I started this thread after we played the gator and got no response so let me clarify. Manny himself used these exact words. He said we first need to get rid of a disease that has plagued this team for many years.
In my opinion almost every disease we have had showed up in the gator game. Missed tackles , penalties ,
Special team problems ,poor execution , lining up in wrong positions etc etc etc. How many times do we as fans scratch are heads about this disease and I can't put it any other way accept we have to stop doing dumb things. As "Jimmy told the team think about what you do out there. "
I want to be part of the Manny fan club but he has a learning curve but the honeymoon will not last forever.
So if he recognizes we have had "the disease" he also must have a remedy to fix it. I am not trying to create drama trust me. I love my Hurricanes no matter what. But I am tired of it and he is too. I wish him good luck.

The honeymoon won’t last forever b/c he self promoted himself & “his brand” of Miami football.

I mentioned that I was not a fan of the hire simply b/c I don’t believe in hiring coaches from failed regimes. I have enough sample sizes from all my teams, including Shannon being hired from Coker’s staff back in 07 to show that generally it doesn’t work. However, there was a different energy that surrounded Manny that appeared to be positive, so he started winning me over, but my reservations was still there.

What I saw was the same as last yr; the game was there for us to take, but lack of discipline and execution, particularly lack of discipline reared it’s ugly head. TNM looked like TOM.

Again, it’s 1 game, but if after a bye week we see the same lack of discipline & execution, then serious ?’s will arise. Manny placed the bull’s eye on his back with how much he talked, honestly.

We had a QB, C, and two tackles with their first start. The blitz recognition was poor and we need the C or QB to take control, if not both.

The defense was poor in my estimation because the one thing we were known for, tackling, betrayed us in critical moments.

I never want to focus on officiating but it was impactful to say the least.

Everything that could have went wrong, did, and we still almost won the game. It shows that if we simply go out with confidence, play smart ball and compete for 4 quarters, we'll be fine. I hope the loss was a wake-up call for these young men, because coaching wasn't the major issue.

There are players on the roster with more experience that could have started and won the game, but Manny chose the starters based on potential and where he sees them at the end of the season. TIFWIW.

Who exactly are you referring to? Just curious.

I don’t think those examples you gave are part of the disease Manny has referred to. The missed tackles, penalties and lined up wrong all happen in the first game of the season, it’s just magnified if it’s a big game. Take a look at week one games and tell me every power 5 program didn’t have those same issues.
I believe the disease Manny is referring to is the mindset of the players, the give in attitude because of past results mindset, the negative mentality that has spread throughout the program because that’s what the norm has been for years here. If the disease was what you say it is, it would be an easy fix but that’s just not the case here, to change a mindset and direction of a program is one of the most difficult things a leader faces. Manny has his hands full and the fans have to be patient because these things don’t get corrected overnight.

This team would have folded last year, it didn't. That's a start. As for the missed tackles and sloppy play,it's week one and you could find plenty of this in any other college game from this weekend. And why usually Northwest Southeast school of the blind gets scheduled for the first game.

Let's see if we have improvement this week.

It’s something I sure can’t explain other than disease! I mean we recruit 4 stars at receiver and we have three four star QBs, Four stars al over the defense and yet we keep getting our **** pushed in.

Add the fact that no matter who we put on the Oline, hire different Oline coaches and yet it still looks like the same product! I don’t get it!

That "disease" started when Coker was still in charge and it hasn't been purged since.

Go back and look at those recruits that started infiltrating the program around 2003-2005—"highly-ranked" guys who didn't have what it took to maintain what had been built before them. They saw that "U" on the helmet and all the recent dominance, but didn't have a clue the hard work that those kids put in from 1996-2000 to build that 2001champion and to set up that run.

Ryan Moore. Lance Leggett. Tyrone Moss (talented as ****, but equally as lazy). Kyle Wright (four different OC's, but lacked "it"). James Bryant. Kellen Heard. Charlie Jones. Khalil Jones. Willie Williams. Randy Phillips. Reggie Youngblood.

Outside of the fact Larry Coker couldn't recruit the right kids—he also couldn't motivate or develop them. The attitudes on that team after his first three years; two titles games, an Orange Bowl and a 35-3 start—followed by 25-12 and his *** getting canned at the end of 2006 and sticking around to win that BlueTurf Bowl over Nevada.

The Canes finally seem to have a guy in Diaz who understand the blueprint in regards to how you build a winner at Miami—which starts with recruiting, motivating and developing the right kids who fit the program and brand.

I like Manny Diaz. But I am still not sold on our OC. This weekend vs NC will tell us more about the offensive scheme. I am not a fan of delayed handoffs into 8 men fronts with a Oline that isn’t very good.

I’ll be looking for spread and RPOs even though that’s not what Enos has traditionally run in his former coaching stints!
