That was Miami style defense.

For people that don't understand defensive concepts. Sometimes the Sam backer will be aligned
Over the slot back. He is not covering him 1 on 1, maybe rerouting him and dropping curl/flat.

Watch KC Chiefs and you'll see Justin Houston lining up there sometimes.

And as far as DT's dropping in coverage - it's called zone-blitz and you're bringing extra men from
One side and the DT helps with any cros/slants/hooks over the middle.

I'm not a fan of the way our D has performed the last few years, but those are standard concepts that
You will see in a 3-4 hybrid D.

If I was a DC at Miami I would prefer the 4-2-5 based on the talent we choose from, but our D is what
it is.

yeah sure lets give donofrio and folden the benefit of the doubt because they have an excellent track record when it comes to defense. we just cant see their genius because we dont understand defensive concepts.

You can't brag too much about this game. Bragging about what you accomplished in this game is like bragging after fighting the punk in school. You were supposed to kick his ***. If you didn't you were going to get laughed at. You win on the scoreboard on this game but that's it. There's nothing else to really hang your hat on because you were supposed to thrash them. Having said that, I am worried about our offense. We didn't establish the run very well, specially before the rain delay and there were no big plays.

We didn't establish the run well but yet we averaged 7.8 yards per carry? Man whatever fans on this site b*tch about anything had Miami gave up 16 like fsu did yall would have had a field day trashing the team. Give credit where it's due. It's certainly due here...

We were 2-10 at one point on third downs against BCC. Let that sink in. That doesn't worry you? I think you're so desperate for something to hang your hat on that you're lowering the standard. Stop lowering the standard.

The approach will be to go balls to the wall on defense against teams like BCC and revert back to passive garbage defense against the teams with a pulse. Then F A G will tout the skewed defensive stats in order to justify retaining Doritos.

LULZ at bragging about yardage totals in a 50 minute game against Bethune Cookman. This is like an Onion article.

When's the last time we held anybody to a 80-150 yardage total?

Anybody!

FAMU had 124 yards on us last year. MAJOR DEFENSEIVE PROGRESS!

FAMU won 3 games last year.
You think that abortion of a team we played last night is any better than last year's famu team? They aren't.

I fought a 6 month old baby this morning. I looked dominant in dismantling her. Slapped that soft spot until she tapped out.

Pretty sure I redeemed myself at the playground from that sucker punch loss I took to that 6 year old last year. Everyone was cooing when I was putting it down on that little bytch this morning.

I know the parents at that park were mad, but really, when's the last time you held any opponent to that few landed punches? ANY OF EM?

Never. She almost scratched me in the eye when I slapped a rear naked choke on her but that was just me getting too full of myself. I underestimated the flexibility of a baby and almost paid for it. Key word being "almost" because I absolutely dominated.

It's not just that golden and dorito may revert back to being passive they may well not and remain aggressive. But as our opponents get better from a coaching and player standpoint we will see one of Golden's biggest shortcomings and that's halftime adjustments.

I take nothing from this game and neither should anyone else. Not saying you can't be happy, but to have any expectations because of this game is silly. It's the equivalent to a preseason NFL game.

Winners never let off the gas.

You've been goldenized.

I liked it. Corn Elder is our best player in the secondary and possibly on defense. IJS. He's got that Honey Badger feel. Dude is always around the ball.

Being at the Nickel against that offense put him in position to make some plays. Give it to him!! He made the plays without hesitating every time. Not getting ahead of myself but it looked a lot like Antrel Rolle coming off the edge, pressing his man & executing his assignments without taking that split second to think.

How many times did you see press coverage or D Lineman shooting gaps in last years pre season game? That is the only positive thing I take. Coaches always say they don't listen to the outside noise, but the noise on the scheme up front has been too loud to ignore when coming from the entire fan base and a few HOF coaches. (not to mention having to watch that ugly film last few years)

I took a lot of positives from last night.

D looked way more aggressive .
More press
Disguised pressure to last second ( vast improvement )
Players seemed more aware on screens and miss direction
Played zone read well ( we normally struggle with that against everyone

I fully expect this to be our best defense under Alf, plenty of depth and talent . And actually fitting the scheme to the talent .

Now offense , I'm not so sure about . We don't look explosive , Coley still suspect as oc and Kayaa looked erratic.

His team lost 12-2 to MacArthur this week lmao.

I'm not on the staff, ****, I just help out occasionally. Last time I coached against MacArthur my defense didn't allow a 1st down the whole game.
Have fun sitting on your couch though.

So you aren't even good enough At coaching football to be a full time coach at a school that lost 12-2 to The MacArthur Mustangs?

That's exactly what it is, bro! I mean, it couldn't possibly have anything to do with other priorities that I currently have going on in my life, right?! It's simply that I'm not good enough to coach anywhere. I went from having the 9th ranked defense in Broward last year to not even being able to find a coaching position this year. I forgot everything that I knew from all those years of producing top-10 defenses during my past positions at Western.

True or false, you are apart of a coaching staff that lost 12-2 to MacArthur?

True or fale, you're a soft shouldered beta male who's never been apart of any staff and only sees football from the comfort of his booger infested couch?

If you're gonna be enraged, be enraged that McCord is playing OLB and not DE.

Don't be enraged by a OLB lined-up over a slot WR. That's normal.

If McCord was a starting Defensive End, the other team, no matter who they were, would run at him every single snap.
He's a 236 pound defensive end who is still learning how to be a linebacker.
He has tremendous physical ability, but he is still as raw as can be.
He occasionally makes great plays, but it's the other plays where he constantly runs upfield 5 yards past the qb that hurt us, and hurt him.
You still have to set that edge, especially when **** near every qb we face is a dual threat.

LMAO! at "set that edge". You heard the staff say it one time, and now it's gospel.
McCord made more impact plays His sophomore season, than any DE we have on the roster...COMBINED.

Saw it plenty last year against overmatched teams. Did you forget the beating we put on FAMU? Or that 3 game stretch?

All the fantasy football nerds are on that "set the edge" lingo. Makes them feel like they really know football when they bust out those high-level buzz words.

@ 'chise
We did. I'll inhale the green and orange one time. Since we're talking about a top 15 total defense from last year, are you saying this is potentially a championship caliber defense? If No D produces a defense ranked in the top 15 in points (off to a great start), turnovers and third down conversions there's hope after all.

But, before we get ahead of ourselves, lets see if No D can cure our run defense, first. No D hasn't stopped anybody who was somebody from running the ball down our throats. If that continues, forget it we're not doing a **** thing. On the flip side, if he produces a top 15 run defense, to go along with the others mentioned, it is about that business!

I'll add this. Money down vs money coverage. Last year No D ran some man-2 as his get off the field coverage. The UNC game I think we saw man-1. Lets see if man-1 is the primary money coverage. I hope it is.

Lmao at " Booger infested couch", I thought I was the only one who had those.

Lots of FBS teams played FCS teams for their first game of the season, yet in spite of yet, nobody allowed fewer passing yards than Miami this week.

I know you can't put to much emphasis on how they played BC, but with the combination of an excelling DL, a disciplined secondary and some nice open field tackling, I think we could have a potentially good defense on our hands.

Also something to keep in mind...

Defensive rank (yards per game)

2012: 120th (486 yds)
2013: 90th (426 yds)
2014: 14th (328 yds)

And now through only the first game I know, we're ranked 3rd. So while I wouldn't advise getting hyped up just yet, I would say to watch the games against FAU and Nebraska very intently.
