by 1 point. It's different from pro football in that way.

We were up 21-7 v ND in the third. Should have kept being aggressive, if we blow ND out we're prob ahead of them right now.

oh it's that easy huh?

some of you seem to forget the inconvenient truth that Notre Dame WAS IN THE FREAKING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME the game before they played Miami.

now all the dummies are acting as if it's just so easy to beat down a team that is ranked #9 in the country right now.

the last THREE YEARS Notre Dame is 33-7 with the worst loss a 13 point loss at Louisville. they have some of the best recruiting classes the last several years and one of the best coaching staffs.

but sure, we should have beaten them IN THE RAIN IN BECK'S FIRST START AND TONEY'S FIRST EVER COLLEGE GAME BY 21!

some of you dummies live in a fantasy world.

Lesson should be that if Miami had scheduled Duke in the opener, we would be in the ACC championship today. Take care of the ACC early in the season, then play cupcakes or novelty games in the back half of the season.

Spend all your time gameplanning your conference.

Forget about the nonconference schedule. We will win all of them (except one) easily anyway. Narduzzi was right.

That isn’t a flippant comment. That really should be the #1 lesson all teams outside the P2 learn if ND gets in over Miami. Even a marquee P2 school like Texas got f#cked over by trying to schedule tough OOC games. SCHEDULING wins championships.

I hope Rad wakes up from his nap and publicly announces that based on how the committee is choosing playoff teams, he is looking at changing Miamis schedule to more closely mirror Notre Dame’s and fill the back half with lower division schools to increase the chances of going on a winning streak, since that is obviously what the committee values more than H2H wins over other playoff contenders.

He also should recommend all other ADs do the same and say that ESPN should personally thank Hunter Yurachek for devaluing premier games against potential playoff contenders and encouraging teams to focus on creating the schedule most favorable for going on a 10 game win streak to end the season. That’s what Notre Dame’s coach argues is the reason his team should get in over a Miami team that has the same record and beat Notre Dame head to head, and Yurachek seems to agree.

I know people want to focus on running up the score, creativity , not letting off the gas pedal, etc but those are mostly insignificant if the goal is winning the ACC and getting to the playoffs. Did Diaz do any of those things? Nope. He just beat the right combination of ACC teams and I think is going to win the ACC title (I honestly believe Duke will beat UVA). Sure at 8-5 he’s not getting into the playoffs this year even as ACC champ, but most years a 9-4 ACC champ (3 OOC losses 1 conference loss) is still going to get one of the conference champ spots in the playoffs.

I'm dead serious. There's not a hint of sarcasm in what I say.

It was more us playing like **** for at least 25% of games this year than calling off the dogs

You guys are insinuating we were some juggernaut for 3 quarters

We weren’t

Whole first half of the season was plagued by stupid OL penalties. There’s some drives here and there we coulda been more aggressive sure but the bigger problem is we just didn’t play consistent football on offense

Plenty of huge lulls scoring points happened before the 4th quarter

Losing to two double digit underdog ACC teams just solidifies that point
