But...yeah...."blame Shalala". She had NOTHING TO DO with any of that corrupt ****, but somehow she is getting blamed for it...

If Shalala wasn't in on some corrupt **** it certainly wasnt from lack of effort on her part. lol

Lets not go White-Knighting for the dirtiest of the dirty.

Nobody is white-knighting.

But David Samson didn't buy off Shalala, he bought off the Miami mayor and commission. That's an actual thing that Samson has acknowledged.

So let's blame those who deserve blame, instead of playing this silly political game of "blame everyone".

Note - Im speaking as SFbay the poster, not as a Moderator here:

Let be clear here, fella. As long as Im on this website, ANYTHING positive spoken about donna ****lala will be met with truth about her scumbagedness. If Donna wasnt in on the stadium deal its likely because she was too busy trying to defraud the Medicare system or some other bigger fish that she was trying to fry at that time.

In my eyes: not ****ting on donna at every turn = white knighting. :cigar:

GTFOOH with that barely-disguised political nonsense. You've made it clear that you can't have a fact-based discussion of what actually happened with the Orange Bowl, so feel free to spout your opinions on The Town Hall.

Ah, the good old days before Miami politicians sold it out for 30 pieces of silver and gave us, in its place, The Curse of the Orange Bowl.

Being owned by the city presented it’s own unique challenges. Even back in the 60’s and 70’s when my father was the OB Stadium Manger, he had constant budgetary battles with the city. Maintenance of the OB was the main reason Robbie gave the 🖕to the city and built his own stadium.

Obviously, when the Phins left, it left a gaping hole in revenue and probably had a lot to do with the OB’s demise.
FACTS!

She was the PRESIDENT of the University of Miami. She was supposed to be a leader and she was supposed to further UM’s interests.

Even if everything you are saying is true, it doesn’t get her off the hook. The bottom line is that the OB was torn down during her tenure and she moved us to Dolphins stadium.

As a leader, if all this corruption was going on, she should have stood up to it on Miami’s behalf. Where was the publicity campaign exposing all of this from Donna? Where were her media interviews exposing people like Samson, furthering Miami’s interests? Where were the lawsuits?

Bottom line is that the castle crumbled under HER watch, and there is no evidence that she ever lifted a finger to stop it. You can argue that it was her incompetence as a leader, or that it simply wasn’t important to her…but either way it was her failure
The crumble started when the Dolphins left. Missing that NFL revenue hurt. So in between that, and corrupt politicians making backdoor deals... there honestly wasn't much she could have done to stop the OB from caving in. She had support from the community. The citizens of Miami voted for the renovations. I really don't know what else she could have done LEGALLY to save the OB. The other side wanted that land, and was gonna stop at nothing to make that deal fall through. They hopped in bed with MLB and land developers.... and they wanted that land for a MLB stadium. She saw the writing on the wall, so to speak. Could she have spoken out about it, publicly? Probably.... Yea. But she knew the die had been cast.

IIRC, and I may not be, the city actually proposed and presented some plans to renovate the OB. Totally slack effort and clearly wasn’t done in good faith, but they wanted to be able to say they tried.

As noted earlier, they even had the company selected. But the shady muhfuccas hiding just beyond the limits of the light, knew exactly what the wanted, and what they wanted was for the deal to fall through, so they could get that land for baseball purposes. They w anted to shiny new baseball stadiun right in the heart of Little Havana. They were blinded by the thought of all those BILLIONS of dollars that would come flooding in from MLB and packed stadiums, It hasn't gone exactly as planned, has it?

The City of Miami actually signed a deal with Hammes (the company that renovated Lambeau) in order to start the work on the Orange Bowl.

And then when the City breached that contract, they paid $1 million in taxpayer money to get out of the deal.

So the city commissioners and the mayor took money from the Marlins, and then spent taxpayer money to pay off Hammes.

We got people taking up for shalala now? HOT **** I LOVE THE OFF SEASON!!!!!
Nah. It’s fucc Shalala …forever and always for what she let happen to our beloved football program during her tenure. She made some moves that led to the fall of our Canes. But being fair, I just can’t give her most of the blame with the stadium deal.

Exactly.

Because you are an honest poster who doesn't make things "all-or-nothing", you don't stir the pot, you don't derail threads, and you are capable of being a logical and fair person when evaluating facts and history.

Yeah, as the president of the University of Miami there was absolutely nothing she could do because that's a very powerless position. And in no way is it her job to fight for the best interests of the school's national champion football team, because, you know, "she knew the die had been cast" so that makes it totally fine not to lift a finger. (sarcasm)

You donna shills are too much, really. She's a nice lady, I get it. I met her. She IS a nice lady. But that doesn't mean she was good at her job. If you had to put a face to the last 20 years of Miami mediocrity, it would be this:
