Temple Student On Golden

I am a Temple alum (07-11, so I was there during his tenure) and I wrote something similar earlier this year:

I give a lot more credit to what Golden did at Temple though, it was nothing short of miraculous. I still stand behind the gameday coaching.

I notice that in your original post, you said the following:

"By the end of his time there he had far ecplised them in talent yet he was never able to win the Mac."

I don't understand where this idea comes from. As I pointed out, not a single one of his recruiting class ranked better than 4th in the MAC, and 2 of them were near the very bottom.

When people say that Golden was a good recruiter at Temple, I think they mean that he was able to evaluate and pick up the under-the-radar kids that not even other MAC programs wanted, and that he was able to develop that talent into something that could compete for MAC titles. I don't think they mean that he came in and was able to out-recruit his peers in terms of star kids.

I don't think you can really go off recruiting sites when you look at MAC schools (they don't really spend much time evaluating those recruits). With that being said, I just looked at scout rankings and Temple was #1 a few times so I think it just depends where you look at.

I look more at the fact that he had players coming to Temple that had offers from Penn State, Rutgers, and other schools that were far more recognized than Temple. Getting 3 star players was considered a pretty big win and he got a decent number of them. I also remember most recruiting experts saw Golden as one of the top recruiters in the MAC.

Golden left before he could see his higher ranked recruiting class matured.

Not getting how any Temple student is complaining about Golden.. Hope you ungrateful malcontents lose your sorry *** football program.

In no way shape or form did I complain?? I clearly said what he did at Temple was nothing short of miraculous and that he was one of the best recruiters in the MAC. To clarify, I'm a Golden supporter.

Simply put, he can't and never has beaten a team that was actually good. 8-5 GT last year was his best win as a coach.

He took over a program that's last winning season was 1990, and last bowl appearance was 1979. With a record of 38-151 from 1990 to 2005. The season before he arrived they went 0-11, and 3 years later. Golden takes them to a 9 win season, and 1st bowl appearance 30 years.

Seriously, we are talking about Temple here. This program wasn't contending for anything prior to Golden getting there, and how wacko it is to make statements that he wasn't dominating the MAC. This was probably the worst program around at the time he was hired there, and he did an impressive job getting them to 9 wins in year 3.

Temple looks pretty good this year dont they? Also, looks like Boston College plucked the best coach from Temple. Al wouldn't have been able to beat USC if you gave him Alabama's roster!
