I worked on the construction of their weight room/indoor practice facility.

Always hated their weight room. No mirrors and pretty plain.

You must be a young cat. I've been working out well over 30+ and mirrors are for the vain IMO.

These pro players all have better S&C coaches on their NFL teams with personalized regimes to do in the offseason. They don't need Swasey for anything other than a good comfort level guy to shoot the **** with and to spot them on heavy lifts. That's about it. They like him personally, which is why they wanted him back, not because he was a STUD S&C coach.

No, not true at all. They did Swasey's program and it wasn't just former Miami players there either. Some pretty prominent NFL players trained with him as well. They like Swasey because he trains them like their still in college. Most NFL programs emphasize injury prevention and injury prevention alone.

Yeah....it's a nice workout change from the norm they are used to, I can see that. Injury prevention in the NFL is huge and much needed. Guys get older and lose flexibility....they have already reached their muscle maturity and strength peaks. But it's not like the guys is better than Cochran at Bama. Why aren't these pros going there in the offseason. It's because he's in Bama.....not South Beach.

Bull****...
Bama players are usually physically maxed out..mediocre success in the NFL because of that.

My son trained under Swasey. He he thought he was a great mentor and very good college coach. I always had arguments with him about our players not as strong compared to SEC players. He always defended him while I always wanted him to be replace. His argument was always about how good Swasey was to young players with little or no parenteral guidance at home. He said Swasey was a father figure to many football players and had positive influence on their lives, etc.....
My son views explain, at least partially, Swasey's popularity among players and ex-canes. It doesn't justify his retention as head of S&C program which is in dire need of massive upgrade in the strength department. Richt has to look at it from on-field result prospective. Someone else on the staff can serve that father figure role.

This right here is why i think he was so well liked and thought of around Miami.....more for his mentoring/personal relationships than his S&C skill. The S&C coach is the ONLY coach who is with these guys year round, especially during the summer. If he's a good dude, and all accounts are that he was, he is probably looked upon as a father figure to many kids (or at least a close uncle/friend) and that is why it's tough for many to see him go. He seemed like he was a much better speed/agility guy than he was a strength/conditioning coach. People can blame Golden all they want and rightfully so, the things this staff did to Perryman, Duke, Yearby and others took away from their skills in my books. But the S&C coach has the final say on the exercises and workout programs, and these kids were either too weak/soft during the Shannon era, or too big, stiff and slow during the Golden era. At some point, the S&C program will be looked at and changed.

I'm not sure what Swasey is paid, but it would have been ok with me to keep him on staff in some capacity but UNDER the supervision of a top notch S&C guy.

i do not know enough of what happens within the program to make a determination, but my eyes tell me that we have been inadequate in the trenches for a long, long time. whether it is swasey's fault or not, i dont know but i trust Richt's judgment.

i want to also dispel the myth that former players come to work out with Swasey in the off season because of Swasey's genius. the above provides an insight into why the come, but more importantly is the weather, the beach and hip-hop culture/clubs, taxes and the pro-debtor laws of Florida, the latter two being critically important.

How many times were we outscored and just plain destroyed in the 2nd half of games the last 10 years. The Swasey era has been the total antithesis of the "4th quarter belongs to us" mantra during the dynasty years.

i think our kids being weak and undersized under shannon was more a reflection of Swasey because RS didnt micro-manage everything like golden.

We went from one extreme (skinny, weak, fast kids) to the other (fat, strong, slow kids) with Shannon and Golden. Hopefully Richt finds a happy medium.

its their alma mater. thats why they come. they have NFL s & c coaches, they dont need swasey.

You just proved my point. If an NFL player wants to go workout in the offseason with a college guy who can max our their physical potential and not do the "injury prevention stuff", why aren't they going to Bama with Cochran where the guys he trains are MAXED out by him before they even go pro? It's because he's in Bama and not in sunny Miami.

Do you think that's how he speaks in every day conversation? Raising his voice on random words?

Last season Richt hired Scott Cochran's (Alabama) top assistant Mark Hocke. He spent 6 seasons at Bama. If you're gonna grab someone's protege, Bama is a nice place to look.

Here he is mic'd up for a workout:

He's like 12 yrs old lol

Not doubting he knows his ****, just caught me off guard

not really impressed with that guy either. not savage enough.

They don't have an indoor practice facility, but one is in the works. So consider me confused.

As I said weeks ago, he was gone, now the when just happened and it's the best thing that's happened to our program in a long time besides Richt being hired.

Yes they are the last SEC school without an indoor practice facility. After talking with a friend of mine that is a Georgia booster. The politics of this indoor facility was a major part of why Richt was fired.

He told me that their 2 biggest boosters basically will be putting up a huge percentage of the cost to build the indoor facility, but their stipulation was that Richt had to be fired. Prez fired him...they're getting their facility. Alot of the boosters loved Richt and wanted him to stay.
