Adding another layer to the “National Miami brand” topic…no it’s not around chick’s hoodies.
I live in North Georgia, and my kid’s 8u team was in their division championship game yesterday. FOUR things key to the Miami brand happened that made me not only smile, but made me extremely proud. It’s pretty cool how our brand extends to all levels of the game, and even outside of Florida.
1. They played In the Air Tonight in the pregame (not really the same as our warmups obviously, but it’s only kids, and it was the last song played immediately before they came out on the field).
2. Our team put up a tunnel and got a machine so that they could “run out through the smoke.”
3. The announcer told everyone to put up their four fingers after the 3rd quarter (yes, I know Alabama started this one, but we popularized it).
And my favorite one…
4. Our team was down by six, with less than two minutes to go, but driving down the field in the hurry-up offense. Everyone was going crazy. The announcer then said Santana’s quote,” Big time players step up in big games,” and repeated it. I friggen lost it. It was so awesome.
