The Foreclosure (7/12)

There’s others apparently offering a ton of money as well and then it’s sales and we can’t overcome certain things- @Cribby mentioned conference being one that is killing us. I’m sure Mario’s general coaching acumen on game day, lack of high round nfl picks… all of it is contributing
It’s a death of a thousand cuts.

1. The brand isn’t nearly as strong with the youth. These kids care nothing about Miami from 20-30 years ago. They barely remember what they ate for breakfast and it’s a short attention span society on top of it . I have a HS kid that works for me when schools out. He’s a low level D1 commit. He looks at me like I have turds hanging out of my mouth when I try to explain what we used to be. These kids know who’s playing in big games and winning natties. Wins do matter.

2. Development and draft. These recruits pay attention to who’s getting drafted at their positions and who’s being developed. Miami has been almost non existent in the early rounds for a good while. There’s a reason OSU keeps landing stud after stud at wr. Every Saturday there’s a three hour infomercial on the wr position.

3. Conference. Yes it matters , it’s not the end all but it’s one of the ingredients in the cake. These kids know the perception. The Sec is slurped nationally by the day and even more during the season. On top of that they see the draft. They want to be considered the best so the narrative is the Sec is just that. So of course they want to say “ I play in the Sec”. Being in the Acc one hundred percent has a negative affect on things. As I said earlier “ kids have asked for 200 k more to come here because it wasn’t the Sec. Oh and spare me on the ND comparison. That brand is bigger and stronger nationally on top of having their very own network. Also let’s not forget being far more relevant than Miami the last 10–15 years.

4. Coaching. Mario isn’t considered a high level coach , nowhere close , that’s just the blunt truth. Kids want to be coached and well. We brought in a guy everyone knew was an elite recruiter and haven’t got elite results. If he can’t keep Miami top 5-7 in recruiting rankings consistently we’ll get the same results . He’s not going to overcome talent with his gameday coaching.

5. NIL. I save the most important one for last. Kids want to get paid . Miami is a top ten NIL program but they are not elite. There’s 4-5 teams that just play at a different level. Miami is far from being the Rays but nowhere close to being the Dodgers.

The uncomfortable truth is the Miami program and a lot of us fans view the program as something that we aren’t nationally. We’re closer to Pit than Georgia even though most of our recruiting battles are against UGA and teams at their level. Thank god for NIL!! The brand has been abused worse than Tina Turner.

One ten win season every 8-10 years won’t change the narrative and perception. Especially when you nose dive to finish the two times we accomplished double figure wins. Fans nationally believe Ward did everything last year and put cologne on the program . So this year is an absolute must to keep trending up. The one thing Mario has left to tell kids is look at the programs direction, 5,7,10 and double figures again.

The Acccg and a playoff spot is essential. That’s not hyperbole or fan hope. That’s the feeling inside the program. The coaches know how important this year is.

It’s year four and there’s been a lot of equity piled into this roster / staff. Any thing less than improvement is another lost season with a program and fan base stuck in the drive way.

I’m not soapboxing about this because I’m guilty as well but these threads always remind me of terrible corporate meetings where everyone at the company tries to figure out what’s wrong

Then you bring in an outside consultant

Just ask some people (legit people not Twitter retards) at OSU or Bama or Texas or whoever about Miami

We are a joke to them. A rich joke that’s throwing around money but a joke nonetheless

So of course a lot of recruits are gonna treat us the same way
Nothing worse than a company bringing in an incompetent, off-base outside consultant and then making disastrous decisions off their horrid advice.

If we only win 9 games, we will have an even worse class than the one we have.
If we win 10 games, we will hold and flip a couple key guys.
If we win 11 games and make the ACC CG, we will hold, flip a few key guys and maybe a couple of big fish.
That's who we are right now.
Then, we we have to pony up for another QB in the portal, we will have to prove that again and again and again.

Perfectly said. The ingredients for this season have all been bought. They’re waiting for the chef. Whip up a tasty meal again this year and maybe the neighbors start to get a whiff and wanna see what’s going on over there.

Then maybe we see if we can start shopping in a different aisle going forward. But for as bleak as recruiting looks for this minute, at the end of the day this is a football program, and not a recruiting program. I’m as guilty as anyone at getting wrapped up into crooting, and for **** sure you don’t win long-term without the horses, but at this minute in time, we’re about to embark on an incredibly critical season for this program. And we have enough horses in the stable now to make some noise. It’s about time to go do it. The only way to change narratives are to force differing facts down people’s throats. Back to back 10 win seasons, a first playoff birth, a first ACC title….those things matter.

As a football coach, you’re judged on what you do on the football field. Period. Go make some noise on a bunch of em this fall.

Only one way to change that.

I’ve been saying 7-8 wins. I’ll go with 8 wins right now. The middle of our front seven on defense is going to get dragged. I can see losses to ND and the gator off the bat.

Great, so I'll expect you on the Mario bus if we're in the playoffs despite these recruiting issues. Because that's what this season should produce for us. If it doesn't happen, then I'll accept he's not going to get it done.

I agree with Mario having issues as a gamebday coach and strategist but he can develop talent. the guy has put plenty of good players into the nfl. he just needs more talent to overcome his issues.

And honestly, as good as 10 wins was, that season was very easy for opponents to recruit against:

- even with the best player in CFB, we almost went 8-5.
- even with the best qb in college, we couldn’t make the acccg. How are we to compete against the big boys if we constantly lose to inferior teams?
- etc etc
But but but “It smells like ****** in here” 😂😂

Love when posters can only respond with quotes like that to simple, factual posts like you presented; instead, they resort to out-toughing their opposing posters and beating their chest as if they’re the strongest of the bunch.

Sort of like our inept and limited HC.

Put us in the SEC and we have top 5 recruiting classes in perpetuity. It’s that simple. All things being equal, players prefer to play in the big leagues against the best teams in full stadiums. Mario is recruiting with one hand tied behind his back.

We’re totally ready for the SEC.
Here’s the news breaking now:

kayvon? cam don't count? arroyo? Francis will be a top pick. he needs more but lets not act like he cant develop.
It’s great for a 8-4 program but what he has developed and sent to the league during UO and Miami hasn’t been great where we want to be and I’m fine calling Cici and Bain day 1 and 2 picks right now.

He develops OL pretty well but his staffs have been lacking in development as a whole. Picking a guy or two out here and there is nowhere near enough. Just like his recruiting classes theres gaps. Areas that lack. Consistency is one area Mario struggles with in a multitude of areas.
