I was fortunate to be at the PSU and Syracuse games. I was an away-game guy back then.6 home games, 5 away games. Hurricane Andrew year.
Ranked Iowa away - 24-7 win
Ranked Pedo St away - 17-14 win
Ranked Syracuse away - 16-10 win (in November)
Ranked F$U rivalry at home - 19-16 win
Arizona disaster at home - 8-7 win
And 4 of the 5 games listed above came in our first 5 games over a 5 week span. Brutal way to open the season post-Andrew.
The other 6 games, we scored between 35 and 63 points per game.
Statistically, we were good on O.
12th in total offense and 9th in total offense.
Tough schedule agree, especially under those circumstances... although Iowa and Penn state didn't finish out the year too well.
Not many know this but Arizona had the #1 scoring D that year. Bama was #2 (1st in total D), FSU #13 and Syracuse in the top-25.
So, we weren't going against slouches.
Maybe the Walsh/Erikson years spoiled me.
Those 4 years when we had either of those guys starting, we scored 20, or less, just once.
They scored on everybody.
In Vinnie's two years, we were held under 20 only twice (once per)...and we know what those two games were.
You have to go back to the Bernie years where we were held to less than 20 more than once.
