I know we can't sleep on the ACC. And I know Clemson will be a legit test early.

But, our schedule is truly light until Notre Dame in WEEK 10. Why not start our young bucks out the gate. Yes they will have struggles. No we should still not lose a game. By the time ND comes around they will basically be second or third year players experience wise. By playoff time, they will be upgrades over whoever starts in front of them in week 1.

Why not start them right away and get their growing pains fixed as early as possible. They will have their mess ups in their first few games no matter what. Why not give them starter reps vs stanford, FAMU, WF, and Central MI. Then when we play clemson play whoever is performing best.

Because we’re not just handing them the job its a competition. Mirabal is playing what he thinks is the best 5

Posted by Cookies here we only averaged 1.41 yards before contact last year which was 111th (thank goodness for Fletcher falling forward)

Many say we had the best OL in CFB last year and that's true pass blocking but the run blocking was not at all the best. My co-worker wanted Mirabal fired after the SMU game lol. Pringle sparked the run game in the 2nd half vs Syracuse when we were not able to run block at all and Fletcher took over in the playoffs. So they figured it out late. We are hearing report after report of the RB's looking good which tells me the run blocking is excellent at least against our D. I am hopeful it's more that we have monsters on that OL than our run D has slipped.

By Clemson game, I wouldn't be surprised to see this lineup:
LT Samson
LG McCoy
C Rodriguez
RG Buchanon
RT Cantwell
Reserves: SJ, Congdon, Wilkerson

The fact SJ is ahead of theses monsters and he's only a sophomore himself, it's not like he's a 4th year player; perhaps we should put some respect on SJ name here. If he's been opening up these holes in practice against Moten and Scott we are cooking with WW2 burn dudes on contact rocket fuel. Seemingly nobody wants him to play.

I know he’s not the ideal OL from what we have seen in the M&M era but let’s not forget..SJ was the #1 C prospect in the country and was a superstud at Gorman. He wasn’t some 2* project.
Absolutely and people on here which is not surprise always tend to forget that. Little dose of reality on SJ, he’s arguably the strongest person on the team, he has a wingspan of a player that is 6’4 and he plays like an animal on the field with elite athleticism for his size. I think we’ll be OK guys! Lol

I mean supposedly the staff has been high on McCoy for years and said he has NFL potential too but he has been nothing but mid
He hasn’t been mid in camp. He’s been pretty good in camp. His athleticism and body type were always made for tackle. He was a tackle when he first came here.

Lake thinks SJ is the starting LG at Stanford.

But he also thinks Lyle is great too so he's obviously full of it. Yeah in shorts and shells and when there a giant hole in front of him I'm sure Lyle is amazing

Edit.....LG, dumb typo noticed by Htown
Just another dose of reality for you ret@rd because I know you can’t figure things out on your own, Lyle has been the second best running back in fall camp. Those are facts! Not the made up nonsense in your head you spew on here! Lol

I’m usually someone who preaches that high school rankings are over valued so let me be a hypocrite for a moment.
Every single player we are discussing was a blue chip recruit coming out of high school. If our coaches can’t create a good Oline from a bunch of 4 stars and a few 5 stars, then our coaches are terrible.

You guys are acting like we have a bunch of prospects who can become good if they have good coaching. Nonsense. I would bet 99% of CFB coaches would trade their Olines for who UM has. Of course experience matters. But give me talent over experience any day of the week.

We will see when the games start

100% Were doing it how were supposed to. But I wish we could do it my way without it reflecting badly on the team and culture lol. U cant deny that it would be better for the programs future. Hopefully it makes no difference

While there's a general picture of who will roll out on the O-line for the first snaps against Stanford, the picture isn't 100% clear. This group is more like seven or eight guys pressing for reps, and I expect it to keep moving over the course of the season even without an injury.

Here's where I see it after camp:

Samson Okunlola has done everything we hoped for originally coming out of high school. I always thought his build made him more of a guard prospect, but his footwork and the quickness of his feet say otherwise. He's solid there, full stop.

Ryan Rodriguez is locked in at center. Nobody's really pushing him. He's just firm in that spot, and if he stays healthy all year — which is the one thing to watch given his injury history — he will impress.

Matthew McCoy gives us the most flexibility of the group. He's solid at right tackle right now, but worst case, he's a full-time starting guard. That's the kind of value you want.

Those three came into camp with the most experience, and they leave it with the most secure jobs. After that, it gets interesting.

SJ Alofaituli is going to play more than people think. He's holding his own at left guard, and even though he's not the tallest guy up front, he's shown the staff he can be a consistent, physical presence there.

Max Buchanan has started to push him late in camp — that's probably the biggest shift of the last week and a half.

Ben Congdon is the name everyone's talking about. We knew he was a freak coming in, but nobody outside the building expected an unheralded freshman to be this ready this fast. He's got a wrestling background that shows up in how low he plays and how easily he gets under bigger guys — that's a natural guard trait, and it's why I think he's a true guard long-term, whatever else happens around him.

Jackson Cantwell is every bit as legit. He played almost every snap at left tackle this spring and is now working right guard while still taking tackle reps. I think he's more of a natural tackle who can play guard when we need him to — the son of Olympic shot putters, and it shows in his hands and his length. Both him and Congdon are going to play early. I'd be shocked if they don't.

I'll say this about both of them: don't panic the first time either one gets beat.

I watched Markel Bell get eaten alive in his first look at left tackle before he turned into the best left tackle in the country and a third-round pick. I remember Francis Mauigoa going through the exact same thing as a freshman before he was polished by his final year. Development isn't linear. Give these guys some grace.

Jamal Merriweather was banged up in the spring but picked up real pace at the end of camp and is pushing into that right tackle mix.

Behind that group, Canon Pickett and Rhys Woodrow are more down-the-road guys, but both are trending in the right direction and could find a way onto the field. Joel Ervin didn't play in the spring while he got his body right, but he showed real quality reps late in camp — I think he's got the highest ceiling on the entire offensive line if it all comes together.

Jaden Wilkerson is the backup left tackle and got good work in camp despite some inconsistency. Jacob Hawks, the 6-foot-9 juco tackle, is further down the depth chart but has real long-term upside once he catches up to the speed of the game. He has plenty of eligibility which should allow him to develop nicely here.

Is this line on the level of last year's group — the best offensive line in the country? No. That's not realistic with this much inexperience. But there's more than enough here to be playoff caliber if it gels over the course of the season, and I think it will.

We'll have the whole breakdown of how this line settles in against Stanford and every week after that — make sure you're subscribed so you don't miss it.

Ben Congdon was not Unheralded. He was a High 4 Star recruit Like #161 Over All.

Don’t make it sound like he some undiscovered 3 Star.

I know since Mario arrived, everyone has become fixated on height and weight, but there’s something extremely intriguing about SJ.

The kid is somewhere between 6’0” and 6’2”, weighs roughly 288–300 pounds, and reportedly runs a legit 4.7. He plays with an impressive combination of twitch, leverage, explosiveness, and speed that you simply don’t see from many interior linemen his size (pause).

If he can develop into anything close to what 5’11”, 290 pound Willie Lampkin was at North Carolina, a 2024 First-Team All-American guard, then Miami is cooking.

I’m really starting to believe SJ is going to turn some heads this season. By the time the season ends, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see his name on the All ACC team.

The future of the offensive line is insane 2027 and beyond could be some of the most dominate offensive line play we have ever seen
