So what the consensus on the factors that keep us out of that top group each year? There are always a handful of teams we’ll never catch because they have too many 5*, crazy high average ratings, etc.

Our head coach was hired because he can recruit and build the lines, if nothing else. I’m not down on him, I’m just asking what will get us over the hump.

Is it simply lack of recent success? Or do we not have the $ to get into that top group? Is our staff very good but not great at recruiting? Do we not have the following to incentivize the recruiting services to bump our guys? I’m guessing some combo but curious what those in the know thing.

Again, we’ve done well. I’m not arguing we haven’t. We’re certainly in it for more whales than before, and we’ve landed some monsters. But we’re not regularly loading up on the elite guys like the top schools that always seem to be in that top 5 area.

Can we get there? Is it a matter of time, or is that probably not in the cards for us for some reason(s).

We get in a little vacuum here from time to time but knowing people at other programs they do look at us like we must be buying all of our recruits or Mario is just elite

We really have no business beating the Ohio State/UGAs of the world for players although people do acknowledge Miami would be a **** of a fun place for a kid to go to college

But even if that is true it’s important we don’t set the bar too low as fans and settle for things just because they should/could be worse

Feels like this is the first time where the program is really interested in investing and going all in so we can’t waste it

I think it simply comes down to Miami not being in the SEC or Big Ten. Miami and Clemson are 1A and 1B when it comes to recruiting rankings for teams outside the P2. I think Mario is doing the best job he can do recruiting wise as it pertains to Miami still being in the ACC. It's just a hard sell to the top recruits to not play in the SEC or Big Ten.

Good point. Not sure how that’s gonna shake out over time, but we’re clearly fighting with one arm tied behind our back on the conference front right now.

Don't get me wrong, but 4 sounds better than 3. And I expect to lose at least 1 to portal… But even then 3 in 24, 3 in 25, 3 in 26…If we lose one to portal that's 8, then you hit the portal for 1 or 2.

Taking 3 HS WRs is literally dumb as **** planning, plain and simple.

We have literally 6 guys we should be putting any weight at all on them returning - Trader, Carr, Chance, Toney, Moore, Upshaw. And Chance has never stayed healthy more than a week...

Imagine not taking a 4th WR out of HS because you have Ray Ray entering his final yr of eligibility next yr lol. What are the actual odds he doesn't transfer out?

And to make it worse even if Ray Ray does return and wasn't completely beat out by Toney this season, you still only would have 10 WRs and still NEED another 2+ portal WRs. If we are moving to 105 scholarships there is no reason whatsoever we should ever have less than 12 WRs on this roster. Id prefer the strategy of loading up on HS assuming you eventually lose a couple every year or other year and only going for 1 portal Piece when necessary - and that being a top player not having to get guys like Anthony Johnson.

There will be 2-4 walk-ons awarded schollies, and we'll likely play in the low 90s-mid 90s for a year, a little higher next year, etc…JMO

What are the ratings based on?

Well I'd assume how it usually works is they watch some film, look at them perform during camps, and gather their Intel from Hs/college coaches and then assign a number.

Regardless @DMoney reported they view the class as weaker, and I think showing a top 10 or 20 average rating with substantially lower ratings proves his point. Tbh if their ratings are correct, but when he says that's how they view it he's stating a fact. Not some made up perception. And then he has our coaches with their evaluation agreeing. Now maybe our coaches are only grading it based on WRs we have any even minute shot at, and those guys as a whole aren't viewed as highly? Idk.

Excepts even at 85 scholarships at least 10 WRs is still entirely reasonable lol. NFL teams carry 6 WRs usually with a 53 man roster. That would translate to 10 WRs. And with even 95 scholarships 11 is the number. And they don't have players who can portal out literally anytime they want... So again only going into next season with likely 4 WRs you actually expect any production from next yr returning - Trader, Carr, Toney, Moore... And you only plan on signing 3? That is straight dumb.

We are set to have 9…I'd say we lose 1 to the portal, so add 2 from the portal next year

And I agree with you I think 4 is a better number than 3, no doubt. And I would welcome as many as we can get. BUT…To go ape**** because we aren't adding 6-7 like you said is a bit of an overreaction. 3 + 1-2 portal isn't the end of the world.

No clue what we are doing at receiver and the last bank sounded bad too. We were banking on a legacy and a five star from Mississippi. And then Lopez. Not to mention Lopez and Russell both want to play hoops and what coach Lucas supposed to do? Keep tossing charity to Kevin beard? Get outta here. No the 4th wr isn’t going to be what makes us a national champion or not. But imagine using our current portal wr class as the proof that that strategy works lol. What if Chance and Ray Ray portal put? What if Carr does given he literally already entered his name in portal before? What if one of the guys in the 25 class left cause they felt they got beat out? That is why it would be dumb as **** planning to PLAN to only take 3 HS WRs. We need to take 4 absolute bare minimum, but 5 would be much better.

Not planning for attrition when we are moving to 105 scholarships would be brain dead, and just put us in this same position next yr or year after where we NEED to get 3 portal WRs and 1 or 2 aren’t the quality we want

No. Because they literally failed at it last year. How can anyone look at our WR room and think 3 HS WRs is enough. You’d have to be dumb and give absolutely zero thought to any of the guys with remaining eligibility portalling out. Same thing at RB. We needed 2. Then what was the situation? Puts you in a box where you MUST land in portal and when you miss your ****ed

And again I don't think anyone is disagreeing with you that they we'd like more than 3 and I'm sure the staff wouldn't turn down a talented 4th. The point being as long as they hit portal and go into next season with somewhere around 9-10, it's not as dire as you are making it out to be.
