The D should improve and here's why

I think to improve on Defense, the player who will help us most is Lo Lingard. Even with a mediocre improvement in blocking, he picks our awful 3rd down % up 10-20% on his own. That keeps the D from playing 40 min+ per game. Net win for the D.

Boston college a few years ago had an offense ranked in the 100s and a defense ranked #1 .

Stop blaming the offense for our glaring defensive issues.

Who is blaming? Just stating that being ranked 121 in TOP can leave a defense really tired, especially with so many moving on after this last year. It is fact the single most inept area was picking up 2nd and short, 3rd and short. They now have a guy that can will himself to the sticks and I don't see a defensive player who can make that much difference. Care to name one Poco?

As long as Manny Diaz is the DC blind followers will either blame the offense or now the new new excuse will be the lack of defensive tackles. It’s never Manny’s fault that we gave up 45 points in the first half of 2 games combined. Against average to below average offenses btw. It’s always Rosier’s fault LOL...

So, we scored 2.4 points/turnover. To show how bad that is, Clemson scored 91 points off of 19 turnovers, which is 4.79 Points/Turnover. They scored 19 MORE points than us on 11 LESS turnovers.

That is just ******* terrible. There's no way to spin that. Plus 2 of those TDs, which are bringing the average point/turnover up are the Pick 6's Bandy and Jaquan scored!

We scored a total of 354 points this year, so those Points off Turnovers were 20% of our total points. If our offense matched Clemsons 4.79 points/turnover we would have gotten 143 points, which would have been 33% of our total points on the season. So you can really see how much our offense shot ourselves in the foot, by just not taking advantage of what the defense gave them.

BTW we turned the ball over 15 times on offense and our defense only allowed 29 points off turnovers which is only 1.9 points/turnover.

All I know (and forget the Pitt game for a moment) that ACC title game was just a pathetic performance both offensively and defensively. Who was injured on D Demetrius Jackson? Like I have been saying no one. O was missing starting RB, TE and WR and with no depth I gave Rick a pass on offense.

Diaz totally failed as a DC vs both Clemson and Wisky. Has he ever heard of a nickel formation where you go to a 4-2-5? LBs can’t cover for **** so let’s try something different.

It doesn’t matter Rick will keep Diaz until people are so fed up then he will fire him. It’s not all on Diaz either what the **** technique is Rumph coaching?

Am I happy with 10-3? Sure but last 3 games were as bad defensively as I have seen..

What about consecutive/multiple 3 and outs? That puts awful pressure on the D.

****, against VT, they had the ball in good field position ready to take the lead on us from the middle of the second QTR to middle of the 3rd. We turned the ball over FOUR times in a row, AND had one of our famous first and goal inside the 5 with no points.

Disagree about chad . He was our most consistent performer in the last 2 games along the dline and it wasn’t close really

Kid was an animal against the run. Not sure Djax can match that but have my hopes that he comes back healthy and makes an impact.

Djack was playing the best of any dlineman we had before he got injured . Had 3.5 sacks 7.5 tfls in just 7 games

Only thing I will add is the momentum. Usually you get a boost from a turnover, especially us. But then you give the momentum right back to the other team when they get a stop.

True. Making it even worse that the offense was basically inept, and makes me credit the defense even more. On a consistent basis they had to go out there do everything right, causing more havoc than just about any team in the nation, to just get off the field and see the offense waste opportunity after opportunity away.

****, I don't even necessarily need to see a statistical improvement on the defensive side of the ball for next year. If our defense just literally does what they did this year, but our offense gets their head out of their ***, we have a great shot at winning the ACC.

That is a very telling stat. Turnovers are great but you put teams away when you score off them. The offense needs to carry their water.

**** it happened early in the season when Toledo picked us apart because we stayed in base 4-3. Had it not been for the drops that game would've been closer than what it was, their qb was throwing dimes all day.

Yeap. Throw special teams in there. Huge momentum shifter when you allow a good return and the d takes the field. Doesnt help the offense either when you cant return the ball past the 15. We better have a real special teams coordinator next year

We are an efficient QB away from making EVERYTHING look better. That includes defense, TOP, 3rd down %, RZ, etc.
