schadjoe: Jeff Long says it's not most DESERVING teams, but the focus is the BEST four teams that shall get into the bracket

Welp

GeorgeSchroeder: Selection committee chair Jeff Long will explain reasoning for Top 25 each week on an ESPN broadcast.

Welp

DanWolken: The ONLY ranking that matters is the one on the final day. This will create a lot of complications…Let me give you an example.

DanWolken: Theoretically, a team ranked 4th the final week could win their conference title game and still get passed and miss playoff...

DanWolken: How do you explain that if you’re on record talking about why you ranked them 4th the previous week? Disaster waiting to happen.

DanWolken: They’re already trying to ***** this up. “It’s the four best!” Ok, what makes them the best? “We said so!”

Welp

Sounds like the excuses are already being made why an SEC team who doesn't win their conference, maybe even division, will get in over another BCS conference champion.

The four major conferences should have a 4 team playoff. The winners of each conference enter a four team playoff.

Something along these lines would keep the voting/favoritism out of college football.

Bingo.

No surprise considering the chair is the AD at Arkansas.

ACC, SEC, Big 12, Big 10, Pac 12

There are 5 major conferences.

And unless there are 3 undefeated conference champions in there from the non SEC conferences, prepare for the SEC to have 2 of 4 playoff teams perennially.

No doubt. The SEC Champ and the SEC team (Alabama) who only lost to the SEC Champ. Every f'n year!

Until the Big 12 plays a conference title game again, I think it's fair to keep them out of the discussion of a "major conference". Why should the ACC, SEC, Big 10 and Pac 12 have to play an extra game that the Big 12 doesn't?

Because the Big 12 plays every team in their conference at this time where the other 4 don't.

Still better than the BCS, may it rot in sports ****.

I'd like to skull-**** its dead eye sockets.

They are setting it up to be 2 SEC teams every year

The ****storm that will occur if in the first year of this system a non conference champion SEC team gets into the playoff over a conference champion from the power conferences will be astronomical.

Tread lightly College Football Playoff.

Jesu Christo. Just go to an 8 team playoff already and be done. Win your conference and you're in. Then at least listening to clowns "make a case" for 3 additional $EC teams in spots 6-8 won't be as ridiculous as the two spots they're guaranteed in this system.

Everyone knew once they announced a 4-team playoff that atleast 2 SEC teams would make the playoff. Have any off you seen the playoff commute?!?! ******* Condalisa Rice is on it and a handful of SEC people. It will be the SEC championship game all over again in the final.

That's what was wrong with the previous system. The top two teams in the country could never have come from the same conference--when that could very well be the case. Put FSU in an SEC schedule last year and they very well could have lost a game or two.

What I do think is crazy is limiting it to four teams. Based on the current landscape, number of conferences, etc…it should be 6 (with top seeds getting a bye) or 8 with no bye.

I'm not here to defend FSU or anything, but what SEC schedule would they have lost a game or 2 in? Because the SEC was trash last year. Missouri went to the SEC Title Game. It was a mediocre conference compounded with the usual cupcake schedules, preseason over rankings and they lost two BCS games to an ACC team and a Big 12 team.

Alabama: @TAMU, LSU, AU
Ark: TAMU, UF, USC, Bama (all in consecutive weeks), BYE, AU

Those are just the first two team I looked at. Throw in an SEC champ game and yes, they could have lost 1-2 games.

Make it an 8 team playoff. The 5 conference champs, the AAC champ (if there is an undefeated one) and 2 others that are deserving.

Did anyone actually watch Texas A&M last year? Their defense was legendarily bad. Duke almost beat them in a bowl game. LSU also was mediocre, they could only muster 17 points on a Gators team that we scored 21 on and FSU dropped 37 on. South Carolina strugged with UNC, UCF, Kentucky and Florida.

FSU would have ran train on that conference, especially with Bama's schedule.
