STA?

STA has a very good OL coach. Yes, it's not as difficult to coach with that talent but they are sound up front.

They got worked up front in the Miramar game.

EDIT: And at times in the MNW game.

I should rephrase my comment, they have great coaches and do attract top talent, but there is a number of kids they do recruit

Agreed, but the main reason for their success is their coaching, OL, and DL play which are mainly kids who go their for their reputation and great coaching. Like you said a few kids here and there are recruited mainly skill position guys. Some kids are legacy kids with no need to recruit, like the Sands', Linder's, Shula's, etc.

Not saying their coaching is poor but let's be real, **** near anybody can coach the kids they have on OL and DL. They run a 3-4 and all 3 of their D-linemen are D-1 kids, as is the case every year. The O-line has the same thing going on. Majority, if not all of the starting 5, are D-1 kids.

STA is the high school version of our 2001 team. They got D-1 kids backing up D-1 kids. The years when they DIDN'T have this type of talent, they were an average team.

They have tremendous talent, but they have the best coaching in the area as well, which, in turn, helps them assemble great talent.

Well having the "best coaching" in this area is like being the smartest ******. The coaching in Broward County is probably the worst you'll find anywhere in the country. It's terrible.

But yes, they probably have the best staff and program in all of South Florida. They still lose games that they shouldn't IMO.

When Lamarcus Joyner transfered to STA you knew then that George could do whatever the **** he wanted and he dared you to call him out on it. That was like a slap in the face if I ever saw one to the FHSAA. LOL. Boss move.

Agree but I don't think it's as big of a slap in the face as what Guandolo has done at Cypress Bay.

That dude took a football team full of rich white boys and added a buttload of hood brothas to the roster and marched to the State Championship game.

EVERYBODY knows what kind of kids make-up the student body at Cypress Bay. The only brothas in that whole school are the ones who play on the football team.

Don't know why anyone would put a stop to it anyway - going to that school is probably the only chance those kids will get to get a decent education

Does cypress recruit or does Guandolo's program recruit it's self? He has been very well respected down here for a long time. They haven't recruited very this year if that's the case. They just lost to Flanagan. Maybe Flanagan is out recruiting Cypress Bay?

Recruit itself. That cypress bay team was not full of "hood" players. As for the racial breakdown of that school, it's very mixed, a lot of Spanish kids. Cypress was a good team with good coaching. A lot of their best players were districted for that school and not recruited. The others, had a choice of West Broward or Cypress for example. The WB team is terrible, so what the kid does (which maximizes his utility) is contact the staff and they work out something to get him in the school. Another example is what wildcat stated, cypress will attempt to persuade top local optimist players to come to their school. By no means do they recruit to a level of U school.

Dude...

SMH

Cypress had 6 players under the same address at one time. Matt Dayes and that whole crew were not Weston kids. I've literally heard their coaches talk about getting kids in.

If anybody wants to know if a school recruits or not it's as simple as looking at their JV squad. If the racial make-up of your JV squad is the opposite of your varsity squad...well...

The racial breakdown of that school is far from "very mixed".
1. Rich white kids
2. Rich South Americans
3. Football players

Before Guandolo got there they were terrible and the personnel of their team looked nothing like it does today. That program isn't well established enough to recruit itself. The change in roster make-up was INSTANT when Coach-G got there.

Please tell me which one of their players that took them to that next level is from Weston.

They're losing to teams like Flanagan because they had a down recruiting cycle. Flanagan also has talent. Cypress has that stud DL/LB that came from Piper this year, and I think that's about it. They're having a down year in terms in talent and they lost their DC.

I haven't really watched film on them so I don't know what their "problem" is...but if I had to guess I would say that Cypress Bay's running game just doesn't look the same anymore without Dayes and they're being forced to pass the ball without a reliable QB/passing game.

Well that's not why they go there. And I don't disagree with you, but if that's gonna be the case then the state just needs to make it an open market. ***** it. Go to any high school you want.

I agree with Wildcats D the fake address situation in high school recruiting for public schools is out of hand. Almost every competitive public high school coach uses fake address. For example, how can Danny Thomas, zoned for piper, end up at cypress. They should not even have school districts its ridiculous. As for St. Thomas Aquinas, they attract kids via scholarship and their aura. Devante Peete literally came to the school administration this year on his own and said "I want to come to St. Thomas because I want to win." Sure enough after a meeting with George Smith, Peete qualified for "financial aid" (scholarship of course.) The transfer of Joyner to STA is solely attributed to Cris Carter, who still coaches part time there. Cris was at the miami dolphins 7on7 camp and he noticed that Joyner stood out. Cris later realized Lamarcus was a top rated prospect. Immediately after the camp, Cris brought Lamarcus to administration and he was let in. At the time, Cris' son Duron was a WR there, with the addition of Joyner STA was propelled to their first state title since 1999. Lamarcus' situation was complicated, the kid was dirt poor and he took a train everyday to school. Since STA is private school districts do not apply.

I never said the fake addresses don't happen, I just don't think it's at the level of u school as far as recruiting goes.

I know Nico Marley contributed and lived in Weston. I'm not going to be able to know where all these kids live lol.

Those kids you + others mentioned all played for the Weston warriors, and they wanted to play together in high school. Cypress was the best place for them to go. Were they all districted for that school? No.

Did Joyner live near southwest? Cuz that's a long *** ride to STA every day

I'm sure a good school in a sea of bad ones does help its case; maybe not to every family but I'm sure it matters to a few.

And the state will never make those changes, so at least football is helping somebody out

He might not of lived close at all. Southwest has a magnet program and they bus a lot of kids in from the inner city.

High school football would be very interesting if everybody had to play with "their own" kids and everybody played for their neighborhood school. Probably would be more competitive.

I'd be lying if i said that we never benefited from transfers but we've lost far more than we've gained. Giovanni Bernard (UNC via STA), Russell Laughton-James (WVU via American Heritage), Tyler Carmona (Navy via American Heritage), James White (Wisconsin via STA), Wade Freebeck (Pitt via STA), Tevin Allen (ISU via STA)...and the list goes on.

And we ran a great program, unlike many other schools that kids transfer from, but our ceiling is relatively low. Top flight kids want to play with other talented kids and they wanna compete for states. People are front-runners these days and don't wanna BUILD something. They're also told that their chances of getting a college scholarship are higher at certain high schools. I can't really argue with that either...cause although i believe that colleges will find you regardless...it's a little easier to get noticed when colleges are always passing by to see your teammates.
