That time we could have had Mullen instead of Golden

The articles seem to have been deleted. However, this MSU article still sites it. Yes, folks. Our idiotic BOT did not want Mullen because of his ego. They are fine with “The U invented Swag” but if your head football coach has an ego, forget it. It does seem in line with our hiring practices. Does this coach mind his Ps and Qs? Address the board with respect and admiration? You’re hired.

Paul Dee hired Randy Shannon because he had such a great interview. Had Randy stumbled through, Dee would have called Gary Patterson. Yup. He didn’t even call the man.

Paul Dee didn't hire Sh*t...that was Shalala's call....

We could've had him twice.

The first famous rejection of him was for his "big ego" and "attitude like he invented football."

Obviously those are terrible personality traits for a head football coach thanks BOT you stupid assh0les.

This is why a qualified athletic director should be making these decisions and not a bunch of clueless faqqots who felt attacked by his "toxic masculinity."

He's won 10 games a season in his first two years at UF.

Finished ranked in the top 10 both seasons.

And has had two top-10 classes (6 right now) even with people claiming he couldn't recruit.

lol don't want bro.

Knew Mullen was a good hire for ufaq. I wanted them to get over rated chip and DM fell in their laps man. He did well at MSU good QB play and found ol and dl without the brand.
I don't like him but he isn't too bad....it's way better then what we have. And leadership up top wants to win can't say the same **** here. He can't win a title though cause LSU Bama and UGA in his way.

1. He chose Felipe.
2. His recruiting classes are inflated by players who never play.
3. His wife making out with dudes in the team is weird.
4. Still hasn't beat Georgia
5. Literally almost out corched himself in the Miami game.

While he might be a slight upgrade...he's not THE coach. Plus he's corny AF.

Would have beaten UNC, GT, FIU, and Duke.

LMFAO at two top 10 recruiting classes. I guess you said it so it must be true.

And now we see why the school doesn't go for a better coach. Perfection is the enemy of improvement. I love that there are people in this thread complaining about the glass being half empty. Why splurge on a better coach and risk a guy with an attitude problem when people will whine about him "Not beating Georgia" or our previous coach "Not beating Florida." If the fans are going to complain either way, why not hire the cheap guy that is polite?

I remember being told he rubbed people the wrong way, very arrogant and acted as if he was the smartest guy in the room. I’m like well how else would you want your coach to act? Meek and unsure of himself?

Dude is a really good coach, not sure if he’s a natty type but he’ll keto you in the top 10-20 every year at Florida.

If I remember correctly, I wasn't pushing for Mullen to replace Coker, but I was calling for him and about 5 other coaches, when they hired Golden and I definitely wanted him when they got lazy again and hired Richt.

Patterson was the great blunder. We hire him back then and we're on #8 by now.

Ehhh you guys would get real sick of Mullen before long too. He has a hard ceiling.

The next National Championship winning coach is not walking through the Hecht Center door. Drop that dream. Right now we need a builder who can win the Coastal regularly, win bowl games and get 10 or more wins. After we establish that, we can start complaining about coach ceilings.

It's hard to argue with the results on the field. Mullen made Mississippi St. competitive (a feat in its own right), and has now managed to turn UF around when I didn't think it could be done so quickly. And that recruiting class he is bringing in this year, I wouldn't mind us having those offensive and defensive linemen he is getting. Weird guy for sure, but at least he doesn't settle for mediocrity.

Yep. The first time I was really intrigued by him but I could see a legit program waiting a bit longer. I didn’t realize how broken we were at the time.

The second time was a huge miss.
