Staff thoughts going forward

Just a few thoughts.

We won 8 games with a staff that was clearly in over their head. Richt's staff is better at ever single position, so one would think that would translate into a better record. Is it from top to bottom the staff all of us wanted, probably not. But it is improved everywhere. We were a combination of Golden, Coley, NoD away from beating UC, FSU, WSU so I have high hopes next year for 10 wins.

The other thing is I think Richt may have had a harder time selling coaches on coming to Miami than any of us want to believe. The truth is we have been a joke for 10 years and the SEC is where it is at right now. If we can get back to winning 10, 11, 12 games a year the staff situation will take care of its self. Some will leave and we will have proven you can still win at Miami and if we continue to be willing to spend (which to me is the best thing to come out of all of this) then we will get what ever assistant coach we want.

I'm happy with the staff, not 100% happy, but happy. Just start winning and the rest will take care of its self.

As I said in another thread next years goals should be in this order:
1.Win the Coastal
2. Win the bowl game

Bonus goals
3. win 10 games
4. Beat FSU

There no reason a competent coach shouldn't win at Miami given the fertile grounds that we stand on, Golden tried to implement to much of a big 10 style approach, when all he had to do is take a blue print from the past.

You had my interest until you said "the SEC is where it's at". You've been impressed by their coach hires? For chrissakes, Kirby Dumb just hired Mel Tucker as his DC.

Not to mention his stubborn ride with me or else attitude. Totally afraid to admit changes needed to be made. How hard headed could a person be running the same **** scheme without making any significant changes. Not replacing coaches??? Not a single coach goes down without a fight like this guy did.

With our stadium situation it's great that we have obtained the amount of sec coaches we have considering they chose to leave perspective schools who stadiums are full in each and every Saturday. I would like to add we need another elite south Florida recruiter on the staff in the next year or so. However I do know winning makes every school more appealing so in the grand scheme of things it's not a big deal

I think we're fooling ourselves by putting expectations together too quick. Watch a spring game THEN assume. We ain't at signing day.

For the first time in 15 years we are going to have a staff that is aligned philosophically from top to bottom with a true leader at the top.

Larry Coker was a total empty suit.

Randy Shannon was a ******* micro manager introvert who could not get along with really anyone.

Al Golden was an idealouge that was unable to convince anyone his process worked because it never actually has.

No. This years hires haven't been great. But if you are at Arkansas, UT, Bama, or most any other SEC schools, besides a few, you are happy and probably not willing to take a job at Miami yet even with a small pay raise because the situation has been so bad for so long.

FIFY

Totally disagree with this. Winning the coastal is the most important thing next year period. Everything else will fall into place after that.

We upgraded every coaching position on the staff exponentially.

Doesn't anyone actually understand that Kevin Beard was not drafted, never played or coached in the NFL and was a glorified flag football coach before being elevated to WR coach in 2015?

Dugans was a 3rd round pick in the NFL, played in the NFL, coached in the NFL and has almost 10 years of coaching WR's at the college level?

You could argue that Jon Richt is green; however, he has a year of experience in the NFL and will be working very closely with one of the best QB coaches in college football history (Charlie Ward, Chris Weinke, Dan Kannel, Matt Stafford, Aaron Murray, etc.)

Its night and day.

It shows you how much of a joke of an "achievement" 8 wins is in today's landscape. Those 8 wins included losses to FSU, WSU and Cinn. Any coach with a pulse could have won those games. Mark Richt definitely has a pulse. Those kids essentially coached themselves this year and won 8 games.

You will know pretty quickly if Mark Richt is the guy for Miami.

Low Bar

1. 10 wins BEFORE the ACCCG, and
2. Win the Coastal

If we can't do that next year, Mark isn't the guy.

Yeah, given the offensive line, and overall talent level, that's not happening year one

exactly.

I said this from the jump. If we can win 6-8 games on auto pilot with no real gameday coaching then it shouldnt be a problem for richt and co to get us back on track.. These kids were playing through dumbazz shid like 3 down lineman on 4th and 1.

Can you imagine how much better they will play just being aligned correctly?

there are so many small things that will make us better. We actually have a signal caller that's going to be dangerous. The kids will no longer have to out athlete other teams. We will have a coach that can provide help to his offense with good playcalling.

Something we havent had on offense in 10+ years.

anything less than 10 wins is a complete fail.

If we lose to Notre Dame and FSU (which is a really good possibility) that puts us in line to finish with 9 wins but also get an ACC Championship birth. I would be happy with that. That should be the first step to showing these young recruits that we're back. Gotta win the bowl game too.

Then you have no idea how to gauge talent, my man.

If you think this isn't a 10+ win roster than i can't trust your judgment.

Yep. It was proven once Larry Scott took over too. No offense to him as I think he's a good positions coach but this team could have won 8 games with Katie Meier as head coach. That's how useless and irrelevant Golden ended up being. The success of last year's team was completely disconnected from what anyone on that staff was doing. So to think that a REAL head coach can't come in here and actually contribute enough to increase our win total by two is setting the bar too low.

The O Line was young last year. They should improve just by having another year under their belt, not to mention the upgraded position coach.
