Targeting

I've mocked the Commentary crew that begs for targeting on every big hit - but **** did we need those heroes tonight.

They had an extra 30+ minutes of OT to reference the non-targeting call. It would have made for glorious viewing.

To me that’s what made it so egregious. Not once did the announcers ever mention a potential targeting.

They had like 30 OTs and the producers knew this was blowing up online but the agenda was clear to not tait the potential UGA comeback.

How many times have we seen them show a montage of the big plays in the fourth explaining how we got here during one of the OTs? Don’t think they did that here. Wonder why

It's not fair at all but if you want a targeting call, the ball carrier has to sell it by laying out and staying still.

Especially with an officiating crew that's already clearly biased.

Coaches and players have to learn how to play against the refs too.
Agreed, it’s not flopping if the hit is real. Similar to the punter falling down when hit. Have to get their attention. Like the Wake Forest player that fell to the ground to get an official T/O, as we lined up. That was flopping at its finest, thought I was at a Soccer match. But, yeah targeting is subjective, when it should be a given. Then looked at.

I have to think that refs don’t want to punish great plays at end of games. Because yes, that looked like targeting.

I was watching the game on mute because the announcers were awful. I thought it was live and actually thought that's what the review was for. Miami has been called or at least reviewed for targeting on much less. Even if you don't think it was, it should have at least been looked at.

This was the same crew that kept going to the retired referee to ask if Miami was getting away with penalties against Louisville. They were intentionally trying to drum up controversy but these ****ers were silent when things went in favor of Georgia last night.

From Athlon Sports:

"Interesting note tonight in Athens… The referee (assigned by the SEC) is Jeff Heaser. This is his first season in the SEC as a referee after many years in the ACC as a referee," he said.

A fan in his comments section then asked, "Wait I thought the opposing conference supplied the refs?"

"A couple of years ago…when a new contract was written for the game, it was changed to 'home team conference' is my understanding. In previous years, it was 'visiting team officials' in the contract," he added.

Not sure if true or not but saw online that he is the guy who somehow couldn't tell Chaney was down last year vs GT.

I’m all for letting the game be played, but man, at least take a look at it.
I know this is a stretch, but that may have been the first time this year that type of big hit wasn’t mentioned as possible targeting by the broadcast crew.

Good point! I just don't think that's in King's DNA. Kid is tough as nails. Mendoza tried to sell it with the non-targeting hit on him by Wes which is maybe what King needed to do.

The rule changed to using the “6 inch circle at the crown of the helmet” this year. He did not make contact with that portion of his helmet.

I know most of you have no idea what 6 six inches looks like, so this confusion is understandable.
Looks pretty textbook to me, the crown hit the head/neck area of the Georgia Tech qb...you can see his helmet (head) snap back. Plus the neck is off limits too.
