I know he's impressive from a strength, speed, etc point of view. But is he actually a good football player? Can he get open and catch the ball? Same thing with Kellen Wiley. Sure he's a physical specimen (pause), but can he diagnose a play in a split second?
World-class measurables don't mean **** if you can't actually play the position.
I think he's absolutely a good football player. There is a reason he was like on every single posters like top 3-5 favorite recruits in the 25 class lists...
I doubt his competition was anywhere really close to his level in Indiana, but he Was a 2 way player in HS who had
24 - 11 games, 28 catches, 462 yards (16.5 ypc), 5 TDs (and 2 more rushing TDs)... 52 tackles, 17 tfls (10 sacks), 4 ff
23 - 14 games, 35 catches, 743 yards (21 ypc), 6 TDs... 67 tackles, 32 tfls (19 sacks)
22 - 12 games, 34 catches, 468 yards (13.8 ypc), 7 TDs... 55 tackles, 20.5 tfls (12 sacks), 1 ff
Like the receiving stats aren't quite Elijah Lofton level out of Gormon, but they're good and he was going both ways. He has better size and athleticism though.... We'll see. But between Lofton and Schott, I'm very happy with where we are at at TE for the next 3-4 years tbh. Need to keep stacking, especially for depth. But I think these two are continuing our storied TE tradition for sure.
