Aside from SFE 5 with Duke, Tracy, Deon, and Malcolm, we have seen a vast majority of kids from this team leave south florida (lol the irony), and unfortunatellly for Canes fans there are now a considerable amount of them who have done really well. What is the deal here? There is some sort of rift because I was looking on their facebook page, and they rep everything south florida, but there seems to be no love for the U. Geno Smith, Bailey, Shazier, Bridgewater, Jojo Robinson, Lammons, Lane, and im sure the list goes on and on.

Anyone have insight on the situation or possible plan moving forward by UM to get more kids from there.

I'm not an expert but it seems more and more to be an AAU type of scam. Money funnel, street agent filter, etc.

I may just be too cynical though.

The Head Coach is a Gator....not sure what else to tell you. I know they take the kids on trips to visit some campuses etc while doing the 7 on 7 circuit.

this is overplayed. aside from this year, uf has not benefitted much from recruits on that team. as the op mentioned guys have gone to west virginia, clemson, uga, lousiville, ohio st., etc. miami has gotten more players from express than uf has over the past few years.

Agree. I don't think its about just UF. As I menionted previously, I think its game for street agents and boosters to contact and buy players. The Bull Gators now have one of their own as the coach now so I assume they expect a greater ROI.

To be fair, as this turns more into an AAU type system the outside influences become more and more impactful. To say that Goetz isn't more ameanable to allowing Gator influences in more than Canes is naive. Kids will go where they go, but it doesn't hurt to have the guy be a Gator. Also, I think in this particular year we had a really bad/angry apple in Quincy Wilson who is clearly a leader on the team who became very anti-UM.

We have a friend who lives down here and does nothing but steer kids their way. He's a staple at these things and that's EXACTLY what they are.

No place in the country has the raw talent and competitive nature of athletes as we do in south Florida. It's like a gold rush. Everyone wants to cash in. It's a chance for lowlifes to serve as the middlemen for the money and ensure the big guys get their fair share in exchange for some compensation. It's a ******* circus.

What are you talking about?

We just got Coley and Artie Burns from SFE. IIRC Jamal Carter was on it too but i'm not sure. So that's 2/3 from the SFE in the most recent class. And the year before we got Duke, Tracy, Bush, Waters, and Malcolm. Signing day for the current class is months away so its way too early to say how many we'll get from this current SFE team.

I don't understand...are we supposed to be taking the whole **** SFE team or something?

I'm asking a question. I think there is something going on there. The kids you mentioned coming to Miami from there are mostly dade kids who Im sure have deep family influences for the Canes. But the Broward kids from SFE seem to be gone, and its spreading into dade a bit, and to be quite honest I dont ******* like it

basically this. i won't say whether goetz is pushing players to uf or not, as a uf alum i'm sure he'd love to have the best players go there and talk them up any chance he gets. but outside of this year we haven't gotten much from that team for the most part and he's been the coach there for a while. so what explains the discrepancy? he suddenly started pushing guys that way this year? you don't think we could have used all those other studs that went to miami, west virginia, louisville, or wherever else?

i don't doubt he has some influence, but that hasn't helped uf before this year. i just think this year was a perfect storm with regards to certain recruits being good friends and deciding to team up (wilson).

Basically its a slippery slope. Not everything about it is corrupt, but there's no doubt there's shady **** that goes down.

We are in no position to play games so we have to pick and choose who we can safely go after. Not insinuating every player we have lost was dirty, just saying its a minefield for us at the moment.

I'm not calling UF out on this. Although as I referenced, if I was a Bull Gator booster, I would certainly expect a healthy return on my investment. But just pointing out the very nature of these types of programs, while they may have benign roots in showcasing young athletes and expanding collegiate opportunities, just like AAU - they eventually in whole or in part, become cattlecalls and breeding grounds for the street agents and hustlers.

But hey, its all in the game.

There's nothing up with sfe they help the kids more than they hurt them they take them all over the country to different campuses they'd never see good for them opens up their eyes to more than just south florida they make players think about playing time which is why so many go to different places

Someone link the Goetz ESPN article. It's pretty obvious that disingenuous people benefit from their relationships with young athletes.

Awesome. Please go start AAU teams in Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Tallahassee, Gainesville. I'm sure the local schools would absolutely love their local kids just "opening their eyes" to the possibilities. Totally normal that a bunch of middle-aged men devote their lives to this, nothing to see here.

i agree, they definitely seem to be heading that direction, particularly in places like texas. florida will follow if they aren't already there.
