I am sure Beard is a nice guy and a good WR coach like most of his predecessors. He gets quality WRs- he’s been better than others but I don’t think he is capable of getting the top WR in the country in any year, even if we have the most $$$ on the table. Takes a little more to get the very best of the best. We haven’t had a monster recruiter at WR in who knows how long and it’s not a position where Cristobal can pick up the slack.

Hartline is an Ohio guy, played at Ohio State and just became OC with play calling duties.

You think he would leave that to be WR coach and OC in waiting here? Lol
 
Spafford and Lopez are great gets, if Mario can land their commitments. Evans’ film did not impress me at all.

Beard has shown that he can develop talent, and he’s recruited really well up to this point. Jojo, Carr, Toney, Upshaw, Moore, etc. are all very talented young WR that I expect to be impact players, if not stars as they develop.

Give Mario time to work his magic. There might yet be a surprise at WR, but as @Brooklyndee previously stated, development is the most important part. Nobody thought that Restrepo, George and Horton would be impact players, and all 3 of them were. Restrepo wasn’t drafted due to his poor 40-yard dash time, which was compounded by the fact that he had a hamstring injury. All of the reports coming out of TN Titans camp is that he’s killing it.

A lot of the board called AR15 slow when he committed to us and said that he ran a 4.5 40. Then the majority of the board called X a jag and majorly disrespected him as a FR. Most on this board were claiming that Ray Ray Joseph was gonna take his spot as a FR. Joseph still hasn’t done crap and looks like the real jag. Most of this board loved Pope just because he was a 5-Star, and I never saw it.

As @IndayArtHauz once stated, I’m glad that I don’t know most you in real life.

I think being drafted is part of the equation. However, I think the QB thing is over blown....

Who is playing QB for LSU next year that is so attractive?

When our NFL production catches up, our recruiting will not only become stronger, but it will be easier.
It's obviously not the only factor these kids look for. But when LSU can point to Thomas, Nabers, Jefferson and Chase, it makes things a lot easier for them

I’m not disagreeing with that. But we are coming off the number one offense last season and an elite passing attack.

He’s also struggled landing the top guys in the portal as well. I don’t believe Beard is a bad recruiter. The question is, do we believe he can land guys against the big boys.

Based on Mario’s approach to coach’s performance in recruiting, I’d wager Beard probably moves on this after this season.

Idk about attractive, but Michael Van Buren is likely next man up.

Man there are some wild takes on this thread. Hire away Hartline so he can be our WR coach? KB can't recruit? I mean I can grasp the theme - some of us would like more from our WR recruiting. Is the overreaching hyperbole really all that necessary? Oh yeah, it's CiS, so I guess it is sort of necessary.

Here's the thing. Not all 5 stars are created equally. Calvin Russell is a five star just like Lord and Savior Jeremiah Smiff was. Is anyone really expecting Calvin to put up 1300+ yards next year along with 15 TDs? Assuming Calvin doesn't sign with Northeast Oklahoma State, no way that's happening. I'll go so far as to say he's likely not playing much at all next year, assuming he signs with a top tier program.

I think many folks on this board have expectations that are beyond Ludacris (move *****). It's the people who are always asking why we don't have more 320 lb War Daddy DTs....it's because they don't exist. At least not in large numbers. There are between 2 and 5 of them per year and every single school wants them.

OK, throw your rotten fruit at me now.
 
You cannot define Beard by a single recruit's decision. WR play was very good last year.

Anyways, these 17, 18 y/o kids have seen Miami stink it up for a long time. We had a fun year last year and I'm quite optimistic about this year and beyond but it's going to take time to build up our reputation where we're a known commodity again.

I’m in now way shape or form defending Beard. He obviously can’t out pitch LSU on NFL production and development, which is one reason why they have the advantage. The one area he can pitch is our passing attack/system, which he can’t seem to do. To me it’s simple, all Beard has to say is “We just had the number one offense with the body types of George, X, and Brown; Imagine what we can do with you in our offense.” He’s either not saying that, or recruits aren’t buying into that. Mario should either get Beard some help, or find someone to replace him
