TAMU Game Week Discussion Thread 2.0

So tamu has this great defensive line but they don’t have a good pass rush and they don’t stop the run well. What are they good at?
They play 2 gap scheme, down to the frog stance. They dont have alot of twitchy guys. Lots of power str8 ahead types, seems more suited to defending zone schemes.

We handled their DL pretty well last season, I understand that that some of their players that played last year are still there and probably improved, but so has UM’s OL. Unless they added some complete studs from the transfer portal or from their high school recruiting UM should be able to handle them.

They're all the same guys.

I’m gonna have some Bench Press thoughts about this ****ery soon

And they’re all studs. All of them. The issue is Durkin, if y’all screamed for Jimbo to hand over playcalling and didn’t also demand he put DJ in an equipment shed, you should’ve.

As Miami fans often say, “he be juice of the booty”.
Studs based on hs correct?

I think we play a lot of 2 high. Back up off of their WRs, disguise coverages, and try to bait him into an interception or 2 by showing blitzers and dropping them into his passing lanes or him trying to throw it down field into 2 high. Probably won't end up with many sacks unless he's confused post snap and holds the ball because someone is in his passing lane he thought he had or because we disguised our coverage really well.

Other than that, he'll be getting the ball out quick taking what we give him. No since in blitzing too crazy because we won't be getting home and he has good legs.

Their interior OL is rock solid if Bryce Foster is fully healed from his season ending injury last year. Our best bet to get consistent pressure is probably Mesidor lined up on their true freshman RT. Force them to run middle or left.

Then again, in previous stops, Guidry has been more "stop the pass and force teams to run" versus the opposite that most DCs are doing. Durkin is very similar but has had lots of trouble stopping the run his last several years as DC and HC at multiple programs. I'm not the least bit afraid of their running game unless it's Reuben Owens and he's a liability in pass pro right now so we could take advantage there if they want to feature him.
I don’t think Weigman has the patience. He’s not a dink and dunker. Obviously Petrino knows this so he’s gonna dictate that with his playcalling and limiting audibles. This is a true chess match of counters. Best coaching staff wins

You're right. We had all these DL studs, with no LB talent, and Durkin runs a 3-5 most the year.

Here is our DL breakdown by class, star rating, and national position ranking. They all rotate:

2020 Class:

DT McKinley Jackson 4 star #8
DE Fadil Diggss 4 Star #11
DT Isaiah Raikes 3 star #61

2021 Class:

DE Shemar Turner 4 Star #10
DE Tunmise Adelye 4 Star #12
DT Albert Regis 4 Star # 37

2022 Class:

DT Walter Nolen 5 Star #1
DE Shemar Stewart 5 Star #3
DT Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy 5 Star #4

We are playing a tougher opponent than FSU played Sunday. "**** bro are u crazy? U just FSU hating"

Told my guy on the way back from the game friday night, LSU are in trouble v FSU WRs. LSU has CBs from Syracuse and South East Louisiana.

LSU was not a top 5 team, they are 1-3 in their last 4 games.

They lost to our current opponent 38-23, 50-30 v UGA and now lost to FSU 45-24. In between that they beat Purdue 63-7 so people forget about that.

LSU actually reminded me of our 2017 team falling apart late in the season losing our last 3 games then entering the season ranked and LSU slapped us up in Texas.

If we beat A&M people will not credit it as they doing FSU smoking LSU but it is a tougher opponent. LSU pain is not over, they have to play some serious passing teams like Ole Miss and Miss St.
My buddy who's our Dj at the bar is a huge LSU fan. He said the exact same thing about the wr/cb match up and said they were in trouble. Well he was dead on.

Miami is gonna run all over A&M. If Dawson can add some wrinkles with the TEs and some of the speedster, Harrell or Ray Ray, It will come down to TVD and his performance. The problem will be can UM’s defense stop their offense. I think UM has a better chance of stopping their offense than they do of stopping UM’s offense.
