The National Miami Brand

Vintage college gear seems to be hot. I went to Tokyo and you had model chicks wearing Iowa sweatshirts.

I didn’t know Hollister was still in business. It seems like a very 2004 brand.

Wrap your head around this. Florida graduates roughly as many students yearly as Miami does in ten years.

Over decades of traveling and in some very remote areas in every corner of the US - after many impromptu meeting engagements with other UM fans - it's apparent that we may not have the largest numbers, but we are everywhere!

We were in New Jersey for a baseball tournament this summer for my son. Stopped Hollister to kill some time between games. My son got a Miami shirt. They had a few other teams as well (Tennessee, Rutgers, UCLA, Oregon and LSU)

I have seen visual evidence that there are Canes fans in some far flung corners of this planet.

Adding another layer to the “National Miami brand” topic…no it’s not around chick’s hoodies.

I live in North Georgia, and my kid’s 8u team was in their division championship game yesterday. FOUR things key to the Miami brand happened that made me not only smile, but made me extremely proud. It’s pretty cool how our brand extends to all levels of the game, and even outside of Florida.

1. They played In the Air Tonight in the pregame (not really the same as our warmups obviously, but it’s only kids, and it was the last song played immediately before they came out on the field).

2. Our team put up a tunnel and got a machine so that they could “run out through the smoke.”

3. The announcer told everyone to put up their four fingers after the 3rd quarter (yes, I know Alabama started this one, but we popularized it).

And my favorite one…

4. Our team was down by six, with less than two minutes to go, but driving down the field in the hurry-up offense. Everyone was going crazy. The announcer then said Santana’s quote,” Big time players step up in big games,” and repeated it. I friggen lost it. It was so awesome.

All the way out on the West Coast visiting Anaheim/Irvine, CA up from San Diego. I’m walking through the mall and I look in the Hollister’s window (I don’t shop there) but I see they have college gear. So I walk into the store and look around, what do you know? All west coast teams besides one team 🙌🏾View attachment 343429View attachment 343430View attachment 343431
