State of Emergency-NOAA Link in OP

Laugh all you want. All you are showing is your ignorance. If you think the schools aren't having conversations about this very topic with the ACC then you are fairly simple minded

I'm in Palm Beach. North of here is mostly gator fans, with the exception of few of our finest ( Stay safe UKnowIt), so the heck with how they feel. We have the feather people in box and need to drive the nails in now. Donna is not here anymore and I doubt our new President is prepared to see everything he has done to have a winner go down the drain because north Florida people can take a power outage. Play the game if at all possible.

I respect your opinion. My comment wasn't about where Miami fans live. It was regarding public perception of pushing forward with a football game 1-2 days after a category 4 hurricane destroys the entire east coast of Florida north or Palm Beach. University leadership has to consider this. They may come to the conclusion to push forward with the game, but don't be surprised in the least that there will be some public backlash. I get that a lot of people on this board are too tough to have a little hurricane ***** up the game for them, but this hurricane is going to cause serious problems for the state of Florida.

LOL at this dude and his fears of "public perception" as some sort of dopey justification for cancelling an event that is very important to a ton of people and has huge financial implications.

Not a goddam thing is going to happen to Dade or Broward that wouldn't happen during a normal rain storm. Cancelling this game just to appease a few idiots who think it's wrong for the people of South Florida to go on with their lives because some people a couple hundred miles away had problems is idiotic, reactionary and feeble at best.

No where in my post did I say that I was afraid of public perception. I'm telling you what the politicians and school are going to think long and hard about. And judging by some of the press now coming out about the issue, I was correct. So you can be as tough and sarcastic as you want about the hurricane, but people are thinking long and hard about playing this game. That was my point.

Doesn't seem like UM is thinking all that long and hard. Just because a few dopey **** stirring nerds like Stu Mandel are yapping their *** traps doesn't mean there's any public perception about any of this. Doesn't matter anyway. We wouldn't cancel for a normal October rain storm, so we won't cancel for this.

Tropical storm winds were supposed to begin at 3:00 PM. 18 minutes ago.

I'm become less and less convinced about the seriousness of this storm.

Once it's 5:00 or 6:00 and next to nothing has still happened they'll push the time the storm will hit back to 8:00 pm.

It's similar to the end of the world people who continuously push the apocolypse back as each prediction is wrong.

It's a serious storm. Trust me, you wouldn't want to be near the eyewall of this monster.

I more mean when the storm would create damage in So. Fla.

Right now we're supposed to be experience tropical storm winds and the winds seem to be going at about 5 mph.

Hurricane threat over for Miami and becoming extremely extremely unlikely for Broward.
Morales is the only local guy who has been telling the truth. Jackie Nespral almost **** herself when he said there's no danger to Dade. Expect Morales to be fired for not toeing the company line and keep the fear levels up. Fear equals ratings.

Scott is a hands off guy typically. Doesn't like a meddling government. Hopefully he leaves this up to the decision makers at the university

These punks are trying so hard to get out of this. The storm has passed Miami and most power has already been restored. I can't wait to watch us kick their *** in person on Saturday night!

So where do u draw the line as to what areas we should cancel games? All games in the state of Florida? South of Orlando?
Resources? Miami will be fine and won't need to draw resources from other parts of the state.

You have it backwards... other parts of the state will need to draw resources out of Miami. But then again, 90% of the hype surrounding hurricanes is just that; hype. This isn't Haiti.

I have a friend who has made the same argument, that the games in Miami Gainesville should be cancelled so emergency resources from those cities can be used to help impacted areas and not for football games. Not sure I get that though. If Miami personnel go up state to help, I doubt they would leave the others staying in the Miami area stretched too thin to handle a football game. Wouldn't the National Guard be brought in for much of that additional help, anyway?

It would depend on how many people they have to send up north, and how many hours people have been on shifts leading up to the game. I don't think this will end up being a significant enough event to have to cancel the game. If it traveled across the state from PBC out to the Tampa area then they probably would have to consider cancelling. I have a feeling this is more hype than anything.

Yesterday, the strongest part of the storm was predicted to be right now.

Right now, the strongest winds are supposed to be at 6-8 pm. At 6:00 pm, when the wind is still traveling at 10 mph, then we'll learn that the strongest winds will actually come at 10:00 pm. And then at 10:00 pm the news will make sure we're all aware that the strongest winds will actually arrive at 1:00 in the morning.

This was what I meant but realized I may as well tell it to my dog so didn't even bother with responding.

The U has Millions on the line for this home game not to mention our momentum with a W. Blake aint pulling the trigger unless the canopy collapses.

So I'm planning on driving down from Jacksonville early Saturday morning. How terrible of an idea is that?

That's a tough one, you don't know how bad it will be where you are and S of where you are. Make sure you have topped your tank off, there might not be any gas stations with power for many miles.

I honestly can't believe they haven't cancelled the game yet. I fully expected those in charge to go into panic mode by now and call it off.

Was saying all along i thought the game would be posptponed.. But with the system not hitting Miami there is no reason for this not to occur. They can spin it as a city coming today in support of something good.

Don't be surprised if the game gets cancelled / rescheduled. The storm may not hit Miami, but there may be some perceived Public Relations issues if all of the east coast of Florida is under water and without power by Saturday.

Lmao. The people on this board....

Can we adopt a filtering system to get these panicky bytches out of here.

I didn't say I personally thought it should be cancelled. I said I was surprised those in charge didn't freak out and prematurely cancel.

isnt this going to run through half the east, are they going to also cancel their games? its a national game , you would build more awareness to whatever damage happens to the state by playing the game and asking for peoples support .

LOL at these FSU writers

Holy ****

Come get your reckoning you bums

***** needs to find Miami on a ****ing map

Back when I worked on pipelines we would pray for rain on hangover days so we wouldn't have to go work 14 hours with a pounding headache and severe dehydration. FSU is acting like we did, because they know the work is going to be very, very hard.

When are they going to finally put this to rest? I'm tired of refreshing these threads.

My guess is when it's confirmed FSU has their flight scheduled.

People with Friday flights down here let us know if there's any change to the status.
