The Gattis experiment

Miami total yards versus Texas A&M - 392 ... 5.9 per pass, 4.9 per rush
Alabama total yards versus Texas A&M - 399 ... 5.8 per pass, 5.6 per rush.

Offensive output is not the problem...the play calls as is are enough to be one of the highest yardage totals any team will see all year.

Let me know when we start seeing consistent execution of simple football **** on the field and then maybe we can discuss galaxy brain nonsense.

And I thought Enos was bad……Gattis apparently was not the sole play caller at Michigan, obviously.

Dan Enos as the OC of Maryland is 12th in the nation in YPP this year and Taulia Tagavailoa is throwing for 75% completion percentage. 42nd last year in his first year at Maryland. He was 78th at Miami.

I wonder where the problem was...

locksley called all the plays at Bama. id imagine hes doing the same again at MD.

what if Mario is micro-managing the playcalling? Might not be Gattis so much in certain situations..
I've been thinking this as well....in the red zone basically. He shouldn't be involved with that game day at all, he's not a good offensive mind.

His plày calling works fine with an average OL.

Miami does not have an average OL. They are putrid in run game.
Disagree. His play calling terrible. A play caller knows what his guys can and cannot do and calls plays that work with the personal on hand.

Additionally a good play called changes tactics when facing an opponent intent on denying your preferred plays. If a defense loads the box and has leverage advantages against the run, you have to pass on them even if you want to run. Gattis completely ignores this fundamental rule in the red zone. Sun Tzu understood this in antiquity and Gattis doesn’t comprehend it today:

You can be sure of succeeding in your attacks if you only attack places which are undefended.

The OL has played fairly well. No OLine looks good running into 8/9 men fronts with the defense daring you to throw.

So when a coach takes a job he shouldn’t start to implement his vision for the program and system until 3 years in?

i get it you have a narrative but this is possibly the worst take I’ve ever read on this site.
a coaches job is to put his players in the best position to succeed. ask yourself if Mario has done that.

yesterday proved that through the first 4 games Mario failed to do his job. he tried to force this team to be something it isn’t and there was glimpses of that yesterday also.

If our OL is as bad as you say why are we running the same bs that hasn’t worked in the same area for the entire season? So that is on the coach. Just like lining up 85 in-line to run block every knowing he hasn’t done it in four years . That’s dumb!!

Big Manny Frostoballess' philosophy isn't dumb on this and he has repeatedly communicated in his various pressers he isn't abadoning what he feels works and what got him here.

Put it another way (to an EXTREME DEGREE): US military doesn't change training and tactics because of the recruits we get/have. You will broken, you will learn, you will succeed or ypu will not be here and we will move on to the next.

Big Manny's philosophy is "system first" not "player first". JJ, Saban, Meyer, et al think exactly the same way. Yes they tweak, but only after the base system is established.

Big Manny KNOWS he has the time, because he isn't getting fired for at least 4-5 years, to install what works.

We all need to settle in for the long painful ride rhis is going to be.

LOVE ME some Sun Tzu.

Of course you know one of his foundational principles is:

"Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win"

Big Manny BELIEVES, therefore he KNOWS, ypu don't secure Ws by chasing schemes.

His philosophy is ground and pound, its what hot him here, he has messaged so repeatedly in pressers.

He isn't changing.

"...
I suspect Richt and Dan Penos in the Enos had similar thoughts/experiences. 👇

"How bad can the OL really be?"

After first few practices👇

"They are bad, but we'll coach'em up"

Determined to make the system work that brought them success in the past👇

"Ok, I just know on the next play that relies on the OL, we are going to get success and this train starts rolling..."

👆Long wait on train don't come.....

If Gattis is planning on an effective run game in short yardage for 2022, he runs the risks of having Enos like results....
..."

Gattis is not, nor should he be expected to, change is philosophy in what "got him here".

INSANITY to think otherwise.
Lmao
He should absolutely change “what got him here” if it’s not WORKING here!! What got him here is another man’s play calling to be honest lol. Their offense ain’t miss a beat without him! Every place is different and you have to be able to adjust to the players and tweak your playbook to match what your CURRENT guys do best! Not try and fit a square peg into a round hole!
