Stat that floored me

Samson is a great "use case". Are you a glass half full vs. glass half empty guy, what we on CIS so lovingly call slurper vs mope?

The Half Full crowd (I am one of them in this case) believe the fact Samson has had to sit behind older and more physically ready OTs in Rivers and Bell is a hallmark of depth of talent. It's what the best programs have done, stack 4/5 stars to create intense competition and peer-to-peer development.

The Half Empty crowd will say a 5 star should be able to beat out Bell by year 3 so he at best isn't developing fast enough, and at worst could be a JAG and transfer out.

We're only going to really know who is right in 2026.

Personally, I always expected Pancake to be a slow roll because his competition and level of development in high school in MA/New England was at a dramatically lower level than what CiCi faced at IMG. I get that by Y3 he should have overcome that. But he was also injured, which set him back while Bell took a major step forward. But I'm a half full type guy, so I could be too optimistic.

It's also VERY possible that his KNEE INJURY played a massive part in his slow roll. That's a factual statement that is neither slurper nor mope, yet gets omitted often.

Edit - I overlooked your reference to the injury at the tail end of your comments. I do however think it played a significantly larger role in his delayed growth than most think it did.

i hate to be a downer, but our hit rate right now is 20% on these 5 stars. hopefully, the DL prospects produce.
Fair point. Getting 5 stars is amazing and a must get but to me adding as many blue chippers in total to the roster is more important. This will reflect more on the field than those 3 players, for example. Again, still good to have all the 5 stars possible. We may not be done in that department.

There’s two sides to the “building the trenches” coin.

The positive is that’s how championship teams are built. There’s a tiny number of giants who can run like deer in the world and if you have a bunch of them, you’re going to be physically advantaged over most teams.

The downside is that those positions often take the most time to develop. There aren’t a ton of linemen that can immediately contribute. Even the most skilled recruits often need a year or two of physical development. So you don’t get the immediate impact you might get with a 5 star receiver or running back.

I see a lot of people here writing off linemen who don’t immediately contribute. It’s unrealistic to assume freshmen linemen should be playing right off the bat, especially interior defensive linemen. The good news is, most of these guys are in their second and third year now so we should finally see the proverbial fruits of our recruiting.

This year will be the year that starts the run of great trenches on both sides of the ball form Miami.

DT run game still a problem IMO. It's asking a lot for a second year (Scott) to meet 5 star expectations at DT. The other two are good enough but not exceptional. Should be better on passing downs where Bain, Mesidor and maybe even Blount or Lowe could move inside.

While that is factually correct, Cici and Pancake are the only 5 stars going in their 3rd season, and 1 of them is going to be a Day One guy at the end of the season. The other three are 2nd-years. Again, we need another year of data to start seeing a trend. Hopefully those DL 5 stars step up this season.

@DMoney @1murhurricane , can you shed some light on how big of an impact the new recruiting hires have had? Obviously, Mario is elite in his own right and hires assistants that recruit.

But I'm wondering what changes (if any) the support staff has made and/or what feedback you have received on their roles with current recruits.

Haven’t read the thread fully but even though I wasn’t pumped about the Mario hire one thing I’ve always said:

He will have the opportunity to see his plan through

No clue whether it leads to championships or not but our previous coaches were never really given much hope to begin with

Thank you for bringing logic and reason to the party.
Flip side of logic and reason is that CiS don't want none of that!!!

Need to do this at a higher or a bit higher clip at DT. If Simpson is the real deal that changes a lot this season
Six Composite five stars on OL and DL since 2023. Most in America during that span. And that doesn’t include Hayden Lowe, who was a 247 five star but not Composite.

Alabama was second with five, and Georgia and Texas tied with four.

I’m expecting Blay to be the difference not Scott. I also believe Moten will build off last year and be a force under D Lew’s coaching and. DT friendly scheme.
