(The) Indiana (Game)

The bama game vs Indiana is a good watch. Its reflective of the Indiana team to date. Bama kept the game competitive but screwed themselves by going for it on 4th down on their own 40 yd line when it was only 3-0 and they lost all momentum

Indiana on offense:
1. They are a run first offense with great running backs, stop the run and make them one dimensional
2. Stop Charlie Becker, the other receivers are good but Becker is by far WR1
3. Pressure Mendoza
4. Bama pressured Mendoza but his legs did a ton of work and kept the chains moving, limit scrambles

Defense:
1. Do not throw contested passes vs Indiana, throw it away or take the sack.

2. Down 10-0 bama was driving and marching down the filed Ty Simpson tries to get extra yards and he gets hit hard and fumbles.

I think the most eye opening thing is how hard the defense hits. Hetherman should give a talk to the offense and tell them to give themselves up and try to limit fighting for yards unless they are near the sidelines.

The goodm thing is we can cite the OSU defense in the quarters, our players fumbled multiple times trying to fight for extra yards, OSU hit them and made them fumble but we were lucky to recover 2/3 i think. Same concept with Indiana here they want to hurt you and dislodge the ball. Stay down and try to limit fighting for extra yards.

Their defense is definitely the more scary unit, we should be able to limit their offense. Beck and Fletcher need to have their A+ games respectively

1. No tight coverage/high traffic throws into coverage by beck
2. Holding on to the ball by Fletch

I just watched the Big ten champ game and 2 things really stand out for me.

1. with all the NFL talent Taint has at DB they were playing way off the line on their receivers. Curious why they didnt' bump them off the line to disrupt the quick timing passing game of Indiana

2. Their boneheaded coach calls a pass on a 3rd and 1 in the redzone that goes nowhere and makes up for it by a QB sneak puts his knee down before getting the 1st in a 3 point game leading to a turnover on downs and zero points. Why not run the ball on 3rd and 1 with an actual Running back if you are the bigger team?
Because Day is an idiot.

Biggest concern is health/availbility on defense

Mesidor - came back in but wasn’t using his hurt arm/not as effective
Moten - came back in but was limping around/ not as effective
OJ - who knows
Brown - who knows
Lucas - obviously awaiting appeal
Thomas - assuming just a stinger to his shoulder
Mesidor- wouldn’t miss this game if his arm was hanging on by a tendon
Moten-he was chasing down chambliss another 10 days he’s gonna be good
OJ-said he gonna be back
Brown- said he gonna be back
Lucas-NCAA is lame
Thomas-will be fine.

And half our team will be recovered from the flu canes by 50

"Mendoza mostly played from the lead and was supported by a strong run game. He operated out of the shotgun formation in a highly structured, systematic, rigid and predictable college offensive scheme that depended on heavy route leverage

.Mendoza was a rigid 1-to-2 read “progression passer” mostly from his spot and if those two options weren’t there immediately, he appeared to panic and lost his downfield focus, his feet became unsettled and he attempted to get out of the pocket and run

.Mendoza hard locked with all his 2nd read throws and additionally tended to pat the ball pre-delivery to further tip off when and where he was aiming and throwing. Most of Mendoza’s throwing locations looked pre-determined pre-snap."

• Didn’t show natural feel for pressure in the pocket or the ability to move and reset his spot and then throw from the pocket in response to pressure.

• Didn’t show he could actually read coverage post snap and did everything he could to avoid throwing into crowded areas and throwing into coverage inside the numbers without the aid of a boundary.

• Didn’t show the ability to make post snap adjustments as a passer if his systematic 1st and 2nd throwing options weren’t there.

He’s a good college QB but I’m not expecting him to do anything at the next level. Him being projected #1 has more to do with how atrocious this QB class is. It’s one of the worst in the modern history of the league.
