Not looking good for butch.

### After reviewing circumstances that led to Butch Davis’ dismissal at North Carolina, some inside UM have concerns, even though Davis wasn’t implicated by the NCAA.

Though one person on UM’s advisory search committee (Jonathan Vilma) was recruited by Davis, played for him and likes him, the committee excluded a couple of deep-pocketed donors/Board of Trustee members who strongly support Davis.

Davis remains a fallback option; one UM person said athletic director Blake James knows he has Davis if all else fails.

### We reported last week that the UM administration is under the impression that Texas coach Charlie Strong has interest in the Miami job, and Fox’s Bruce Feldman reported Tuesday that Strong (37-15 at Louisville but just 10-13 at Texas) is indeed interested.

An associate of James said UM prefers to hire someone who has had success as a head coach in college (even better if it’s at a major program) or with an NFL team.

Strong, Georgia’s Mark Richt and Greg Schiano would qualify, as would others whose names are swirling in coaching rumors, such as Arizona’s Rich Rodriguez, Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen or North Carolina’s Larry Fedora. And none of us should be surprised if the search firm hired uncovers a successful active coach that nobody has mentioned, but who has interest in coming here.

UM also is expected to consider Mario Cristobal and Rob Chudzinski because of UM ties and other strengths they bring to the table. Colts coach Chuck Pagano would hold some appeal to UM, but he might not be available until January, long after the search concludes.

Charlie Strong, Mark Richt, and Greg Schiano would all be great fits. I would be happy with either one of them.

Paul and Miller do not need to be on the committee because they have already decided who is being hired. The committee is to placate the former players , give a couple women something to do, and make Blake feel important. The money wants Butch and money gets what is wants. I even think President Frenk wants Butch. His letter after the Duke crybaby crap is something I have never seen -- a UM President defending the football team about anything. I think the old Mexican might want to kick a little butt and who better than Butch. Maybe I am reading way to much into it but it was first time I ever saw it. I almost smashed Foote in the mouth back in the day because all he ever did was attack the team.

I just read that again. It's obvious that UM is throwing a smoke screen out there and toying with people. UM is hiring Butch, but wants to troll some people before they make Butch official. This is similar to a silent commitment from a recruit, if you will.

Strong is about to get fired for failing at UT. Failing at UT is almost as bad as failing at THE U-- there is no excuse for it.

Mark is old Cane and nice guy but if we what a guy to lose that one game he must win, then Butch is better choice -- 100 times the recruiter Mark is.

Greg, well what can I say-- he coached at PSU -- I never, ever want another coach who has even driven by PSU. Al forever tainted that pool.

I don't think it's a smoke screen. They don't want to bring butch back. I knew they were going to "check" on the unc stuff and then say they had concerns.

$$$$ talks and BS walks. Peace it brother.

It's Butch. $ talks and I would bet the house Flake has no bearing on this. If the big $ wants Butch, they get him. Let Flake try some dumb ish and let the big dogs threaten their monetary contributions. Money wins, especially at Miami.

I read it 3 times and felt compelled to eat a homeless guy's face.

I refuse to believe that this inept athletic department will hire the right guy(Butch)

Actually, the more I read and the longer this goes, the less I think it's Butch. Good news is, the less I think it's Mario too...

It's worse than failing at Miami. You literally have every built in advantage a college coach could want. Miami is lacking in several of those areas. People will be amazed if a coach can get this program back up on it's feet and competing for titles. Miami has one thing to offer at this point and it's the location of the school as it relates to recruiting. It' biggest selling point (to recruits) is gone. This is going to be a monumental task for whatever coach takes the job. How many coaches out there (worth taking) are really interested in working that hard at Miami? There are more negatives at Miami than just about any other big time program.

I'm getting that vibe too. I think it's going to be someone from "outside" of the program

That is one way to take it. However, IF they are going to bring Butch back, it means a turning back to winning and away from the Donna losing is better road. That means a return to the day of dominance -- virtually un-American in a Donna administration. They will need cover for that. Saying that "after an extensive search and consideration of many outstanding candidates it became apparent that one stood only as best able to return THE U to its rightful place in college football --- ladies and gents I give you the master of rebuilding, the great architect of recruiting, the Don of dominance, the man who gave THE U more millionaire alumni than any other, the one, the only Butch Davis ...... " "Hi everyone. I'm back. Nuf said."

I don't have your optimism, those in charge are ***** ups. Another bad hire and the rest of the Miami fans that are left will say see ya, not sure I can take much more of this BS. Butch or Herman, make it happen.
