Sun Life Renovations Begin

looks like they are going to lower the field a little and that is how they will add more rows in front with decent sightlines. if you have ever sat in the first few rows there you know what I am talking about. I could be wrong and I am no engineer but that's what it looks like to me.

Pretty sure Sun Life had the furthest distance from the stands to the field of any stadium in the NFL, and I'm sure one of the biggest distances in the NCAA.

You may be right it was either Sun Life or the Chargers stadium

At the 50 yard line Qualcomm in San Diego is farther from the stands to the sideline than SunLife. Because of the curvature of the stands, Qualcomm's distances diminish as you go toward the endzone. SunLife doesn't curve, so the distances stay the same as you go toward the endzones.

I'm sorry for asking b/c I'm sure I missed this somewhere, but when r the renovations expected to be complete?

This is what the new seats will look like, no more orange.

This stadium will scream Dolphins more than ever.

@CanesWarningFS: According to Dolphins' CEO, Tom Garfinkel, the sideline stands at Sunlife will be 24 feet closer to the field.

They are actually shifting the skyboxes out towards the field a little bit and bringing the seating down from that level. It will result in more seating closer to the field on the sidelines. However, it will still be further away than most stadiums.

They are not lowering the field, the water table is too high. Duke is lowering their field right now to bring seats closer to the field. Miami is redoing the sideline bowl by extending rows forward but the bowl will be at a more shallow angle. I don't see anywhere where they are "shifting the skyboxes out toward the field" that would be very difficult, but possible I guess.

Great info. Thank you. Do we know if they are doing that on the corners? anything they can do there?

Yeah, unfortunately this won't have too great of an effect. It just changes the angle of view slightly. To get the affect everyone wants, they would have to lower the field, so that the additional seats would be better used.
