Stadium

They could've just renovated the OB [emoji47]

Yessir they could have. Lil Donna walked away from that plan and lied publicly about it. She said it would have "unfairly burdened" the Miami-Dade taxpayer. Nothing like a liberal politician drawing that line THEN. Surrrrrre, Donna. Surrrrrrre. At best, the Donna slurpers should admit that even if they took her word on that justification at the time that she failed a leader of a freakin' private university by NOT taking advantage of the taxpayer.

Do you guys enjoy just making **** up?

She agreed to spend 50mil of UM's money to help renovate the OB, if I recall correctly. Remember the whole side-by-side OB/marlins stadium thing that would've been a winner for everyone, all around? The city bailed on that plan, just as they bailed on **** near every plan put before them. They wanted to get rid of the OB from the get-go, and UM couldn't do a **** thing about it.

Do you enjoy your default defense of Lil Donna of accusing people of making things up and then using the caveat "If I remember correctly..." in all of your replies?

Here you go:

Miami leaving Orange Bowl, will play in Dolphin Stadium

Shalala called the city's effort "extraordinary," but wondered
if remodeling was worthwhile.

"Is it appropriate for the University of Miami, a private
university, to ask the people, the taxpayers of the city, to spend
$200 million on six games a year?" Shalala asked.

Ultimately, that answer was no.

And you think that this proves Donna quashed the deal? Man, that's a reeeeaaallll reach here.

From that same article:

"The city's stadium refurbishment plan was met with skepticism by some within the university, since much of the money would have come from grants and tax credits that haven't been secured."

So basically, the city was asking UM to enter into a deal that wasn't even financed yet on their end.

For those of you who are either too young to know, or who may have forgotten, the city basically delayed/reneged on several deals with UM, upping UM's share of the costs each time. This was their final attempt--to get UM to settle on a deal that wasn't even financed yet on their end.

That actually sounds like you're reaching. I'm taking Lil Donna at her word. Why even offer up the rationale she did then? AND even if "skepticism" was in play that absolutely still doesn't justify a 20 year effing lease.

I just pulled a quote from the same article you did, chief. Her word does not conflict with the quote I used, which shows that the city was asking UM to enter into an untenable deal.

No. Her words didn't address the feasibility of the plan AT ALL. She ONLY used the copout of wanting to be fair to the taxpayer. It's strange that you'd assert that your little hero wasn't exactly being forthright. Nice try at grasping at the only speculative line in the article though. Your skills at spinning will work well at your local Hillary! campaign office.

Right...her words don't address the feasibility at all. The quote I pulled shows that it wasn't feasible. Which is why I said "her word does not conflict with the quote I pulled."

You're the one attempting to make it seem like it WAS feasible, but that Shalala put the kibosh on it.

Going further...the City wanted the Marlins in that location. They got the Marlins in that location. Now they can choke on it. I have no love for Donna and the BOT, but they could do nothing to save the OB. The City made any option not called the Marlins impossible.

The City did not have the money secured to hold up their end of the bargain. That was common knowledge at the time, and it should be common knowledge now. The City also knew that they could get the money for the Marlins, which was the real prize. The OB was sacrificed for the Marlins. UM was just along for the ride. End of story. The City was NEVER serious about keeping the OB, no matter what any BS quotes anyone can find in some BS Herald article. People can rightfully spew hate on Donna for any number of things. The OB getting torn down and UM getting stuck in that morgue of a stadium in Miami Gardens is not one of them.

Even assuming what you're saying is accurate (which I don't), all that proves is that we had a "leader" that didn't fight it at all and tucked her tail between her legs and ran to the easiest (and dumbest) situation at SLS while ALSO providing cover to the politicians you're claiming were strongarming her/us with the stupid "think of the taxpayer!" rationale.

You clearly have a fundamental political difference with Donna, and that's fine, but there was nothing she or anyone else could do. The City made the rules to make only one outcome possible...Marlins.

It's really freaking amazing how folks have forgotten or chosen to ignore how the city screwed UM. In the scramble to blame Shalala for everything, they've ignored that the city officials planned to push UM out the door from the beginning.

Btw, it's cute when you guys claim people are making stuff up but then cite your personal recollection of events or use empty phrases like "it was common knowledge" to prop up your arguments.

Then why wasn't our little troll queen screaming to anybody that'd listen that this was the case instead of justifying the move? You think the Marleens would have won a war of public opinion on the matter? AT BEST, Donna was negligently lazy on this.

RIDICULOUS that we don't have our own stadium. We are the ONLY division 1 school that doesn't....other than Pitt....and frankly it tells you all you need to know about this clown show athletic department and the blood sucking maggots that make up our BOT

USF plays at the Big Sombrero or whatever they call the Buc's stadium. The city of CG will not sign off on a stadium to be built even if they had they space. The only viable spot would be Tropical Park.

The university is the biggest employer in south Florida, and they certainly have some pull within the Coral Gables city council. If they wanted to make a stadium happen, they have the clout to make it happen.

They sell this "poor little me" narrative so that stupid fans will eat it up and not hold those ****OFFS accountable for being unwilling to invest in football.

We need to start demanding more from this admin. It's clear that they will do the absolute least amount of work and spend the absolute least amount of money they think they can get away with.

It's up to the alumni, fans, and community to put pressure on them

Who the **** is she supposed to cry to? **** yes, the Marlins would have won the war of public opinion. You really think the Cubans/Latins give a **** about college football over pro beisbol? Not a chance.

Nothing I said was racist. It's fact that baseball is big in Latin America and Cuba. College football is not. It's fact that Much of the population of the city of Miami is from Cuba and Latin America. Ergo, it stands to reason that they would (and did) support pro baseball more than college football.

It was a joke. We're not going to agree or concede any points on this or most things Shalala.

There will never be stadium in Coral Gables, but if they had a vision they could find a better venue than what they currently have.
