Stadium

They had a great size and place option with Beckham and would've only paid partial cost. Of course, they f'd that up.

Please enlighten me...who is "they"--the UM admin? If so, how did "they" f it up?

Yeah - I am not a fan of the athletic department in general, but this one seems like it is not their fault as the issue (supposedly) was that Beckham and crew wanted a stadium that would max out at 25,0000 seats and Miami wanted at least 40,000. If Miami had agreed to 25K, everyone would (justifiably) be crucifying them.
Beckham was willing to go to 40k but of course, Miami would need to pay the difference. LOL, Right before leaving Donna gives this interview about wanting to get out of Sunlife.....it's too big, we don't want to rent. Oh yeah, then why did you sign a 20 year lease? Another monumental setback she caused just like the Coker, Radio and Grohlden extensions. As soon as Donna left, Flake says, we are happy at Sunlife. GTFO!!

That's not what happened at all.

Beckham was willing to build a 50k stadium, but Ross wouldn't let us out of our lease at sun life. The cheap *** admin decided it's better to keep playing at that garbage no life stadium so they told Beckham and the Miami fan base to suck it

Wow, what a load of ****.

Not once did Beckham or MLS ever agree to 50k. Not once.

Actually yes, they did. Do you work for Blake James or something?

The UM admin ****ed this up so royally, you can't really blame it on incompetence at this point....it almost has to be willful sabotage

Where the f-ck are you guys getting that Beckham ever agreed to 40K?

By all accounts, Shalala and UM were willing to split the costs to go to 40-50k, but Beckham and MLS never gave the go-ahead, and the city kept ****ing beckham around regarding site locations.

Man, you guys are seriously effed in the head.

We can go back and forth on this...but since you're the one making the claim, I'd love for you to show a link that says Beckham OK'd 50k.

He was quoted in an interview, I believe the Miami Herald. Said they stopped talking to him and he wasn't feeling confident, kinda like Grohlden does to recruits. "This is the new Miami."

Wasn't confident about what?

Getting the city to OK his plan at a location he wants? Getting MLS to ok a 40-50k stadium when they've explicitly said they want no more than 25?

Link?

How about instead of *****ing at each other back and forth, one of you provides some evidence to support your claims? I was always under the impression that UM had some interest, but between the reduced capacity, city, and lease, it fell through? It never really seemed like a viable option anyways, rather a pipe dream. "Our" stadium is garbage now, no doubt. We need to build one, but let's get a coach first!

That has always been the main gist of every article I've read.
--UM has interest in sharing some of the costs of the stadium, but it would need to be 40k or larger.
--Beckham has interest, but isn't sure 40k will work; he and MLS are targeting 25k
--The city has consistently ****ed Beckham around on site location.

Here's one link:

"James has said UM would prefer a stadium with a capacity of 40-44,000. Beckham’s group prefers 20-25,000. The Herald, citing a source close to MLS, said the league recently made clear a 25,000-seat stadium works for MLS."

I'll hang up and listen while CaneintheBrain and Duke4heisman look for links where Beckham's group reversed course and approved a 40 or 50k stadium, but UM balked.

UM doesn't have half the athletics donors that TCU or Baylor have.

So why don't they ask? Spurrier was talking about how South Carolina had garbage facilities compared to the rest of the SEC and they told him they only had a few boosters and never asked. They only had one million dollar donor and his name is on the stadium. We have more than that. Spurrier told them to ask, and now they are on par with the rest. I understand Spurrier is a real coach and built a winning program, so that is first but I certainly believe the amount of NFL alumni and many rich alumni would donate to a stadium and many other things if we were winning. By the way, Butch Davis solves first things first.

Our BOT won't even put in the effort to find a competent football coach. Why would they build a stadium? Don't get me wrong, our current situation is horrendous and I'm all for a 50k stadium closer to campus, but building a stadium would be the ultimate statement that football is a priority. Not going to happen with the current cast of clowns in charge.

Add to the above that the fact that our AD is retarded puppet. No one on the decision making side gives a chit.

The problem (or a problem) I have with the school is what is the plan? Are we content with leasing this stadium for another 17 years? And then what, sign another long term lease?

Why does a stadium need to be near the campus? I would guess that UM has gone to at least minimum effort to determine the geographic center of fans that attend games. Why would it not be better to build there if you are inclined to build at all?

How big of an impact do you guys think a new stadium would have on recruiting?

Facility upgrades don't just impact recruiting it impacts your ability to compete for coaches with other programs. Every coach wants to be at a school who's admin has invested in football and the program. Facilities are a big component to show coaches how invested they are to winning.

Facilities, salary of coaches & support staff, booster/fan support, recruiting footprint, conference/schedule, location and living environment are the some of the things coaches look at when rating one job over another.

There is no reason Miami should not be a Top 10 job and right now they are not. In some cases they are lacking with the things listed above and other cases they are severely lacking. If Miami ever wants to have the ability to poach experienced coaches from other P5 schools like they did in the 80's with Jimmy and not just settle for inexperienced up and comers from mid majors they need to invest into the program. A one way to do that is investing in your football infrastructure and big component to that is a stadium.

No place in Coral Gables to build..would have to go west I suppose...and yes they do have the money, but it will not spent on football.

That's because they run the athletic department like absolute garbage

Who is gonna write a check to these bozos?

They can't even get a stadium built. What an embarrassment for the school
