Nobody has generated more buzz this spring than true freshman TE/RB/FB/WR Elija Lofton. The Las Vegas native has played all over the field, making one-handed catches, long runs and other huge plays against the first-team defense. Lofton met with reporters to discuss his first spring at Miami:

His overall impressions of spring: It’s been a blessing to be able to play football, the game I love. I'm just looking up to the big guys like Riley [Williams], Elijah [Arroyo], Cam [McCormick]. They’re teaching me...

Regarding Elija Lofton, Mario was quoted saying:

"That boy can play some football. He can play left, he can play right, don't make no difference. He can block, tackle, score the touch down, snap the ball, and kick the extra point. ****, the boy will fill up the Gatorade cooler, walk the dog, and paint your back porch. I'm telling ya, the boy can plain outplay football."

and he can pass friday night lights GIF

Are we looking at a Duke Johnson type freshman impact or a notch below?

I fear a repeating pattern where unreasonably lofty expectations are thrown on a freshman on Greentree and then when he doesn’t show up and dominate immediately in the first season, people are like “wtf happened?”

So, our Greentree All-Americans since 2019. Only going back 5 years to not make this complicated.

2019: Mark Pope, Nesta Silvera
2020: Mark Pope, One of the five defensive lineman with the last name of Williams
2021: Mark Pope, Leonard Taylor
2022: Jake Garcia, Chase Smith
2023: Cam McCormick, Rueben Bain
2024: Elija Loftin, Marcellius Pulliam

Yikes! Other than Rueben Bain, not a lot of production from our Greentree world beaters. Hope 2024 is accurate for both guys.
