The FSU game crowd

Imagine when we're finally in the BIG10 and our home schedule has Ohio State, USC, and Oregon. Instead, next year we get Troy, Cal, GT, Louisville, UVA and an unnamed garbage team.

Amazing, brother! I remember it as if it was yesterday. We took the Bruins souls that day.

They were ranked #3 and fighting for a spot in the BCS championship game. The fact that our Canes willed themselves to victory was, in my opinion, the catalyst for the return of our dominance. It signaled to the FBS world that we were coming. (PAUSE)

Also, I can’t recall us ever storming the field either after any other game. Excellent observation, as usual. You’re the G.O.A.T., brother!

And this was the week after we got our doors blown off by Syracuse 66-13. That was an amazing turn around

Most students are there to hang with their friends. The minute someone mentions going to a bar or club they are out. It’s not unique to our fanbase

The student turnout was an embarrassment. How they don't fill their sections for our biggest rivalry and biggest home game of the season is beyond me.

Besides that, it was good crowd. Upper end zones were a bit sparse for a supposed "sell-out," but that's to be expected when the school tries to rip off its fans with overpriced nosebleed tickets, and then dumps them onto the secondary market at the last minute.
The majority of the students don’t have any ties to Miami or care about the rivalry. They are mostly rich kids from somewhere else. Student turnout at games has been abysmal for a long time.

I think a lot of folks likely partied too hard and bailed.

But, anyways, I was chuckling after the fact because this sweet old man in front of me dipped at 28-21 and I felt pretty comfortable myself that FSU wasn't going to score so I understood why he was getting a beat on traffic and then that 75 yard pass happened. I was wondering after the game if he decided to stay or not and watch the end.

My in laws went to Penn State. They were at the Miami-Penn State game in 1999 at the OB and left right before PSU hit that 80 yard pass (very similar to the FSU play) because my mother in law wanted to beat the traffic.

This will never change. I still remember my first Orange Bowl game, swaths of people left the Orange Bowl as UCLA took a 38-21 lead in that 1998 game.

I do think that college towns and their fans are different than big metropolitan cities. I see a lot of the same stuff in Los Angeles...

It happens in New Orleans. Tulane students leave at halftime even it's a close game unless it's something like the conference championship game or a game against Ole Miss or someone like that. I don't understand leaving at halftime against FSU, in a close game, even if it means you get back to campus at a bad hour.

But with a team like the canes, you have to have those types of amenities.

Small school, small student body, off campus stadium, 95% of the people there are not students, but are working adults, many (probably most) who never even attended the U.

A college type stadium wouldn’t work for Miami.
The orange bowl did.

I'm far past college age, so I'm sure they have this and don't shoot me if not, but the school needs to set up buses leaving every 10 minutes going from campus to the game, and then back afterwards. Make them party buses, let them drink, put stripper poles up, who gives a ****. Go walk through campus and force kids onto the buses at gunpoint. I understand trying to get there when you're 19 years old and hammered would suck, but the school needs to put a task force on getting as many kids as humanly possible free transportation there and back.

Again, I'm sure they have something like this set up. I just think, if it's not being encouraged at many decibels, they need to do that.

When I was at Tulane they played in the Superdome, and trust me, there was drinking on the buses going from campus. I never got one of the busses with stripper poles though.

Yes, sir. It showed the grit and determination that those Canes had. I believe that was the last year of our sanctions where we lost 33 scholarships during a 3 year period as a result of the Pell Grant fraud scandal.

It’s incredible that Butch was able to still have us competitive with that many scholarships being taken away. We had very little depth.

I may or may not have left the NC game a little early. Lol. Sometimes it be like that. Sorry to disappoint. :6fps6:

Just FYI, the students have been doing this for years. This is a big consideration as it relates to the games being in Hard Rock. Without relitigating the "on-campus stadium" pros and cons, we have to be honest that the distance from campus to Hard Rock, the length of the bus trip, and the fact that many students have concerns with academic priorities...puts us in a situation where I have watched UM students leave games at halftime...FOR TWENTY YEARS.
As my son told me when he was at Miami, a lot of students never leave the tailgate and decide to head back to campus. Many are in no shape to study...lol. We were on campus around 1 pm and the frats were hopping. Swung by Harry's and then headed to the Titanic.Still hopping on the way to the car then to Hard Rock.

The numbers don't lie, just google the average attendance for Miami at the OB. Now I get it, fans/students will not show up for ECU but Saturday was against our rival. The BIGGEST home game of the year because our home schedule sucks (next year it's another crappy home schedule). Yet the students decided that they can't sacrifice their partying/time for one game?

The distance to me is a BS excuse also. Again, I'll point out that the students can walk to the Watsco and that arena is empty.
Student seating is behind the basketball. My son's senior year was the Elite 8 season. He would text me student section was packed for most conference games. It waa the rest of the arena that was the problem.
