Temple to build a football stadium

You can buy a house for $1 in delapidated Philly, not so much in Coral Gables.

Bunch of self inflated idiots in CG who seem to think their little city is some world renowned jewel. It seems that way to them because the rest of the county is a sht hole. UM is unfortunate to be located in the pompous waste of space.

What is wrong with Tropical Park?

Perhaps if we built on the Old Zoo, which we actually ***ing owned it could have worked.

The park would be ideal but the county seems to not want it. They could gain a lot from putting a stadium the size they need there. There is no real push from anybody who matters. UM has no juice.

you're right, we just seem to know what dilapidated means. This is North Philly.

They already have the land right on/near campus. This has been planned a while.

the only feasible location for a 30-35k seat stadium is tropical park. it would work. the tract of lands is the same size as sunlife and it has direct access to the 826. i think we could fill that up pretty easy.

alternatively a smaller site that may work is the ad doug barnes park, that would require parking garage structures.

UM's endowment is almost half a billion dollars larger than Temple's too. I'm not interested in some shill for the admin and/or Shalala rolling out that stale definition of what an endowment is why that figure is inexplicably not reflective at all of our ability to pursue a stadium. At the end of that day it DOES reflect the overall economic power of your institution.

You know what would appease the fanbase? UM actively exploring and showing public desire to do something at Tropical Park or a realistic joint venture with Beckham. Instead we get total passivity always accompanied by copout talk like "We're always open to any ideas that'd improve our gameday experience...". It's just not a real priority which is completely different from not being feasible or even reasonable.

All Temple needs to do is tear down the burnt out row houses in West Philly, then build a new stadium.

Temple is not in West Philly. It's in North Philly. There's plenty of clapped out areas in both.

Clearly CG is not the same BUT there has got to be some area in Miami that could be "improved" by leveling a bunch of homes and projects to bring a stadium with a few jobs and vastly increased taxes for city and county governments. All we need is some heartless, shady politicians and a BOT member with major construction connections. Hum, where could we find any people like that?

Temple is in Philly, a much larger, more urban, more crowded city than Miami

So how come the canes can't do it?

I went to Temple, and lived in Philly most of my life. The State of Pennsylvania and the City of Philadelphia are interested in razing as much of the ghetto surrounding Temple, as possible. They are working in concert. For decades they've been pushing for the continued expansion/encroachment of the Temple campus into the surrounding ghetto, as a means of urban renewal. I'm not saying that's necessarily bad.

However, outside of 6 home games per year, it is unlikely to get any other use. The taxpayers will be thoroughly soaked for its upkeep.

Right now, Lincoln Financial Field (where the Eagles play) is a 20-minute subway ride from Temple, and in a good neighborhood.

We can do the same here. There is a small ghetto areas just west of 57 ave in South Miami that in sure they would be happy to get rid of. However, as others have said, it's not a priority for this school and it's BOT.

What are they gonna do when Matt Rhule rolls out to a bigger program, as the last two coaches have done.

Then, they'd find themselves stuck with a D'Onobrio coaching replacement that wins for the first year, then sucks a couple of years into his tenure and into perpetuity.

Fan apathy comes back and now they have a new stadium they can't fill...and they go broke.

If they're gonna do this stadium, they'd better raise Matt Rhule salary significantly, get him all locked in, and add a large buyout clause to his contract.

Why would you assume that there isn't already a guy on staff under Rhule that can step in? It's Temple for God's sake...Al Golden did great there!

Temple is a very large institution that receives state funds as a "state-related" university. It is not comparable to Miami in any way, shape, or form.

Hurricanes dont need a stadium..

if you think we were selling out games at the OB. youd be gravely mistaken.

Who said we sold out at the OB? You either don't attend games or live in Broward if you think we don't need a stadium. SLS is hurting this program in more ways than one.

Then please explain why other private schools have their own stadium. Stop making excuses for Miami. I am pretty sure the only schools without a stadium are Miami, Pitt and Temple. I could be missing one or two but how is this acceptable?

I like the Marlins, but they are the reason this happened. Now we are one of like 3 programs in division 1 football who does not have our own stadium. To anybody with a brain....this is obviously hurting our program in recruiting.

I am pretty sure that the universities endowment cannot be used for building a football stadium...but honestly I am not 100% certain of that.

It's never an apples-to-apples situation, though. Private schools like ND and BC have always had stadiums on campus, dating back to the beginnings of their football team. Vandy's stadium has been around since 1922. Cuse has had the Carrier dome since the late 70s/early 80s. Tulane had an on-campus stadium in the 30s and 40s, then moved to the Superdome, and recently rebuilt a stadium on the grounds of their old on-campus facility.

During that era, UM was happy to share the OB.

Schools like Baylor, TCU, etc have recently begun to build stadiums because they've had some big donors come through with hundreds of millions of dollars of support. And in Baylor's case, even the city of Waco pitched in several million dollars. Good luck finding big-time donors for UM to do the same.
