The Ohio State Thread

Interesting discussion on reddit by Ohio State fans about Ryan Day being the one to call the plays against us since Hartline is busy with his new job at USF.

I hope Fletcher blows up but OSU a totally different animal. I think Pringle can cause more damage with his speed.
OSU tackles really well

Love Pringle but the next tackle he breaks will be his first

He's right. If people think that Carson and the O will have the same production on the 31st, but somehow, the *'s will do far better against the best D they've faced in 2 seasons (seriously, what D have they faced that's better than ours right now?), they're in for a rude awakening.

I see this game as a battle of equals and the one that has the edge emotionally and mentally (I think it's us right now) will probably prevail. Also, they won't have played a game in a month and don't think that's nothing. Us playing a hard fought, physical game is absolutely to our advantage going into the Cotton Bowl!
Just a little worried about Dawson but I get the wind and everything just upset it took so long to run the ball but you are right far as who they have played and I think they think because we are in the acc that we can’t compete if we keep it close going into the 4 I think j we can’t steal this thing.

What are the odds the offense is that reserved again? They played to the conditions. Beck was a game manager…that’s what we needed. I LOVE that we won an actual “SEC” slugfest. Now, in a dome, where Beck will be very comfortable, the offense will be what we need. I am EXCITE. You can just feel it…have faith.
Wind hurt the passing game not worried about it

Day will have stuff drawn up and they are going to challenge us down the field early and often. They’re going to do everything they can to avoid having this game turn into slugfest since they know it’s a losing proposition against us.

Expect their game plan to look much different than it did against IU. Dawson has no choice but to trust Beck and take shots. The scared, horizontal passing game won’t cut it.

That’s why you don’t pound him up the middle. OSU’s DL and LB’s won’t let you do what Fletcher did to A&M.
Could be right

Unlike the A&M game I’d still make OSU prove it first. Don’t know what the **** Dawson was thinking

Use Toney as a decoy and see if we can get it done off tackle until the stop it. Pistol also looked effective

Wouldnt be so sure. If we block duo like we did against A&M we will be able to run the ball against anyone.
OSU is too big at DL and LB. Speed would kill them more. Dawson needs to identify what works and stick to it. I’m not holding my breath.

Ill never forget the heartbreak from that BS flag on the last play of that game. I used to work for the original Kendall sports grill on sunset back at that time and all of my coworkers and everybody was just devastated. My hate for them was amplified x 1,000; when my last job which i was fired from had a bunch of lying snake in the grass OSU fans working there. The ringleader was my supervisor. Anything less than a curb stomping of these ******* wont be enough.

He is right, they are jumbo inside and the numbers bear it, AM, wasnt that good against the run against multiple teams and on paper, their defenders would play a lil undisciplined and miss gaps..

OSU is one of best run defenses in nation and have a great front 7.. I dont want us to get drunk on duo again like early in season, their weakness if they have one is their corners, Beck got to earn his ******* money at some point, we need to be balanced but open up the run with pass..

cant compare am run defense with osu, thats literally foolish

This is the type of matchups though that make the playoffs great

I agree they’re elite on defense but if we bullied them I also wouldn’t be too shocked

Wouldn’t be shocked if they bullied us either though I just know their more realistic fans (if they exist) are concerned about trenches

They were more talented than Mich last year and Mich turned it into a street fight.. I would be down and play action off of it, but we seem allergic to play action fr.. They are ultra talented but there will be plays to be had.. Dawson got to get it together tho, he kinda embarrassed himself on big stage last time out

I don't think trying to outflank their LBers and Downs in the run game is the ticket. Most likely outcome is that we struggle to run the ball at all against them, because they are a great run defense, and Beck is going to have to carry the offense.

However, if we are to have success running, I think it will be from inside the tackles out. Texas had a fair amount of success running the ball between the tackles against this OSU defense, and Michigan has historically bullied Day's defenses.

In that Fletcher highlight clip, which was mostly duo, the holes were massive and no one touched him close to the LOS. That's the best our OL, TE, and WRs have run blocked since USF, and A&M was a lot better than USF. Heck even Lofton destroyed a guy on a wham block.

If the light bulb went on and we run block like we did against A&M we can run the ball right at OSU. Will it happen? I dunno, but sure hope so, would make winning a whole lot easier.

See my response to @Hurracanes, but I clearly wasn't comparing OSUs run defense to A&Ms. We run blocked great against A&M. Hence, if we repeat that against OSU we will be able to run the ball against them. Gonna be a lot harder, because of how much better OSU's run defense is, but that was an impressive as **** performance by our OL and Co against A&M. I just think we shouldn't wave the white flag before the game against OSU and say we can't run on them between the tackles cause they're too good there.
