The Ole Miss Thread

The obvious strategy on offense would be for us to pound the rock, slow the game down, and turn this into a good ole’ fashioned slug fest which would also serve the dual purpose of keeping Ole Miss’ offense off the field. On the other side of the ball, you gotta believe that the Rebels are going to wanna run tempo. Honestly, if you’re going against our D you HAVE to do that to hope for any sort of success…especially if Bain/Mesidor are taking a breather. The thing about Chambliss compared to Reed is that Chambliss is a much better passer so we need to be cognizant of that.
Use up the clock and keep Chambliss off the field is how we play this…

The type of offense ANY DC would HATE.. first play the line of scrimmage is dam near the 30 yard line and he runs back to the goal line and turns plays to back yard football.. Then they will tempo after, which gasses out a defense..

This type of stuff needs to be coached to bring him down. If you're alone and he's doing that you need to keep him in front of you. If you're with other defenders you need to be aware of that and box him in. It can't be a free for all going after the QB. I know the play looks like chaos but you have to defend it with purpose.

These types of QBs hurt you most when they get away, not when they're actively avoiding the rush. I would also make sure these guys are coached to force him to the sidelines and not back to the middle of the field. It doesn't have to be chaos.

On that play, if #6 stays outside of him and keeps forcing him to the sidelines he probably has no options and throws it away. But he took a terrible angle to bring him down. You have to coach it.

That play is an absolute drive killer for the offense if he goes down there. We learned that with Cam last year. Don't see it as a problem and use it as an opportunity. They're only going to get so many drives in this game. If he wants to run 30 yards back then be patient and make them pay. That's how you blowout a team like Ole Miss.

I agree but easier said than done, there was no reason the corner was supposed to let him get outside of him with the two other guys there but it happens every game..

Im the biggest worrier and anxiety fan there is when we play teams like this

Historically when we have a Miami defense we withstand the pace and the speed and physical play usually gets it done

Louisville had the 2 opening drives, then we adjusted
SMU only got 20 and one TD was a short field
We did shut AM down

Sure, this Chambliss QB can play and im sure he will get some chunk plays, scramble and do stuff that will annoy us as hero ball is not real football or something a team can rely on every game

Our DBs have to stay with their man and when he scrambles the DL have to stay in lanes ( not do what Moten did against ND) and the LBs can meet Chambliss when he runs

If our DBs dont allow the big broken play, we should be ok

We got this man. They won’t be able to run the ball and we can spy him like all the others. The offense just needs to do its thing which agains that bad defense they will

This is the real #1 offense in the country tho (#2 ranked but North Texas is cmon)..

They have real juice and do everything DC hates dealing with Tempo, real dual threat QB, Balanced offense can run and pass with different schemes with ease, misdirection, motion, bootlegs, quick game, go for it on 4th down alot, balanced passing numbers, 5 /6 receiving options, play off script, etc..

A real problem, this isnt UL, SMU.. they have top offense in country and real weapons with Chambliss, Lacy, Stribling, Wallace and co. This is a REAL test..
