You're bumping comparisons from 2015? He was already here and playing college football.

He doesn't run like Cooper at all, but from a talent standpoint it's comparable.

Yea Graig was athletic enough to be on returns.

Yearby though would never trip on a blade of grass like Coop did .....Mans may have left 300+ yards on the field being tackled by no one throughout his career.

100% agree.

Cooper's Pre-ACL numbers are almost identical to Yearby & Parrish (I completely agree on that comp)

IMO - All 3 are very similar talents and it's just a matter of preference on how you rank them.

I always appreciate our back & forths! You've got your finger on the pulse of SFL football.

For Martinez I said back in April:

I prefer talent-level vs style comps - and there I completely I agree with you (on the Chuba Hubbard comp). IMO Martinez has legit lower-end starting NFL RB ability like Hubbard. But Hubbard is 210/4.48 where as Martinez is more a 230/4.60 type. I think of Martinez as more of a highly effective North/South thumper - like a Carlos Hyde or Samaje Perine.

For Lyle:

I like him, I just don't love him. I'm more in the "he's ok" category. I feel very confident he'll be a solid RB for us. I just don't think he has that extra juice in any one of the 3 areas where RB's win - Speed, Size/Power, Moves/Elusiveness. I see him more in the Yearby/Walton/Cam/Parrish talent level mold. But I hope he gets to the Homer/Dallas level.

IMO - if you're thinking of Lyle as the On3 #1 RB #37 player in this class (NFL Day 2 type of RB) - you're going to be disappointed. If you're thinking of him as the 247 #15 RB #236 player in this class (NFL Late Day 3/UFA type of RB) - that's more in line with my thoughts/expectations. I'm open to be him being better than that and will be happily surprised if he is. You can call me out for jumping on the bandwagon.

For SFL RB recruits:

I would've preferred Chauncey Bowens to Lyle in this class, and I like Byron Louis in this class.

I don't like making style comparisons and rarely do it because they almost always sound stupid to me (more on that coming up - I've got something you're REALLY going to like!).

The style comps aren't a shot at you - I feel that way whenever I'm watching NFL Draft stuff. The style comparisons usually sound completely ridiculous to me.

True this is after Yearby's Freshman year - so I had a year to watch. But the point is - I'm still arguing vs an Admin about Yearby not being Warrick Dunn AFTER his freshman year.

The general response I got to comping Yearby to Cooper was "that's insulting to Yearby"

If you want to know how I feel about Yearby, here's how I ranked these RB's back in 2013. Funny Note - NO ONE ranked Cook above Duke. Plenty ranked Yearby over Cook.

100%. When comparing Yearby to those RB's - we were definitely on the same page.

I wasn't really agreeing with the Bernard/Freeman comps. I was saying they were closer/better than Duke/Dunn/LeSean McCoy.

But yes - at that time I could see Bernard/Freeman as a legit comp. Now with hindsight...I think they're nowhere close and that was a bad comp. So I'd say we were both wrong there.

I was definitely much nicer in my posts back them. I'm much more jaded now.

For context - Devonta Freeman hadn't blown up in the NFL yet and was more a #2/3 type RB vs a Pro-Bowl RB.

Where we differ is - you expected Yearby to have a Bishop Sankey (2nd RD) Devonta Freeman (4th RD) type career whereas I was expecting more Graig Cooper (Undrafted).

whats crazy is if u look up im kinda comping lyle to hubbard.

Whenever i watched Hubbard i remember when someone brought him to the board while he was in canada about to come to the states hes sort of a straight line guy...not that elusive but can get to the hole in a hurry...not extremely physical but kind of slithery. Thats Jordan to me ...i think he can get up to the same weight as Chubba..if he can gain in the speed department that would be kind of good.

Disclaimer...i dont think Mario will ever have a bell cow so we will always have rb by committee and guys under 1k rushing so it will be harder to determine ability to group a guy with yearby or walton when they kind of was eating up alot of carries.

247 is the only rankings i use.
Chauncey Bowens i liked...and ima Byron Louis fan...though off jr film i put the mcknight kid above him talent wise.

Heres to Jordan Lyle getting up to Dallas/Homer level i tried to tell guys he was bigger than he was listed at and he has the frame to add weight... DMONEY was able to see him early on and he appeared bigger to him than he was expecting (pause0

I’m no RB guru but the last time you mentioned Hyde I thought that was spot on. I knew more about him when he got to SF but he was very underrated. He had some good years for some dog**** teams I can absolutely see the comp
 
funny thing is...i consider carlos hyde a south florida back being from Naples n all. Naples/fortmyers i consider s.fla anything north of those begins sw fla for me

But our overall recruiting at that time was so bad esp against jimbo
That we had to hope that he would develelop into a stud but he was a complete waste

I get the Lyle/Hubbard size comparisons, but that's where I see it ending IMO. I see Lyle as a high 4.5 guy vs a 4.4 guy. Winning with speed won't be his game in college. Hubbard also had a season where he gained 2,000 yds on 6.4 ypc. IMO that's setting expectations way too high for Lyle. I see him in the 5.0-5.4 ypc range.

I think Martinez will be a workhorse RB this year. IMO he didn't come to Miami to be part of a committee. He should get 200+ carries easy. I think Martinez is on another level up from a healthy Fletcher, and that's why he was brought in - for us to level up.

My main point in RB recruiting is not get stuck in the SFL bubble. Thinking there will be a stud RB in SFL every year has hurt us - because there's only been 1 since 2017 (James Cook). And really none that we would've recruited since 2014.

It hasn't worked yet - but going anywhere in the US to get a stud RB is the move IMO. Citizen (LA) Riley (AL), getting Martinez as a transfer. SFL will always have good RB's to get our stable up, but the studs - go wherever you need to for those.

We probably just have different definitions of "studs". IMO Duke & Lamar are the last 2 studs we've had - and Fletcher isn't in their category.

I'm not saying Fletcher is off the table - but from what I've seen he's still got a ways to go.

In general - you're more generous with SFL & Miami RB's than I am. And as I've said - I think our SFL RB's abilities have been overrated for a while now.

But we're overdue. We'll eventually get one. Keep saying it and it's bound to be right at some point.
 
I think as south Florida offenses have become more and more pass happy, a lot of the super athletes that might have played running back in the past are playing receiver now. I don’t blame them either. You take much less of a beating and are far more likely to get drafted early as a WR than a RB.
