Once again..not with 8 turnovers against duke and giving up 45 points to middle tennessee state it wouldn't
What we are doing on field right now has nothing to do with the philosophy of what these guys want to do.. We had soo many backs down and TVD that they had no choice but to skew to pass.. Never said the problem is running too much either.. The philosophy of what mario wants is clearly stated in his interviews and his choices in coaches. We are 113th in run/pass ratio. This isn’t smash mouth football. That’s a myth that needs to die. This is a pass-happy offense that sucks at passing.
We need massive, fundamental changes, but the problem isn’t running too much.
it's okay to acknowledge that the playcalling has been crap and so have the players..Once again..
Last years same play calling would have way more buy in, less thinking from the QB on down.. with less mistakes imo.
This offense if more talented, and more experience then last year, but with way less results. Why is that? Play calling.
I get many want to just pretend all of sudden these players are just jags now. But to not realize how damaging this offense has been to the players is disingenuous.
Agreed with everything stated. At this point just have to support and hope we can outtalent teams and trip into a competent OC.I’m not going to get into the hiring process, but from what we all heard, I don’t think Gattis was his 1st choice. Water under the bridge at this point.
There’s also the argument that Mario isn’t an X’s and O’s guru so my question is just how much influence does he really have on the O scheme.
We could go on and on as to why we’re seeing the **** we’re seeing on offense. Bottom line is it’s obvious something’s gotta give and only Mario has the power to change it…… or not.
i think too he going to have to give up his boys Ponce and Mirobal and the te coach. No OC wants to bring in his system w/o his people that are familiar with it. Gattis did and look how its turning out. Dude never worked w/ any of his 3 offensive assistants previously. Folks hollering for this OC and that OC they not coming under the current terms of these are your coordinators. Gattis leaves get ready for Ponce as the new OC unless he take an OC job else where. Then and only then do i think Mario would let an OC come in w/ his own qb coach and maybe te coach but as far as oline i thinks thats off limits for any OC.I’m not going to get into the hiring process, but from what we all heard, I don’t think Gattis was his 1st choice. just watching over college games, involving the likes of UCLA, Tenn, etc, just how easy they move the ball and score. They create open space for their skill guys, big plays downfield, and it looks easy and efficient. It looks modern. We looks prehistoric at times in our approach
Our old friend, Jedd Fisch, is putting up some numbers at a rebuilding Arizona program. Oregon, they are racking up numbers. Go down the line across the country.
Everything UM does offensively is a grind. Just very difficult, and they can't layer their plays to create explosive ones down the line
Yeah, I get it, our OLine is depleted, running backs are down, we need an infusion of speed outside (all of which will be addressed through recruiting and portal), but your system and play-calling have to be tailored for the current players you have. I get it, I dont expect the 2001 unit, but I would think we should average at least 20 points vs P5 teams
Last season under Lashlee we were around 35 points per game.
I dont know if this is all on Josh Gattis, but he certainly shoulders some of the blame.
My one concern about Mario was his offensive philosophy(tied into game management), and well, this season hasn't assuaged my worries in that department. It's Ok to put up 50-points on folks and just blow them out. It doesn't always have to be ground-and-pound.

Gattis being on the sideline sure helped. Appalling playcalling.
The problem passing as much as we are is doing it with a scheme that’s very vanilla with its route concepts. A lot of the concepts are deeper , more slow developing plays. Based off having a good running game that plays to big shots in the passing game. We don’t have the OL for that. I know we’ve added some different things the last few weeks but it looks as if cb’s were sitting on everything yesterday. Like the play sheet is getting used up. Gattis isn’t exactly known for being some kind of pass game guru.We are 113th in run/pass ratio. This isn’t smash mouth football. That’s a myth that needs to die. Agree on OL, Mirabal. Who I think is a well-regarded coach.i think too he going to have to give up his boys Ponce and Mirobal and the te coach. I agree that he is a talent acquisition guy. If he believes that championship teams have huge offensive lines that can impose their will running the ball, he is correct historically and currently. But those teams are also cutting-edge in the passing game. What we are doing on field right now has nothing to do with the philosophy of what these guys want to do.. We had soo many backs down and TVD that they had no choice but to skew to pass.. Never said the problem is running too much either.. They are now in just survive mode, which I dont mind.. I rather win like yesterday by any means, but I am not taking the stats from that to prove anything. We can look at Mario career and see his philosophy. He is talent acquisition guy, he is not x and o guy.. He will never be, we just have to hope with the 8 milli we paid him he can do what he wants to execute his neanderthal football
Leaking crap out to cover his *** and blaming players is when I was out. Telling the media your qb doesn’t have wr’s numbers was beyond sleazy and we all know why he did it. I knew coming in he was a pretty toxic dude and he hasn’t disappointed.Or maybe yelling at his unit they are the worst bunch he's ever seen after every three and out was not motivational enough?
Joking aside I wonder what Ponce was doing? Not a vote of confidence if the OC has to come down from the booth and take over some of your duties.
I know you were getting work done but if you ever watch the game, you will see how no one was open. UVA was all over our WR’s and TE’s. I know our WR’s suck and are slow but the routes we run are as bad as Lashlee’s running play draws. Holy ****. Yesterday, it was more noticeable than ever. The problem passing as much as we are is doing it with a scheme that’s very vanilla with its route concepts.
