I don't really understand why we're closing like this. We lose out on the major uncommitted top local kids, i.e. Cook, etc.; we've lost one 4-star OL and probably will lose the biggest need prospect we've had committed (Valentine); and there really isn't major upside on signing day (maybe JC Jackson and Treon), while there exists some significant downside. If the "cloud" was real, and had a significant impact on our ability to recruit and close on top prospects, then why haven't we in fact had a VERY STRONG December and January, given that the looming specter of potential bowl sanctions is behind us? Why have the last two months sucked in recruiting if the NCAA investigation was such a big deal? Shouldn't we have seen a marked improvement provided minor slap in the wrist?

I think it's clear these are rhetorical questions. The cloud is a bunch of BS, just like the cherry-picked statistics Golden cites to when asserting that his defenses are somehow improving. It's an excuse; a false rationalization for failure. You know what is going to help us land Cooks and Lanes and Valentines? ******* winning big. Yea, maybe those kids have their hands out. But if this program was showing signs of reemerging into the elite class, those kids, with some exceptions, bypass the money and commit to play for the local elite program. It's what has happened when we win big. Players have always been getting paid; the difference is that right now, we've been irrelevant for a decade and are trending down. So why would a kid come here, turn down money and the SEC and packed stadiums, to play for a mediocre program coaches by a dope whose never won anything of significance in his life?

If we build it, they will come. Problem is we aren't building anything but a house of cards.

Very original thread right here.

Just put the popcorn in the microwave. Be back in a sec.

And saying it's because we suck is bull**** because Florida is having no problem.

Now that the "Cloud" is gone, people are realizing it wasn't just the cloud but also ****** coaching and schemes and no idea how to deal with the South Florida scum involved in recruiting.

Not speaking off of pure optimism nor am I a fortune teller but this team will be better than last years. Based off of yearly progression under this coaching regime everyone loves to hate we have improved in the wins category every year. Everybody wants us to win and win more and Al is giving us more and more wins but we still seem to b*tch and create threads such as this one..you said win and theyll come welp broham we are steadily winning more and more while getting rid of the guys who were used to losing for so long at the college level while at UM so look at that as an answer for your period rants.

All we need is 1 billion dollars to build our own stadium & hire top notch coaches. #simple

There are clouds because there's a major storm rolling in on Wednesday.

We're STRONGER - feel that BREEZE become a WIND then watch that Wind Become a STORM! #ChangeJustKickedTheDoorDown #StormTroopers #U #Dale

Florida did the right thing by firing their OC and bringing in a new guy. They could sell the recruits a story on how different and great the offense would look next year. We kept our putrid DC and the recruits on the fence saw no hope of any change in our ****** defense. If Al would have done the right thing (fire his bff), and brought in ANY new DC, he could have sold the recruits on how different and great the defense would look next year.

This old cloud (NCAA) hurt, we saw things in the past and that doesn't need to be debated...things should have improved. Perhaps the new cloud is the on the field performance, perhaps this scares away recruits more. This new cloud is self-inflicted obviously.

But as for closing strong, I don't get it. IMO it doesn't matter when a player commits, it matters if he commits. I know people are going to say, the best kids wait to commit on NSD but....

First, there is the whole thing about enrolling early. These kids usually aren't going to be coming down to January decisions.

EEs: Yearby, McDermott, Darling and Harris are all 4 star players. Would it be cool if these kids announced for the canes on NSD, sure but it is better to have them enrolled. None of these kids (including Berrios, Young, Hertelou, Owens and Mayes) will make the class look **** since they are all enrolled.

Second, there are the big time recruits who are already committed and have been committed to Miami.

Players like C. Thomas, Kaaya, Moten and Hester are all 4 stars and have all been committed since 2013. Unless these kids commit elsewhere, it doesn't mean much on NSD. They don't create buzz, they don't seem ****.

Finally, I do agree that if a coach is going to recruit big time players that announce on NSD that coach better not be left at the alter.

So if Al and Co. want Jackson, Valentine/Gaillard, T. Harris and other 4 stars...don't get left at the alter with your dlck in your hand. Have a back up plan. It appears the only other RB we may sign is Ross and we need another RB too. I would say Ross is the most important recruit left. Many will say Valentine but we have 2 HS seniors committed, we have 2 JUCOs committed and Gaillard left on the board. We hit some good DTs and we have numbers (development is a different question).

There is a difference. Florida has markedly better facilities, plays in the SEC, and...probably doles out some cash. Florida will always recruit well because of that, similar to Texas, LSU, and some other big schools. Kids come to Miami because they're local, and / or because its a dominant program that has been a pipeline, and has strong ties, to the NFL. The latter facet of this program is not there right now. We're not churning out NFL players anymore; we're a middling ACC; and there isn't anything that we do schematically that helps kids get into the league.

This program cannot hire a mediocre, or even marginally good coach. Texas can. So can FSU. We, however, need someone who is REALLY good at recruiting (either or both evaluating and closing) or at coaching them up. If you look at our history, we've had some great coaches -- Schnelly, JJ, Erickson, and Butch. All were GREAT at something or at a combination of things, even Erickson, who was an alcoholic disaster and a bad recruiter, but who could coach them up on offense. Right now, we have a coach who is an organized, diligent recruiter, but not really a great one -- either in evals or in closing. He's clearly a below average Xs and Os coach. As long as this is the case, we're going to be suffering through some tough *** Signing Days, regardless of whether there is a cloud or whether it's sunny as balls.

In addition, during these 17 and 18 y/o's "formative" years, Florida has won and been relevant. They were awful this season, but that's after missing the NC game last season by a loss. We haven't been an elite program or a wildly successful program in some time.

We need to win and give these kids hope or evidence that the program is on the rise. Instead, we're getting slammed by Louisville.

It was pretty evident that Golden was using the "cloud" to mask his failures. I'm sure it had some affect mainly on the 2012 class, but no where near what he was making it out to be. Now that its gone, its become clear he doesn't have a handle on south florida recruiting.

He's quickly running out of excuses.
