That time we could have had Mullen instead of Golden

The next National Championship winning coach is not walking through the Hecht Center door. Drop that dream. Right now we need a builder who can win the Coastal regularly, win bowl games and get 10 or more wins. After we establish that, we can start complaining about coach ceilings.
And I don't know why everyone assumes that would be Mullen? In fact every time his name is mentioned around here when we're looking for a new coach people lose their **** minds and threaten ritual seppuku if we got Mullen.. So it's pretty funny watching everyone lamenting that he didn't come here.

Whatever. It's not like Dan Mullen is some kind of coaching genius. He's OK but Miami can and should do better.

Our problem is Blake James, the admin, and the fact that we hire the WORST coaches imaginable.

We could've had him twice.

The first famous rejection of him was for his "big ego" and "attitude like he invented football."

Obviously those are terrible personality traits for a head football coach thanks BOT you stupid assh0les.

This is why a qualified athletic director should be making these decisions and not a bunch of clueless faqqots who felt attacked by his "toxic masculinity."

He was cited for using too many gender-specific pronouns.
Rubbed the BOT the wrong way, especially the ones with the funny colored hair.

I think he is about as good as we could get, winning that many games in a real conference.
Meanwhile, in the ACC intraCoastal, or whatever it's called.

Actually, no. Miami can not do better. Sorry. The best coaching hire this millennium was Richt and he won us our first bowl game in a decade, first division title in school history and first 10 win season in 13 years. Maybe with a few more hires like Richt and Mullen, Miami can worry about the better coach, but right now, no legit coach is moving into the career suicide that our program is.

He's won 10 games a season in his first two years at UF.

Finished ranked in the top 10 both seasons.

And has had two top-10 classes (6 right now) even with people claiming he couldn't recruit.

lol don't want bro.

Doesn’t run Bro Style, Bro

Rich Rodriguez sucks too bro. Michigan sucked bro.

The articles seem to have been deleted. However, this MSU article still sites it. Yes, folks. Our idiotic BOT did not want Mullen because of his ego. They are fine with “The U invented Swag” but if your head football coach has an ego, forget it. It does seem in line with our hiring practices. Does this coach mind his Ps and Qs? Address the board with respect and admiration? You’re hired.

Paul Dee hired Randy Shannon because he had such a great interview. Had Randy stumbled through, Dee would have called Gary Patterson. Yup. He didn’t even call the man.

we could have had fill in the blank over Diaz as well but we didnt do a search.

WHO CARES about the past. Everyone here either loves to hang on to the glory days or cry about the past 2 decades. Lets move forward

If my aunt had ********S she'd be my uncle. It's sad that the moral is reaching a low of lows

You forgot Strawley.....as a SJW, there was no way Mullen was ever going to get hired, and she is in charge of football operations.

LOL, we would've been in ACCCG 2 years in a row with Mullen, that dude is legit.

Yep. We would be winning the games we're supposed to win. This year 10 plus wins.

The reactions on this board against it are because he's at UF. If he was anywhere else there would be more objectivity. Instead, he's compared to Urban Meyer or Saban, rather than a guy who would raise the level of our program to be in the ACC conference game every year.

The intellectual incest is laughable.

Moving forward, based on past events:
Manny Diaz will be prematurely extended. Then fired with several years on his contract. His replacement will be a G5 coach. His replacement will have a ceiling of 9 wins and never win the Coastal. Then he will be fired and replaced by a fired Power 5 coach who will actually win the Coastal.

Word around here is that Mullen is cool as ****. Very likeable guy and it's paying off in recruiting.

I remember having a huge argument with a lot of you fvckers on here about Mullen when he was at MSU.

"WTF has he ever done at Mississippi State bro?!"
"He can't win his conference bro!"

MF'er made MSU competitive, which is more than anybody has ever done for that irrelevant program.
10 wins in each of his first 2 seasons at UF. Most likely he's only going up from here. He'd likely do even better at Miami cause our schedule is a fvckin' joke. He'd likely have us undefeated right now. (or at worst a 1-loss team)

Is he Saban/Dabo/Urban echelon? Very doubtful. I don't think so. But that's not what we need. We need(ed) a guy to awaken the program. Make us respectable. Get us in the top-10 yearly. Then recruiting takes off and even a clown can compete for NC's at that point.

In the next year or so he's going to make a run in the SEC, even if it's a result of a "down" year @ UGA or whatever these mopes will spin it as, they'll still leverage the fück out of it while we're struggling to raise money for billboards and banners.

True, doesn't make him the guy. Let's aim a little higher than "better than what we have".

Why is he not, "the guy"? Serious question. He's won 10 games in the SEC his first two seasons. What echelon of coach does that make him? Who's better-- Saban, Dabo and Meyer? Would he not have us in the ACC-CG 3/5 years or better?

A coach who averages 10 wins and plays for his P5 conference championship at least 60% of the time is likely a Top 10 coach. So who are we looking for? The guys that's even money to win it all every year? OK, there's 3 names, and they aren't coming to Miami. Every other name you guys tell me is a corch whenever their defense gets beat for a long TD. This is where the CIS coaching searches go in circles.
