…is the timing. The sport is changing at an unprecedented rate. In 2021, we had a depleted roster (one 7th round pick in draft), a complacent athletic department, an obsolete brand, and one of the worst recruiting classes in America. We were about to be left even further in the dust.

When that orange-and-green logo flashed across the screen on Sunday, it represented more than a playoff berth. We are front and center for the new era of college football.

For years now, we’ve been cast off as a dying program with the question often asked ‘Is Miami back?” I was pleasantly surprised to see and hear so many in the media get behind us for a playoff spot. And many in the media have said CFB is better when Miami is better.

This playoff spot is more than just that. It validates the decision to hire Mario and, no matter the outcome, puts us back in the national spotlight and reenergizes the brand. Mario himself admits we’re not “there” yet but have come along way in the last 4 years.

Hopefully, Mario can capitalize on the momentum and set us up for great things to come in the near and distant future.

It's been far from perfect but the trajectory has been undeniably up and to the right. We've hopefully established a real floor as a program:
annual playoff contention and a return to being a national powerhouse.

Over the last two season, we've gone:
  • 20-4 during the regular season
  • Finished with a top 15 ranking each year
  • Four losses were by a combined 18 points and all were one-possession games
  • And have now spent 33 straight weeks ranked, including 20 total weeks inside the top-10.
We are built for national exposure every year and positioned to be one of the most attractive brands in any future realignment conversation.

The question now becomes how far can he take us?

I do have a question D$. With Echeverria taking over as President over an academic like Frenk do you think whoever we hired would have large NIL support because he just knows the business of what’s going on? For example had we landed Lane at the time, would the Mas, Soffer, etc still be donating like this or do you think it’s because Mario is a homegrown kid.

Progress made and credit deserved, but we still losing too many top recruits in our backyard. Its the only issue Mario has yet to fix.

Ik we've adjusted (thankfully) our base and gone national which has paid off, but we're talking dynasty -- 6,7,8,9 -- if we get back to keeping our talent home.

That'll take a lil more time and polishing of the logo.

I think Echevarria is a home run for Canes Football and athletics in general. He is at practice, he is at games (all sports) and he is extremely competitive.

If you're reading this, Rudy Fernandez, everyone in here should send you thanks.

Between Rudy, the new President, the Chair of the Board (Kadre), and a few others who are competitive, there may finally be understanding that a top athletic brand - specifically, football - is a gamechanger that actually trickles to almost all aspects of a University.

Takes money and commitment. Let's not stop now.

Like we should do in the actual football games, *KEEP THE FOOT ON THE GAS.*

It was always gonna take time these kids grew up seeing Miami mostly irrelevant now they see dudes like Malachi Toney instantly becoming a national superstar from our backyard on a playoff team...the younger generation is definitely feeling the Canes now..I saw Jasen Lopez commit to FSU n he looked like his dog just died 😂

Ok wait… what is this place ?!!! LOOK AT US .. all getting along and sh**!! 😂
I have not heard the mopes in a while !

Was the playoffs all it took this whole time??! lol

We got one more week of sunshine pumping! After that, it’s back to who we truly are as a fan base! 😂
If A&M goes up 3-0 on the 20th it'll head on back to idiocy.

@The U is back to work

Rudy Fernandez (then UM's Chief of Staff and very close Joe E ally) was on OBB's podcast day after-ish Mario got the nod and Joe E (and Rudy) were acknowledged key figures in making it happen...

He specifically mentioned to Toast, "...we have calculated a Top 10 Miami is equivalent to $100MM in brand advertising..."

Remember, Joe E salvaged UHealth (Shalala made the right strategic decision, but operationally was a disaster) from almost bankrupting the University of Miami (hundreds of millions in losses) to creating one of Florida's premier health systems on its way to generating billions. BILLIONS.

The man has a track record of making money + leading organizations.

He could become UM's most consequential President in history if he pulls the trigger on campus expansion to Palm Beach or somewhere farther North (an economic and demograpic existential critical need).

I know everyone including myself rags on Kirk "Herbie doesn't like to make toys" Herbstreit a lot, but the guy called out the university for its unwillingness to invest in the football program. Whether anyone likes it or not or wants to admit to it, but when The U is on, the buzz in college football is much louder. How loud is that buzz about Texas Tech? Ohio State? Ole Miss? No one outside of those states really cares, but The U? Oh they care in NY, they care in California, they care in South Dakota, etc. So yeah D$ you are 1000% right my man.
