Spring PractiSe 2: Thursday 3-26

Is the JJ hype just greentree lore or is there more concrete evidence? I’m aware he’s very athletic. But we’ve had plenty of those every year
I think it is coupled with the playoff practices, he received positive reviews at that time too and those were more "meaningful" than spring

My concern with X is if he stays MENTALLY locked in. You see it clear as day with him like we used to see it with champ. He's so good that teams don't throw at him often and when long periods of time pass like that he's prone to slip mentally with his effort level. I'll still take a healthy damari over just about anyone. His length and physicality you can't match at corner. Would love a healthy two deep of Oj/XL & Damari & slime. I'll still never forgive O'Connor. I'm good on him. We got at least 5 others right now I put in front of him.
I’m not done with O’Conner that Indy WR would’ve MOSSED anyone of X & OJ let alone Damari who’s rarely available. It’s on the coaches to switch it up regardless who’s out there getting MOSSED they choose not to

Maybe we just have a very different take on what occurred. None of that was on Becker. That was entirely on O'Connor and his lack of physicality & awareness. Can blame heatherman and his position coach for allowing him to bail pre snap all throughout the season. But him not making plays on two poorly thrown balls on long 4th down conversions was basic as can be.

I agree. I like O'Connor. No he's not at OJ's level right now, but he's still generally pretty solid.

Yeah…

Thornton is going to wish he signed elsewhere, cause Dunnigan is taking that nickel spot and Poyser/Fitz back deep. Kid is too talented to keep off field. Thornton will play in certain packages, but JJ is going to be a dude early. Depth is a beautiful thing. We are getting to where we are supposed to be.
I’m glad he did come home. Playing high level ball with ya homies. With a chance at a natty. We gone need all 4 especially how physical and fast we play. I bet we will see some crazy packages this season. I think the defense will have more athleticism overall.

It won’t have to be one **** of a coaching job because of the crazy amount of talent on the roster.

LT FR Jackson Cantwell (although a true freshman he has been with the team since the playoffs, those playoff scout team reps going agains Bain and Mesidor will pay off. On top of that he has generational strength with high school numbers better than most OT at this years combine)

LG RJR Samson (Came alive in the playoffs, he keeps playing like that and he’s at least a 2nd All ACC guy this season)

C 6th SR Old man Ryan (I see a stronger version of James. Ryan is very smart, he has been in this system since Mario arrived an he should know it better than anyone. He will be very solid)

RG SO Buchanan (Mirabal loves this kid, there is no doubt in my mind that he can be at least as good as Coop was as a true sophomore)

RT McCoy (multi year starter and former high school TE. He has displayed that he has the play strength by his play inside at guard, now going against smaller and weaker DEs I think he actually takes a big step. What he struggled with was stunts and loops crossing his face, he won’t have to deal with that anymore at RT. Should pay off big for him)

The talent is there to be a top 10 offensive line again. Just like in 2023 when CiCi was a true freshman.

S&C gotta do whatever possible to have him work on his ankle flexibility/strength. Dude looks like he's going to have the length and strength. If he's got the bend to go with it, I'm extremely confident in JT getting his technique down by the end of the year and for the following season...

He was a problem and making noise all off season last year.. He was in line to get major PT before the injury.. there are a ton of quotes from all the leaders off the team before he got injured, he was one of the highlights of that class.. I think sky is limit for him..

Thornton is playing boundary/free Safety...
Fitzgerald is at Nickel. Fitz will also slide back to FS on passing downs. Fitz wants to bulk up a little more to prepare for the role. (think he said he's at 192)

The Nickels and Safeties are trained to be interchangeable...so Thornton will play some Nickel as well.

JJ is super talented and got plenty of praise during practice, but he ain't unseating Thornton. Thornton has the violence and experience that Hetherman covets. He's twitchier than Thomas and better in coverage (IMO). He made a phenomenal play on Mali on a wheel route during team period. (on Tuesday) Strapped him up.

Not hyperbole...
But I think we might have the best CB duo in the country. OJ has developed into a grown a$s man. He's every bit of 6'1" and ripped/jacked. And Lucas, who was kinda raw previously, is now becoming a much better technician. His press coverage on Tuesday was unreal. He's so big, long and fast that he's **** near impossible to run away from. He dominated his 1-on-1 periods. The DB coaches are doing a great job with these kids. There's some other talent in the CB room, but from a technique and confidence standpoint I think it falls off after OJ/XL. You can tell who's been here a minute and who's fresh outta high school.

Yall are gonna love Milan and Wingo.
Milan's catch radius is silly, and he's not awkward for a kid his size.
Wingo is twitchy and fast for his size.
The CB's even said "Wingo be rollin!" 🤣

Pruitt has to see the field significantly this season. He's too long and athletic not to. He looked great versus the RB's in 1-on-1's.
appreciate the knowledge coach, thank you.
