The Ohio State Thread

Wonder if we are going to blitz tf out of them, although Saying gets the ball out quickly. Worried about what UL did vs us earlier in the season if so.
Remember, we adjusted to that in the 2nd quarter.
Their next 5 drives after the 2nd TD we held them to 119 yards on 35 plays.
It was Brown who gashed us with the run before Bell did his thing on the 4th qtr TD.

Mentioned it at the time but the Louisville and FSU games were eerily similar starts with very different results

We held FSU to the field goal early on. Ville did the fake and then we messed up big on offense. It was 14-0 instead of 3-0.

After that the defense was pretty dominant in both games. The Bell thing was just an insanely gifted player doing something big which could happen with Smith and Tate as well

Some stats:

2nd qtr opposing team scoring:
1. Miami 2.0 pts
2. OSU 2.7 pts
3. Texas Tech 3.0 pts

2nd/3rd qtr opposing team scoring:
1. Miami 4.5 pts
2. Texas Tech 4.8 pts
3. OSU 5.4 pts

1st/2nd/3rd qtr opposing team scoring:
1. OSU 6.5 pts
2. Texas Tech 6.5 pts
3. Miami 7.0 pts

Our eyes and stats show if we can settle in and limit damage on D in the first quarter, we're good to go thru 3.
I'd like to think our 4th qtr stats (6.3/58th) are skewed a bit, but TBH, maybe we get a little gassed given our constant pressure for 3 quarters.
ND, FSU, UL, SMU, VT and even A&M 4th quarter D has shown some 'give'.

Our defense has to dig deep in this one.
4 quarters man.

Not disagreeing with anything you posted but yeah our defense has been lights out for about 10 quarters

Not sure I’ve seen a better run from a defense in the last 20 plus years here

The confidence and the physicality is off the charts

The college game is so skewed towards offense now it’s gonna happen but what we did to A&M is astonishing

People are like well Reed missed passes

Yeah no **** that’s what he’s done all year. That’s who he is. If he was an accurate passer he woulda won the Heisman and they’d be the championship favorite

He didn’t play an uncharacteristic game in that regard against us

/apologies for the tangent rant

All good.

Our run D actually gets better as the game goes on:
1st- 3.33 ypc
2nd- 2.98 ypc
3rd- 2.94 ypc
4th- 2.17 ypc

2.17 per in the 4th is absolutely nuts.
Best among the remaining teams. Over a half-yard per better than Texas Tech (2.71).

Announcers for the game:

- Dave Pasch & Dusty Dvorecek + Quint Kessenich on the sideline.

Haven’t seen anything yet for the officiating crews

Personally I don’t mind Dave & Dusty, at least I’m not having to listen to Joe and Jesse
Or how about Gus Johnson with his buckeye underwear’s on

We just can’t afford to have Beck taking his first snap down a TD. I think that only happened once this year — against Louisville.

I’m hoping they’re the ones getting hot at the right time

I’m still almost in disbelief how physical and just outright ******* vicious we were while also playing within the rules (despite what A&M cries about)

Saban has constantly mentioned how we would be dangerous because playoff football is just different

They certainly seemed to be up for the challenge and they might very well carry us the whole way

I just watched the film on the buckeyes vs Indiana and Washington.

First let me say this: their schedule was full of cupcakes. It was tough to find games to watch cause they played no one and blew out lesser competition. (I didn’t wanna watch Texas again cause it was game 1)

I chose Washington because they were a 9.5 pt favorite in a tough road environment and wash is a decent team.

Wash was only down 14-6 at the end of 3Q. Demond Williams was picking them apart.

Indiana was more physical on both lines. Wash kinda wore down as the game went on. We are much closer (& imo better) to Indiana than Wash.

This team can be got.

Curry the DE looks like a handful, but our tackles are playing well. Maybe the biggest matchup of the game will be their DT vs Brockenmeyer. The kid won b1g DLman of the year and lines up over the center every play.

To me, it’s all about stopping 4 and explosives. Easier said than done, cause the kid is a beast. But I don’t think they can run on us. And I don’t think they can block our pass rush.

As an aside, I almost watched Illinois because that was one of the better teams on their schedule and it was 34-16, one of the closer final scores. I checked the box score. Buckeyes were outgained 295-272. Looks like 3 turnovers did Illinois in.

Take this with a grain of salt cause I only watched 2 games and did some box score work. But this team is overrated.

I will say that, as far as watching film to prepare, Washington probably isn’t the best choice because they had to run stuff that is so different than what they will run against us.

Demond Williams legs were the focal point of the defense. There was always a spy and the pass rush was designed to not let Williams break contain. Obviously Beck doesn’t pose that challenge.

I think their game plan will be to get the ball out really fast and max protect. To try and negate their offensive line disadvantage. The Louisville game plan is the only thing to look at as a roadmap to beat Miami. Which everything just went wrong during that game so I don’t think that’s a game plan for beating Miami by itself. Let’s be honest, we played our F game and still almost won. We just can’t get in a hole and Beck can’t turn the ball over.

This game is personal. OSU might be up there as my least favorite team in college football. My entire mom’s side of the family are die hard OSU fans, so I’ve been watching games almost my whole life. I went to college in this state and even had to live here post grad. They seriously are probably the most obnoxious fanbase out there. A lot of you on here have seen the national championship teams, the heisman winners, etc. This years Miami team is probably best I’ve been able to witness, and a win against OSU would be the cherry on top.
