The Bank (6/25)

I’ve always been optimistic on him. But at the same time, I know it’s a battle. He’s visited three times, he likes it here and we are an Adidas school. We have a lot of advantages. But every school that deals with him likes their chances- he’s a positive kid.
Adidas has nothing to do with his recruitment

It appears to me that Mario is not prioritizing DT like he has OT. Championship cannot be won without elite DT play. This must change. We can’t lose both JJ and Lamar Brown. We must snag one.
Lol your assumption is that because it's not looking great that we can get probably the top 2 DT in the country that Mario is not "prioritizing" the position.
Man, most of you on this board are something else.
The other thing I love is the demand to "up the bag" to get em when most on here have never donated one cent to the collective yet.
Plus, maybe sometimes ppl make decisions in life that aren't 100% about money and have another plan than what we want for them.
Trust me Mario and staff know the importance of DT as well as all positions and are trying their best to get top talent at all positions. Just because they don't get everyone we want doesn't mean he didn't try his best.

Do you think we add anything else at LB or just hope for the best in the portal?
Uncommitted TOP LB prospects:
- Atkinson and Griffin are 1 and 2, and are likely to go UGA and Bama.
- Izayiah Williams has committed to like 20 teams and currently committed to Ole Miss. I'm sure if we offered a big bag he'd choose us. But seems that would just be a dumb investment. I'd bet he flips back to UF by end of year when they try to save their recruiting class.
- Tj White is LB5, from mississippi, and likely picking UTenn or a mississippi school (like if Izayah williams fliips from Ole Miss)
- Brayden Rouse is LB7, and is likely picking Utenn or Texas
- Jordan Campbell is LB8 and committed to us. So We already have a top 10 lb and top 150 overall prospect at LB. Only like UGA and maybe UTenn/USC are currently projected to even have two top 15 LBs. And outside the top 15 lbs you're talking not even top 250 prospects anymore and are back to fringe 88-90rated lb prospects....

After those you're back to like:
- Malik Morris, lb13. Currently uncommitted, but from Lakeland..
- Julian Manson, lb15. who is from Iowa and committed to Iowa. But he's also <200lbs so I'm sure there'd be a lot of *****ing
- Jamichael Garrett, who is also undersized and we just had on an OV and seems like we decided to pass on
- Kosi Okpala, lb19. From Texas. Unless Texas wins like the Griffin battle over Bama and/or another Itd be a tough pull, and he's now coming off a UT OV and Committing on July 3rd.
- DQ Forkpa lb25. Seems we are fully in this battle. Probably just a Big3 battle.
- Tamarion Watkins s32 but we've been recruiting as LB.

After those groups which probalby would only even be considered OKay at best by CIS LBgurus, you have the more depth adds like:
- Adam Balogoun-Ali?
- Maybe Taking another look at Karon Maycock currently committed to FSU, but has visited here a bunch, and obviously plays for Central.
- JJ Bush. From alabama, none of the bama schools after him. Currently has only OVed Tulane. But currently predicted LSU.

So I mean unless we go back around to like Henry Ohlinger at LB trying to flip him from Indiana.... Everyone else at LB is mostly locked in aside from the names we keep hearing we're already on. I think we just need to hope we land one of Okpala or Forkpa, or turn to landing Watkins.

I’ve always been optimistic on him. But at the same time, I know it’s a battle. He’s visited three times, he likes it here and we are an Adidas school. We have a lot of advantages. But every school that deals with him likes their chances- he’s a positive kid.
With all the dt recruiting going on and situations unfolding are we recruiting Kendall Guervill kids a monster haven’t seen anything about us with him

I mean I think we have been recruiting him and like Deuce Geralds... but doesn't seem like we've had all that much traction.

We’re doing really well. I do not want to be a crab in the bucket but I am worried about DT and LB recruiting. It’s a soft spot on this team rn and has to turn into a strength. Only way back to the top is with DTs. Look back over the last 20 years. Almost all the natty champs had at least one top tier dt or two.

Long post from perplexity @Lance Roffers @DMoney

Over the past 25 college football national championship winners (from the 2000 season through the 2024 season), a significant number have had a starting defensive tackle drafted in the first three rounds of the NFL Draft. Based on the available data and specific examples from recent years:

- **2024 Ohio State**: Michael Hall Jr., a starting defensive tackle, was drafted in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft[1].
- **2023 Michigan**: Kris Jenkins, a starting defensive tackle, was drafted in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft[1].
- **2022 Georgia**: Travon Walker, a starting defensive tackle, was the first overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft[2].
- **2021 Georgia**: Jordan Davis and Devonte Wyatt, both starting defensive tackles, were drafted in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft (not shown in the search results, but widely documented).
- **2020 Alabama**: Christian Barmore, a key defensive tackle, was drafted in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft[3].

From the code result, which analyzed a sample of five recent champions, four had a starting defensive tackle drafted in the first three rounds. This trend is consistent with the broader pattern observed over the past 25 years, as many championship teams feature elite defensive line talent that transitions early to the NFL.

**Summary Table (Recent Examples):**

| Year | Champion | Starting DT Drafted in Top 3 Rounds? |
|------|--------------|--------------------------------------|
| 2024 | Ohio State | Yes (Michael Hall Jr., Round 2) |
| 2023 | Michigan | Yes (Kris Jenkins, Round 2) |
| 2022 | Georgia | Yes (Travon Walker, Round 1) |
| 2021 | Georgia | Yes (Jordan Davis, Devonte Wyatt, Round 1) |
| 2020 | Alabama | Yes (Christian Barmore, Round 2) |

**Estimate for the Past 25 Champions:**
While the exact number for all 25 years requires a detailed year-by-year roster and draft analysis, the available data and the code sample suggest that approximately 80% (or 20 out of 25) of national champions had a starting defensive tackle drafted in the first three rounds. The code result, using a small sample, found 4 out of 5 champions fit this criterion. This is consistent with the reputation of championship teams for having elite defensive line talent.

**Conclusion:**
Of the past 25 football national championship winners, it is estimated that about 20 had a starting defensive tackle drafted in the first three rounds of the NFL Draft, illustrating the importance of elite interior defensive line play in championship success.

You’ve been the only one consistently bringing up Adidas when it comes to Keys since his very first visit months ago. Why do you think the Adidas angle plays such a big role in his recruitment compared to other high school athletes? Historically, it hasn’t seemed to matter much. Even this cycle, Miami’s pushing hard for Tyler Atkinson (who’s also with Adidas), and he’s only visiting Nike schools.

Plus, any NIL deal he gets directly from Adidas is likely pennies compared to what schools will offer both on and off record. So I’m really curious: do you think Keys is just wired differently, or is there something unique about his connection to Adidas that’s actually influencing this more than we typically see? And if Tennessee ends up making the switch to Adidas, how do you think that shifts the dynamic?
