So close, yet so far. This was a legit step forward for the program, but all this run accomplished was getting JD another year. Next year, the standard has to be set, it has to be Omaha, and a top 25 team, a legit ACC contender, or it's time to move on. This can't be a mere flash in the pan. There's no reason to believe that Miami baseball can't be a world class program again, and it starts with having the right leadership in place. I'm not going to lie, I was never a fan of the JD hire, because it felt like a halfassed move, especially coming off the Dimare tenure.
If JD is able to build on this run and go on a run next spring, then so be it. That said, I'm not super optimistic, especially knowing that he isn't nearly the recruiter that his predecessor was, and he isn't an elite tactician either. It's tough to win if your coach isn't strong in at least one area.
